The Crybaby Mistress GL - Chapter 34
“Luo Jing!” From across the teaching building, Lu Ting spotted the figure walking away and called out loudly.
Luo Jing turned around and saw Lu Ting jogging over toward her. He had a wide grin on his face, a notebook in hand, and was calling her name the entire way.
“This is the notebook you lent me before. I’m returning it to you,” Lu Ting said as he handed her the pink-covered notebook.
Since Luo Jing’s fall the last time, the two had started getting along quite well. It seemed more accurate to say that Lu Ting was particularly eager to become friends with her. He would often show up before and after class, finding various excuses to speak with her. His cheerful and sunny personality often brought a shy smile to Luo Jing’s face.
Previously, Lu Ting had mentioned that he had fallen asleep during class and missed taking notes, so Luo Jing had lent him hers. Today, he was here to return them.
“Your notes are really detailed,” Lu Ting said with a smile, revealing one side of a playful fang. He added, “Since we don’t have any more classes today, I’ll walk you home.”
Without waiting for a response, Lu Ting walked ahead as if refusing to give her the opportunity to decline. Still, Luo Jing called out to stop him. “You don’t need to walk me home. Someone is coming to pick me up.”
Lu Ting assumed it was probably a family member and looked a bit disappointed. He quickly adjusted his offer. “Then how about I walk you to the school gate?”
“Alright,” Luo Jing agreed. School had ended, and they would naturally be walking in the same direction. She had no real reason to refuse him. Still, something felt a little odd. “Where are your friends?”
Usually, Lu Ting was surrounded by a lively group of classmates, always laughing and chatting. Today, however, he appeared alone.
“Who knows where they wandered off to,” Lu Ting replied with a grin. “Aren’t you one of my friends too?”
He wiggled his eyebrows in a playful expression that made Luo Jing laugh. The two continued side by side, heading toward the school gate.
Meanwhile, Chen Xin had already arrived in her car. She had pushed some work onto Weiguo, thinking the young man needed more hands-on experience. Of course, this decision had nothing whatsoever to do with her desire to leave work early. Ahem.
As she sat in the car, Chen Xin didn’t want Luo Jing to feel awkward. Therefore, she always parked a little distance away from the school gate.
According to her calculations, Luo Jing should be coming out any moment now. Chen Xin thought about the recent tension between them and considered taking the girl out to dinner. Perhaps they could visit a hot spring afterward, or do something else relaxing.
Just as she was lost in thought, her phone rang. It was a call from Xu Fangting. Chen Xin answered the call, her attention partially on the conversation while her eyes remained steadily fixed on the school gate, determined not to miss the moment Luo Jing appeared.
Xu Fangting explained that she would not be able to attend the upcoming memorial ceremony. Her tone held a trace of resentment, but after a few days of cold silence with her husband, she had decided to compromise. “You’ll have to go alone this year. Or do you want to delay it by a week?”
Chen Xin paused before responding. “You’re not going?”
Xu Fangting sounded a little guilty. “You know how your father is. Once he decides something, it’s final. This time, Chen An really needs help. The timing just doesn’t work, so I plan to delay it.”
Though her tone softened, the message remained unchanged. After a moment of silence, Chen Xin replied, “Forget it. I’ll go alone this year. All of you focus on your responsibilities.”
She ended the call with a hint of frustration. Chen Xin did not expect her emotional reaction to change Xu Fangting’s mind, but she also found it impossible to keep speaking calmly.
Feeling sour, she looked up and saw Luo Jing walking out of the school gate in the distance. The two of them had already developed a tacit understanding. The moment Luo Jing lifted her head, her gaze went straight to the car’s direction.
Chen Xin rolled down the window and waved. Luo Jing quickened her pace to approach. However, a boy she had not noticed earlier followed behind with a bright smile on his face.
Luo Jing turned and offered him a soft smile, intending to say goodbye. Yet the boy insisted on walking her all the way to the car.
“Is that your sister?” Lu Ting leaned over and peeked through the car window. Inside sat a composed and elegant woman, and the car she drove looked even more luxurious than his father’s.
Chen Xin’s smile lingered on her lips, though it never reached her eyes. “Are you Luo Jing’s classmate?”
Luo Jing quickly got into the car and answered, “Yes, he’s in my class.”
Lu Ting immediately dropped his playful demeanor. He straightened his clothes, stood upright, and gave Chen Xin a respectful nod. “My name is Lu Ting. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
He looked exactly like a nervous young man meeting his girlfriend’s parent. Chen Xin’s smile deepened, and her fingers tightened slightly on the steering wheel. She nodded. “You seem to like our Jing Jing quite a bit.”
Lu Ting’s face flushed red at once. He did not know how to respond. Luo Jing quickly interjected. “Lu Ting, see you tomorrow at school. I have something to do with… Chen, my sister, so…”
Lu Ting finally took the hint and made a hasty goodbye.
Chen Xin silently rolled up the window. After they were on the road, she finally spoke. “I think you’re still too young to be dating.”
“Pfft!” Luo Jing could not help but laugh. She actually laughed in a situation like this.
During a red light, Chen Xin shot her a glare. “What’s so funny?”
Luo Jing’s face was still glowing with amusement. “Miss Chen, I’m already in university. My mom hasn’t said something like that to me since I was in middle school.”
She had been nervous at first, but Chen Xin’s tone earlier reminded her so vividly of her mother that she could not hold back her laughter.
The tense atmosphere quickly faded, and even Chen Xin could not maintain her stern expression. When the light turned green, she resumed driving. She did not mention where they were heading. Instead, she asked, “Do you have feelings for that boy named Lu?”
Her tone was unmistakably sour. The entire car seemed to fill with the scent of jealousy.
Luo Jing nearly choked on the thick scent of vinegar. She tried to suppress her laughter and replied, “We’re just friends. We only borrowed each other’s notes. That’s all.”
Chen Xin’s lips pressed into a tight line. Borrowing notes? She had never even borrowed notes from Luo Jing. Did that mean their relationship was closer than hers with Luo Jing? Unacceptable. “Then I want to borrow your notes too.”
“…”
Luo Jing glanced at her. Was Miss Chen acting like a child?
“These are just class notes. What do you need them for?”
“Just give them to me,” Chen Xin said, undeterred.
Luo Jing had no choice. She reached into her bag and retrieved the pink notebook, handing it over. “Fine. But you have to return it before next Wednesday.”
Chen Xin, curious about Luo Jing’s coursework, used the next red light to open the notebook. The handwriting inside was clearly Luo Jing’s, neat and organized with some parts framed and marked with stars. Each word had been written with obvious care.
Even her handwriting was adorable. Chen Xin cleared her throat, wondering if she was becoming a little obsessed. She turned another page, then froze.
“What is this? Did you draw it?”
Luo Jing leaned over to look. It was the last page from last week’s notes. At the very end, in a different-colored pen, someone had drawn a small heart.
“No… that wasn’t me,” Luo Jing said quickly. She had definitely not drawn that. Immediately, she thought of the most likely culprit.
Chen Xin’s voice turned cold. “And you still say it was just about borrowing notes?”
