The Crybaby Mistress GL - Chapter 42
Luo Jing and Chen Xin did not have time to worry about the broken door they had just damaged. They hurriedly changed their clothes and rushed out of the house. Chen Xin drove the car herself. The trip from City B was quite far, but before they departed, Chen Xin made sure to send a message to Xu Fangting.
Xu Fangting was also on her way to fulfill her task. When she saw the message from Chen Xin, she could not help but feel disheartened. Everything had already been finalized, and there was no room for last-minute changes. All she could do was reply with a simple message, “Give my regards to Sister on my behalf.”
Chen Zheng originally had a younger brother named Chen Quan. Sadly, due to poor health, he had passed away a few years ago. He left behind a young wife, Liu Ruoya, and a son named Chen Weiguo. The two of them continued to live in a villa in City A. Liu Ruoya was still quite young and not much older than her son. She knew how to present herself well. Even though she was approaching forty, she still appeared to be in her twenties. Her figure was well maintained, and her long, straight hair framed her small face elegantly.
Chen Zheng had always been fond of his only nephew. After Chen Quan passed away, he took care of every matter, big or small. If it had not been for the fact that Chen Quan had only one son, Chen Zheng would have adopted him as his own.
As soon as they entered the living room, they saw Chen An in Chen Weiguo’s arms. Liu Ruoya was sitting on a nearby sofa. Although Chen Zheng had mentioned that she was unwell, Xu Fangting did not notice anything out of the ordinary. Liu Ruoya’s makeup remained flawless. Her delicate lips were lightly pressed together as she greeted them. “Brother, Sister-in-law.”
Xu Fangting could not tell if it was her imagination, but the way Liu Ruoya called out “Brother” sounded especially soft and cloying. It was as if she had finally found someone to rely on. Her large eyes shimmered with a watery glow. She was dressed exquisitely, like a porcelain doll.
“Ruoya, I heard you were not feeling well. What exactly is wrong?” Xu Fangting asked. Her brow furrowed slightly when she saw Liu Ruoya. She had never been good at this kind of coquettish behavior. Although the Chen family rarely discussed it, she had some knowledge of Liu Ruoya’s background. It was said that Chen Quan had met her at a banquet. Shortly after, he had divorced his original wife and married Liu Ruoya.
Calling her a socialite was a more polite way of describing her. Her origins were not respectable, but she had a talent for hiding her shortcomings. When Chen Quan was alive, he often brought her to social events, and she had never embarrassed him in public. However, what people said behind closed doors was another matter entirely.
Chen Quan’s original wife came from a prestigious background. Even after their divorce, Liu Ruoya found it difficult to gain acceptance in elite circles. These details were not the focus, but they lingered in the background.
With her delicate features, Liu Ruoya put on a pitiful expression and said, “Sister-in-law, I do not know why, but my whole body feels sore and weak…” As she spoke, her shoulders drooped as if all her strength had drained away.
“You feel that unwell, yet you still had time to do your makeup? You should be resting more,” Xu Fangting responded. She found Liu Ruoya’s claim difficult to believe. Her makeup was perfect, and her hair was sleek and smooth. Every woman knew that such a look required at least an hour to achieve.
Before Liu Ruoya could reply, Chen Zheng snapped, “What is wrong with wearing makeup? Do you expect her to look messy and unkempt?”
Liu Ruoya immediately bit her lower lip. “Sister-in-law, I only wanted to show a little respect. You do not come here often. Even if I am not feeling well, I should still put on some light makeup.”
She sounded as though she had been wronged. She was trying to appear well despite her discomfort and now was being criticized for it. However, both women in the room clearly knew that her makeup could not be described as light.
“That is enough. Has Chen An eaten breakfast yet?” Chen Zheng interrupted their conversation and reached out to take the nearly one-year-old child into his arms. His usually stern expression softened. “Let Grandpa hold you.”
Chen An was still learning to walk and often wobbled when he moved. However, he could already recognize people. Upon seeing Chen Zheng, he called out “Grandpa” in his babyish voice and waved his chubby hands toward the person he adored most.
Liu Ruoya leaned in, teasing Chen An’s little hand with her finger. “He ate this morning, but his appetite did not seem very good.”
Hearing this, Chen Zheng turned to Xu Fangting and said, “Hurry and make some fruit puree. Let our Chen An get his appetite back.”
This visit had clearly turned her into a cook. Xu Fangting took the fruit she had brought and walked into the kitchen. It was completely absurd. She did not believe for a second that Liu Ruoya would ever step into the kitchen when she felt unwell. There were plenty of maids in the house. Liu Ruoya claimed she felt weak, yet had no shame calling Xu Fangting over just to cook. How shameless could she be?
As Xu Fangting turned toward the kitchen, Liu Ruoya watched her with a troubled expression and said softly to Chen Zheng, “What should I do? I think Sister-in-law is upset. Should I go apologize to her?”
“Do not mind her. She is always so sharp-tongued,” Chen Zheng replied as he focused on playing with Chen An. The three of them then moved to the garden to enjoy the sunlight, leaving Xu Fangting alone to busy herself in the kitchen.
After making some apple puree, Xu Fangting looked around and saw no one. She wondered where everyone had gone. Then she noticed Chen Zheng’s phone. He had placed it on the coffee table when he picked up Chen An. She picked it up, intending to return it later. However, she accidentally pressed the unlock button, and the screen lit up.
She had not meant to look further, but her eyes caught sight of a new, unread message received just before they entered the house. The message read, “Why have you not arrived yet? I cannot wait to see you.”
Immediately, Xu Fangting sensed something was off. After making sure no one was nearby, she mustered the courage to swipe open her husband’s phone and check what was going on.
Messages between Chen Zheng and Liu Ruoya appeared on the screen. Xu Fangting could not believe what she was seeing. She had never made a habit of checking her husband’s phone, so Chen Zheng, feeling secure, had not deleted anything. The messages between them were filled with flirtation and suggestive language. Some were even downright obscene, exchanged in the dead of night.
This was his brother’s wife!
Even though she had not caught them in the act, the nausea rose in her chest. The thought that, while she had been peacefully sleeping, her husband had been fantasizing with his sister-in-law through such vile messages made her skin crawl.
She scrolled further and saw that the affair had begun shortly after Chen Quan’s death. There were even messages arranging to meet at hotels. Her hands trembled with anger. She took out her own phone and quickly snapped photos of the conversation. It became clear that this entire visit had been a charade. Liu Ruoya had been texting Chen Zheng for days, saying she missed him. The two of them had staged this whole scene right in front of her to satisfy their yearning.
The more she thought about it, the more furious and disgusted she became. She could not bear to stay another moment. Grabbing her bag, she stood up and stormed out. She did not even bother returning Chen Zheng’s phone to its original spot. She wanted him to know that he had been caught. Let him see how he would handle this.
When she got in the car, the driver looked surprised. Only Madam had come out, visibly upset and saying nothing as she got into the vehicle.
“Madam, are we going home?” the driver asked carefully.
Home? Xu Fangting could not bear the thought of returning to the Chen household she shared with Chen Zheng. The pain in her chest was suffocating. After thinking for a while, she gave her answer. “To Fushan Cemetery.”
At this hour, Chen Xin was probably still there paying her respects.
