After Chen Xin left, everyone continued to talk about what had happened. No one had expected Luo Jing, who always seemed so quiet and reserved, to have a mature and wealthy partner. She had brought her lunch and even kissed her in front of everyone. The girls were filled with envy and admiration, wishing they could have such a sweet and charming lover of their own.

The atmosphere in the class changed completely. Students who had once ignored Luo Jing now surrounded her, asking endless questions about her relationship. Luo Jing had never been one to chat much with others, but once people started talking to her, they discovered a gentle and pleasant presence that made her easy to get along with. In time, the group became genuinely friendly with her.

Lu Ting sat off to the side, his eyes often drifting toward Luo Jing. His expression was conflicted. He felt deeply ashamed for not stepping in to defend her during the days she had been mistreated. He wanted to speak with her, but Luo Jing was now surrounded by classmates. Apologizing in front of everyone made him feel embarrassed.

He also had feelings for Luo Jing. It had never occurred to him that she might already be in a relationship. He had even seen her partner before.

At the time, he had not given it much thought. Now that he remembered, he realized that Chen Xin’s smile during their encounter had felt forced, like she was pretending to be friendly. Lu Ting wanted to punch himself. He had assumed the woman was Luo Jing’s older sister, but she was actually his romantic rival.

She was not just a rival. She was one from a completely different league, someone who did not even see him as competition.

Lu Ting kept watching Luo Jing, hoping she would notice and give him an excuse to speak to her privately.

Luo Jing, however, pretended not to see him. She continued talking with the other girls until class began. The female classmates were warm and enthusiastic. They even exchanged contact information with her. Unlike Li Cheng, their idea of fun was inviting Luo Jing to a cake shop.

Li Cheng arrived late and missed everything that had happened during lunch. She strolled in with a few of her usual rowdy friends. By then, class had already started. She was surprised to see someone sitting next to Luo Jing. Over the past several days, everyone had kept their distance from Luo Jing, even during lessons. It was strange that someone had taken the seat beside her.

She did not have time to think about it. The teacher, clearly displeased with her tardiness, snapped at her to sit down immediately.

After school, Li Cheng, as usual, tried to pick on Luo Jing. She noticed that Luo Jing was wearing a particularly stylish jacket and felt a rush of jealousy. Luo Jing had been silent and non-confrontational lately, which only encouraged Li Cheng to behave worse. She decided to squeeze some money out of her. If Luo Jing ran out, she could just go ask her sugar mommy for more.

She walked over as Luo Jing packed her bag. “Luo Jing, come hang out with us.”

Luo Jing looked uncomfortable the moment she saw her. Her lips pressed together and the corners of her mouth turned downward. Her whole face showed how unwilling she was. “No, thank you.”

“Tch, fine, whatever. You’ve got money, right?” Li Cheng’s eyes roamed greedily over the expensive-looking jacket. “That jacket must have cost a lot. You must be rich. Lend me some.”

Her tone was not a request. She spoke as if Luo Jing’s money belonged to her already. Then she raised her voice on purpose. “It’s not a big deal. You just need to spread your legs again tonight and you’ll get more anyway.”

Luo Jing’s face darkened with shame and anger. When she saw Li Cheng reach for her bag, she quickly pulled it into her arms. “No!”

Li Cheng let out a snide laugh. “What’s wrong with giving me a little? A girl like you who sells herself shouldn’t be so stingy, especially not when wearing clothes that nice.”

There was no point arguing with her. Luo Jing hated confrontation and just wanted to leave, but Li Cheng stood in her way. “I… I want to go home.”

Li Cheng and her group moved as if they were about to stop her again. Before they could act, a few other students stepped in.

“Li Cheng, that’s enough. She said she wants to go home. Why are you blocking her?”

The girls who had been chatting with Luo Jing earlier came to stand up for her. Li Cheng was caught off guard. She had not expected anyone to speak on Luo Jing’s behalf.

“What are you doing?” she snapped angrily. “She’s just some cheap girl who sleeps around. You really want to be friends with someone like that?”

Her words were cruel. The girls who had come to defend Luo Jing were clearly upset.

“Stop making things up. Luo Jing is not like that at all. The person in the photo is her girlfriend. She even came to school today and treated all of us to lunch. She was stunning. Everything you’ve been saying is completely wrong.”

The others all agreed. Li Cheng had no idea who they were talking about. When she noticed that Luo Jing now had a crowd of people around her, while she herself was outnumbered, her temper rose sharply.

“What does it have to do with any of you?” she shouted. Then she stepped forward to shove someone.

The moment she moved, someone grabbed her wrist. She turned and saw Lu Ting holding onto her arm, his brow furrowed. “Stop it. That’s enough.”

Li Cheng’s face twisted in frustration. She liked Lu Ting, but he had never paid her any attention. Now, he was stepping in for Luo Jing.

She yanked her arm away forcefully and turned to leave. Just before she walked out, she shot Luo Jing a vicious glare.

Luo Jing watched her go. She lowered her head and quickly murmured a quiet thank-you to Lu Ting before walking out of the classroom herself. Lu Ting stared at her retreating back. She did not look back or wait for him. A bitter smile appeared on his face.

It seemed his chances of pursuing Luo Jing had disappeared completely.

Luo Jing was not someone who held grudges. However, after Lu Ting had joined in isolating her, she no longer had any thoughts of growing closer to him.

After class, Chen Xin came to pick up Luo Jing again. This time, she brought along several of Luo Jing’s classmates and walked with them to the station. The group chatted and laughed along the way. The cheerful energy helped relax Luo Jing’s tense expression. Chen Xin could tell that Luo Jing had let go of the weight she had been carrying.

Once the two of them were alone in the car, Chen Xin finally asked her, “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Luo Jing had been basking in the joy of making new friends. Chen Xin’s sudden question caught her off guard. When she turned to look, she saw that Chen Xin’s expression was nothing like the one she had worn earlier while laughing with the other girls. Only then did Luo Jing remember that she had completely forgotten to mention the bullying.

Chen Xin was clearly upset. Luo Jing had been mistreated under her watch. How could this silly girl stay silent and act like nothing was wrong, spending her days chatting happily while keeping everything about school hidden? The more Chen Xin thought about it, the heavier her mood became. Her expression turned colder.

“Because… I didn’t want you to worry about me,” Luo Jing replied in a soft and aggrieved voice. She actually loved when Chen Xin came to defend her. But Chen Xin was always so busy, and Luo Jing had not wanted to cause her more trouble. Now Chen Xin was angry with her.

Looking at Luo Jing’s pitiful little face, Chen Xin felt helpless. She had intended to scold her, but seeing that expression made it impossible. Her tone had not even been that stern yet, and already she was losing the will to say more.

Chen Xin said, “Even so, you should not keep everything from me.”

“I understand. From now on, I will tell you everything,” Luo Jing replied quickly. She reached out and playfully poked Chen Xin’s arm. “Don’t be mad. I was so happy you came to see me today. Okay?”

Her soft voice and rising tone made Chen Xin feel as though her heart had melted. The coldness in her expression disappeared immediately.

“You are not allowed to hide anything from me ever again. Nothing at all.”

“I promise,” Luo Jing answered right away. “As long as you are not angry anymore. I admit I was wrong. Tonight, I will… make it up to you.”

As she spoke, she lightly licked her rosy lips. That innocent face now carried a faint hint of seduction. Chen Xin’s hands on the steering wheel trembled slightly.

“You better keep your word,” Chen Xin muttered. At that moment, she wished she could fast forward through the evening and jump straight into the night.
