The Crybaby Mistress GL - Chapter 62
The fact that Chen Zheng wanted to talk was enough to put Xu Fangting in an excellent mood. When the three of them gathered for dinner that evening, she could not resist bringing it up with a hint of pride.
“Your father finally gave in,” she said, trying to sound casual as if she were merely making conversation. “He told me to go talk to him in a few days. He sent the message himself.”
Luo Jing did not comment, but seeing Xu Fangting so happy, she smiled slightly. That endearing expression made her even more charming. Since Xu Fangting was in a good mood, she ended up placing a few extra pieces of meat on Luo Jing’s plate without even noticing.
However, Chen Xin was far less optimistic. She had seen Chen Zheng several times recently, and he had not once mentioned Xu Fangting. It was possible he did not bring her up because he did not want to show his true intentions, but lately, he had been constantly in the company of Liu Ruoya. Chen Xin had encountered them several times, where Liu Ruoya was always seated comfortably in Chen Zheng’s car, and neither of them made any effort to conceal their closeness.
Just days ago, they had been seen together in public. Now, suddenly, he wanted to make peace? That seemed unlikely to Chen Xin.
“Mom, I don’t want to kill your buzz, but I really don’t think Dad is trying to make amends,” Chen Xin said carefully. She did not mention seeing Liu Ruoya with him. That would only upset her mother, and those two were not worth the heartache.
Xu Fangting replied, “What else could it be? He reached out himself and asked me to come see him.”
Chen Zheng had always been proud. It was rare for him to send a message personally. If not to bring her home, what other reason would he have?
“Well,” Chen Xin replied, her brow furrowed in thought, “I think he might be reaching out because of Weiguo. Lately, he has been coming to me about Weiguo’s promotion. Maybe now he is trying a different approach. You know how he is with decisions. Once he makes up his mind, no one can talk him out of it.”
If Chen Zheng wanted something, he would not accept any objections. Chen Xin believed that if her mother went to see him, it would certainly involve that issue.
Unfortunately, Xu Fangting did not believe her. She had been married to Chen Zheng for thirty years. While their relationship was never overly affectionate, they had still spent countless days and nights together. She had never been away from him for this long. Would he really feel nothing at all? She refused to believe their marriage had failed so completely.
Chen Xin did not try to stop her. Her parents were adults, and she did not want to interfere too much. She kept her opinions to herself until she returned to her room, where she complained about it to Luo Jing.
Luo Jing, however, seemed distracted. She kept her head down, focused on her phone.
Chen Xin felt neglected and quickly climbed into bed, reaching toward Luo Jing’s waist with playful mischief. Just as she was about to tickle her, Luo Jing turned over with her phone still in hand. Her normally bright eyes now carried a look of quiet scrutiny.
Chen Xin paused. Why did it suddenly feel like she was about to be interrogated?
Luo Jing asked seriously, “Did you sneak off to visit my mom today?”
Her tone was stern. Chen Xin glanced at Luo Jing’s phone screen. She was obviously chatting with someone, and it was not hard to guess who. It had to be Luo Nan, the second sister. That woman had reported her already, and Chen Xin had not even had time to come up with a good excuse.
Luo Jing blinked her big eyes and said, “Miss Chen needs to tell the truth.”
With the ultimatum in place, Chen Xin had no choice but to come clean. “I just wanted your mom to think better of me. So I went to visit her today without asking. Are you mad?”
Luo Jing pouted slightly, clearly considering whether she should be angry.
Before she could decide, Chen Xin pulled her into an embrace. “Don’t be mad. Your mom looked great today. I think she’s going to recover very soon. Once she’s better, we’ll buy her a big house and hire a team of people to serve her five meals a day. She’ll live a long, healthy life with nothing to worry about.”
Luo Jing laughed at the ridiculous exaggeration and gave Chen Xin a playful shove, though she did not try to move away.
“Once Mom recovers, she’s definitely going back to the countryside. She worries about her farmland all the time,” Luo Jing said. She knew her mother well. A single day without tending her crops made her restless. Even now, in her hospital room, she had a small potted plant by her bedside just to stay occupied.
If they really did move her into a mansion and pampered her constantly, she would probably run away in the middle of the night and flee back to the countryside.
The image was so vivid that Luo Jing burst out laughing. In her mind, her mother already looked lively again, and there was no way she could stay angry at Chen Xin.
“I’ll let it slide this time, but don’t do it again,” Luo Jing said. She understood Chen Xin’s intentions. She knew Chen Xin wanted to get along with her mother, and that made it hard to stay upset.
“I’m not against you seeing my mom,” she continued. “But her health is just starting to improve. She should avoid too much emotional stimulation.”
Chen Xin sighed softly. Luo Jing was always so easy to calm down. “I promise I won’t do anything to upset her. I’ll just say we’re ordinary friends and that I was passing by. If you’re worried, I won’t visit next time.”
She sounded so pitiful that Luo Jing could not help but smile. Snuggling closer, she said, “It’s not that you can’t visit. Next time, we’ll go together. I’ll introduce you to my mom as a friend.”
Then she added seriously, “But you can’t act weird. Be natural. Last time, you were so eager that my second sister noticed.”
Chen Xin remembered Luo Jing’s mysterious second sister and grinned mischievously. “Do you know what I saw today, Jing Jing?”
Luo Jing propped herself up on one arm. “What did you see?”
Chen Xin shared every detail about what had happened, including her unexpected encounter with Wu Mohua. Luo Jing frowned as she listened. “That Miss Wu? My eldest sister is still working for her?”
“I heard she’s about to be promoted to full-time,” Chen Xin said. She still could not figure it out. Luo Han always seemed so ordinary. What on earth did Wu Mohua see in her? That woman’s taste was certainly strange.
A simple employer-employee relationship? Chen Xin did not believe it. Who gives luxury fur coats to their employee’s family members and delivers them in person?
She lit an imaginary incense stick for the seemingly naïve and awkward Luo Han.
But did this mean Wu Mohua ranked above her now? And what about Lu Heyun? Were both of them going to be her sisters-in-law someday?
Tsk.
“What’s wrong?” Luo Jing tilted her head up from Chen Xin’s arms.
Chen Xin ruffled Luo Jing’s hair and sighed. “Nothing really. I just thought of something annoying. But what about you? Aren’t you worried about your second sister?”
“Not at all. She can handle herself,” Luo Jing said confidently as she lay back down. “If she ever needs help, she’ll ask me. She knows what she’s doing.”
“You trust her that much?”
Chen Xin’s hands were already wandering. Luo Jing had been far too obedient tonight, and it made her heart flutter, even though she had work in the morning.
Luo Jing nodded and softly murmured her agreement as she relaxed back into Chen Xin’s arms, while a hand quietly slipped beneath her pajamas and began to explore the softness of her skin.
