The Crybaby Mistress GL - Chapter 45
Once the awkward lunch concluded, the three went their separate ways. Xu Fangting headed off to shop for clothes, as she had left in a rush and brought very few belongings with her.
Luo Jing and Chen Xin also got into the car. A quiet silence hung between them for a time. As Chen Xin started the engine, she asked, “Are you really sure about this? My mom is not an easy person to deal with.”
She remained uncertain about the idea of Luo Jing living with Xu Fangting. The whole arrangement felt overly ambitious. While she had agreed that they would face difficulties together, she had not expected Luo Jing to act with such boldness. Chen Xin worried that Luo Jing might eventually feel overwhelmed and decide to leave.
Luo Jing, however, did not seem concerned at all. “It is alright. I have lived with others before. Besides, the apartment is spacious. I will still have my own room.”
Hearing her speak so lightly about it, Chen Xin began to wonder if Luo Jing viewed the situation as something similar to living in a university dormitory. She was unsure whether to find it endearing or troubling.
Luo Jing turned to Chen Xin with bright, hopeful eyes. “So, where are we going now?”
The day before, they had said that if there was any free time, they would go out and enjoy themselves. At the moment, it seemed like the perfect chance.
Chen Xin felt a soft flutter in her chest at Luo Jing’s enthusiasm. “Would you like to go shopping? Or have afternoon tea? Or is there somewhere special you would prefer?”
Just then, Luo Jing’s phone chimed. “Let me think,” she said while picking it up to check the message.
Her expression shifted slightly. “Mom is being transferred to a private room? Why?”
Without delay, she called her second sister, the one who had sent the message. Her sister explained that she had been caring for their mother at the hospital when a nurse suddenly informed her that the patient was to be moved to a private room. She had tried to clarify that there must be some mistake. If it was indeed a misunderstanding, moving back and forth would only be harmful to their mother. She had decided to delay the transfer and notify her sisters first.
Luo Jing turned to Chen Xin with concern in her eyes. “I need to go to the hospital. Something strange is going on with my mom’s situation. My second sister is there alone. I should go and help.”
Their earlier plans were clearly canceled, but Chen Xin did not seem discouraged. Instead, she looked a little anxious. “Would it be alright if I came along too?”
Luo Jing hesitated for a moment. “My mom is still ill and might not be ready to meet someone new. For now, let us just say we are regular friends.”
Chen Xin nodded with a smile. “In that case, let us pick up a fruit basket first.”
Since it was her first time meeting Luo Jing’s family, Chen Xin chose the biggest fruit basket in the store. It was so full of high-end fruits that they had to wrap it in layers of plastic film to prevent anything from falling out during transport.
The two of them carried the large basket and quickly made their way to the general ward. Luo Jing’s second sister, Luo Nan, was sitting by their mother’s bed, alert as if guarding against medical staff who might take her mother away. When she saw Luo Jing arrive, she finally appeared to relax.
“Who is this?” Luo Nan asked, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose. Her gaze fell on the well-dressed woman beside Luo Jing. Their synchronized entrance made it obvious that they had come together.
“Oh… she’s a friend. We had lunch together, and she kindly offered to drive me here,” Luo Jing explained before turning to introduce them. “This is my second sister, Luo Nan.”
Chen Xin offered the fruit basket and a courteous smile. “Hello. I came by without notice. Please accept this small gift. I hope Auntie recovers soon.”
The fruit basket was overly generous, but Luo Nan paid it little mind. Her attention was on more urgent matters.
“Do you know what is going on?” she asked. “I have confirmed it. Mom really is being transferred to a private room, and the hospital bill has already been prepaid.”
Luo Jing instinctively looked at Chen Xin. Chen Xin quickly shook her head. She had thought about upgrading the hospital room earlier, but Luo Jing had told her not to. She had followed that request and taken no action.
Luo Nan furrowed her brows and murmured, “So it was not that guy. Then who made the arrangements?”
At that moment, Luo Han also received the news. She was on her way and called ahead. Luo Nan answered the call.
Although Luo Jing could not hear the conversation, she saw her second sister cross her arms and take on a serious expression. Behind the lenses of her glasses, her eyes narrowed slightly. “Alright. I will arrange the move. You can explain when you get here.”
Once she hung up, she turned to Luo Jing. “It looks like this is our eldest sister’s doing. Let us ask the nurses to help with the transfer.”
She then walked over to Mrs. Luo and gently said, “Mom, we are going to move you to a better room.”
Their mother was half-awake, her mind foggy from illness. However, any time something changed, her daughters made sure to explain it to her gently.
Soon after, Mrs. Luo was transferred to the private ward. The new room was significantly more comfortable. It was a single room, tastefully decorated to feel warm and welcoming. It resembled a cozy hotel room more than a hospital ward. Despite its appearance, the space was equipped with full medical facilities. There was even a small bed for family members to rest.
Once their mother was settled, Luo Nan and Luo Jing returned to the original ward to pack up her belongings. There were not many items, so one trip was enough to move everything. Chen Xin assisted as well. She was eager to make a good impression and insisted on helping even while wearing high heels.
As they finished arranging the new room, Luo Han finally arrived. She appeared somewhat uneasy. Luo Nan simply said they would talk later and told her to go greet their mother. Since Mrs. Luo was awake, they all gathered around to update her on recent events.
Naturally, they only shared good news. Older people could not withstand emotional strain.
Mrs. Luo sat up in bed as her daughters took turns speaking. Luo Han told her she had taken on a new part-time job with decent income. Luo Nan shared that she would be receiving a substantial year-end bonus. Luo Jing mentioned that she had started working too but had not let it interfere with her studies. The cheerful updates made Mrs. Luo smile with relief. Her eyes turned toward Chen Xin.
“Who is this young lady?”
Luo Jing gave her usual explanation. “She is a friend.”
Luo Nan, however, narrowed her eyes. Something in her expression hinted that she had noticed something unusual. Behind her glasses, her gaze grew more focused.
Chen Xin stepped forward again, carrying the fruit basket. “Hello, Auntie. You can call me Chen Xin. I brought this little gift. I believe you will recover soon.”
Her calm demeanor and graceful manner did not match that of a mere friend. Even Luo Han began to suspect something. But Mrs. Luo simply smiled in satisfaction, unaware of any underlying tension. After some more chatting, she began to feel tired and lay down to rest.
Luo Nan looked around the room and pointed decisively. “You. You. And you. Come outside with me.”
She even pointed at Chen Xin, causing her to freeze briefly. As everyone else left the room, Chen Xin had no choice but to follow.
Luo Nan chose to address the smaller issue first before turning to larger concerns. She looked directly at Chen Xin and Luo Jing, who were standing together, and asked bluntly, “How long have you two been together?”
Luo Jing opened her mouth, visibly startled. Her expression said it all.
Chen Xin could not even attempt to create a cover story. She still had not figured out her second sister’s personality and decided it was best to stay silent.
Luo Nan did not give up. She turned to her sister again. “Luo Jing. Answer me.”
Luo Jing had always struggled to resist family pressure. After a few awkward stammers, she finally replied, “It has been a few months.”
Luo Han’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You… you are dating a woman?”
