Chen Xin and Wu Mohua were both driven out by Luo Nan. With her arms crossed in front of her chest, Luo Nan stood confidently in a casual T-shirt and shorts. She had her hair down, wore thick glasses, and on her feet were simple flip-flops. Yet she alone blocked the path of two women with commanding presences.

Wu Mohua had clearly dressed up for the visit. She wore an elegant white suit with subtle dark stripes, creating a clean look that was not overly aggressive. Chen Xin had gone to even greater lengths to make a good impression on her future mother-in-law. She had put in serious effort, even buying a new lipstick just for today.

Despite all their preparation, it was useless if they could not get through the door. Luo Nan, their future sister-in-law, seemed to hold no fondness for either of them. She did not even let them into the hospital room.

However, she had happily accepted the gifts they brought. Everything remained inside the room. Just moments ago, she had stepped away briefly to rinse some fruit. She now stood at the doorway casually biting into a red, fragrant apple, which was most likely one of the fruits Wu Mohua had brought.

“Miss Luo, please don’t misunderstand. I was just passing by and thought I would visit Auntie. I didn’t mean anything else,” Chen Xin said politely.

Wu Mohua gave a faint smile tinged with awkwardness. “I came because Luo Han asked me to check on Auntie. She has been busy with work and remains very concerned.”

Her tone was measured and polite, as if she truly cared about relieving Luo Han’s burden. However, it was Wu Mohua who had given Luo Han all that work. If she genuinely cared, would it not make more sense to reduce Luo Han’s workload?

Most people might keep such doubts to themselves, not wanting to cause tension. But Luo Nan had a direct personality and did not hesitate.

“She’s busy with work because of you. My sister even said you made her quit her old job at the restaurant just so she could report to your office every day,” Luo Nan said, casting a sharp glance without any hesitation.

Wu Mohua froze for a moment, clearly unprepared for such bluntness. For once, she had no smooth response and stood there, smiling awkwardly.

Unable to hold back, Chen Xin let out a small laugh.

The Luo sisters were clearly no ordinary people. The fact that one of them could silence someone as polished as Wu Mohua made the entire hospital trip worthwhile.

Luo Nan turned her attention back to them. “There’s no point in laughing. What are you two doing here today? We already agreed that Mom can’t know about this yet. It would be too much for her to handle and could worsen her condition. Please leave. Do not visit again without notice.”

Chen Xin still tried to make her case. “At least let me say goodbye to Auntie.”

Just then, a voice called out from nearby.

“Luo Nan!”

A woman rushed over, not caring that others were present. She scolded Luo Nan immediately. “Why didn’t you come yesterday? I sent you an invitation!”

Chen Xin and Wu Mohua exchanged glances. Was this not Lu Heyun, who had just held a birthday banquet the day before? Why was she here? And how did she know Luo Nan?

Luo Nan’s expression turned visibly troubled. Her face clearly showed that this was someone she did not want to see.

“Lu Heyun, I thought I already made myself clear,” Luo Nan said.

Lu Heyun sounded frustrated. “What exactly did you make clear? You think you can dismiss me with a few words?”

Luo Nan responded calmly. “Dismiss you? We agreed it was a one-night stand. Please don’t think that sleeping together a few times gives you the right to control me. I have my own life. I am not interested in playing dating games with you.”

“Dating games?” Lu Heyun’s voice rose in pitch. From the way things were heading, she looked about ready to fight.

Luo Nan’s frown deepened. “Let’s talk outside.”

If their conversation grew louder, it would disturb her mother’s rest. Without waiting for a reply, she pulled Lu Heyun toward the hospital entrance. A few steps away, she turned back and told the others, “You should leave too.”

Chen Xin and Wu Mohua stood there in silence, watching the pair walk off in a heated exchange. Both were at a loss for words. Between Chen Xin from the powerful Chen family, Wu Mohua with influence in both legal and underground circles, and Lu Heyun from a logistics empire, it seemed all the business elites had gathered in one place.

Even these two experienced women were momentarily stunned.

Wu Mohua was the first to recover. She smiled lightly and turned to Chen Xin. “Do you have time later? Maybe we could grab a drink. Or share a meal.”

Chen Xin glanced at her, then checked the time. It was already five in the afternoon. A drink and a meal would stretch past nine. Wu Mohua had been irritating enough in the morning. The evening version would likely be even worse.

“No, thank you,” Chen Xin raised her hand to refuse. She had absolutely no desire to interact with Wu Mohua at night.

Wu Mohua kept her gentle smile. “Don’t be like that. I’m doing much better now. Are you sure you don’t want to join me? It has been a long time.”

“No.”

Chen Xin was not willing to take that risk. She had known Wu Mohua since childhood. Once night fell, Wu Mohua’s condition always took a turn. However, she did offer a compromise. “Let’s meet for lunch the day after tomorrow. Dinner is out of the question. Now go home.”

“Alright,” Wu Mohua did not press further. The two parted and went their separate ways.

As for how Lu Heyun and Luo Nan ended up entangled, there was no time to dig into the details. But now it was clear why Lu Heyun had been in such a sour mood during her party. Even when elders showed up, her smile looked forced. Her eyes kept flicking toward the door. It seemed she had been waiting for someone.

Chen Xin felt like she had stumbled upon some serious gossip. She could not wait to get home and share it with Luo Jing.

Luo Jing had already returned home. Ever since the incident with the photo, she had returned to her usual self. She and Xu Fangting often spent time together watching dramas or doing other small things. Xu Fangting had recently shown interest in the kimchi dishes from a Korean drama she was watching. She hinted a few times that she wanted to try them.

Taking the hint, Luo Jing went out and bought kimchi. She found recipes online for Korean dishes like seafood pancakes, seaweed rice rolls, and spicy rice cakes. She planned to prepare a full Korean meal to delight Xu Fangting.

Xu Fangting was excited even before tasting the food. She abandoned the television and joined Luo Jing in the kitchen. Though she was no master chef, Xu Fangting could cook decently. Unlike Chen Xin, whose cooking attempts often ended in disasters, Xu Fangting genuinely helped. The two worked well together and enjoyed each other’s company.

At that moment, Xu Fangting’s phone rang. Luo Jing quickly stepped in to take over her current task and nodded. “Auntie, I’ve got this. You can take the call.”

Xu Fangting dried her hands and stepped out. She assumed it was one of her close friends calling with another invitation. But when she saw the name on the screen, she was surprised. It was her husband.

Xu Fangting felt a sense of triumph. She smiled to herself, thinking, So I win this round.

Apparently, Chen Zheng could not hold out any longer and had finally called to make peace.
