The Crybaby Mistress GL - Chapter 29
Chen Xin had originally been waiting for Luo Jing at her apartment. She planned to watch some television while she waited. When she arrived, she had not intended to call. Her idea was to surprise Luo Jing, since they had not seen each other for several weeks. Even video calls had become infrequent. Chen Xin had to admit she really missed the little one.
Luo Jing was not a particularly lively young woman. When Chen Xin did not see her at home, she was a little surprised. She thought perhaps Luo Jing had gone out to buy daily necessities and would return shortly. Feeling relaxed, she settled in and imagined the surprised expression that might appear on Luo Jing’s face when she walked through the door.
From a little after five until eight o’clock, Chen Xin waited. Outside, night had completely fallen. Her irritation slowly began to rise. If Luo Jing had only gone to the supermarket, it should not have taken this long. Chen Xin wondered where she had gone and why she had left her waiting alone in the apartment.
Prompted by that frustration, Chen Xin took out her phone. On impulse, she checked Luo Jing’s spending records. As she scrolled through the transactions, her anger only grew.
It was not that she minded how Luo Jing used the money. What upset her was the fact that the transactions had taken place at a string of dubious entertainment venues. Some transactions were even made during the early hours of the morning. Clearly, while Chen Xin had been away, Luo Jing had started to go astray. Luo Jing had been going out to those kinds of places and staying until late at night, which was a situation that could not be allowed to continue.
The most recent charge had been just an hour earlier. It was another nightclub expense. Chen Xin felt her temples throb. Luo Jing was still out at this hour and had not returned home. Who could she possibly be out with?
Chen Xin immediately called her. When Luo Jing answered, there was no music or noisy background. The silence surprised Chen Xin but did not ease her anger. She asked in a cold voice, “Where are you?”
Luo Jing was stunned by her icy tone. After a moment of hesitation, she quietly explained where she was and what had happened. With a tone of apology, she said, “Miss Chen, I am really sorry. Can I call you tomorrow?” She had simply been too overwhelmed to keep track of their scheduled call.
Chen Xin did not respond right away. The silence made Luo Jing wonder if the call had disconnected. She said “hello” twice to check. Only then did Chen Xin speak. “I’m coming over.”
She ended the call immediately, without giving Luo Jing any chance to refuse.
Luo Jing stared at her phone, debating whether to call back and ask Chen Xin not to come. Just then, she noticed that Luo Han had slowly gotten out of bed. It seemed she intended to change out of her hospital gown. Luo Jing quickly moved to stop her.
“What are you doing? You should not be out of bed. Please lie down.”
Luo Han’s expression was full of anxiety. “My employer is coming. She did not take today off. I need to go back with her. I cannot let her wait.”
“You are already in the hospital. How could you even think about going back to work right now?” Luo Jing stepped in front of her. They both lowered their voices to avoid disturbing the other patients. Despite the quiet tones, neither was willing to give in. They ended up tugging and pulling at each other, stuck in a silent standoff.
While they were struggling, a nurse came in, looking hurried. Both sisters thought they were about to be scolded for being too loud. To their surprise, the nurse politely asked Luo Han to come with them.
Neither of them understood why. The nurse had even brought a wheelchair, which Luo Han immediately declined. She insisted she could walk on her own.
They were led to the hospital’s best private room. Inside, Luo Jing saw a woman sitting on a single sofa with her legs crossed. Her hair was a beautiful shade of blonde. Her skin was pale and smooth. She wore a silver-white women’s suit paired with a light blue blouse. Her appearance was entirely clean and composed, but her paleness gave off a faint sense of illness.
She looked like she might be of mixed descent. Despite her blonde hair and fair skin, her eyes were a deep, dark black. When she turned to look at them, her gaze was like two sharp blades. It was so intense that it was difficult to look directly into her eyes.
Luo Jing, who had always been timid, instinctively wanted to step back. This stranger’s expression was full of hostility. Her first reaction was to find somewhere to hide. Yet when she remembered her sister was still recovering, she summoned her courage and stepped in front of Luo Han. “Who are you?”
The woman stood up and approached them. Although she was neatly dressed, she was not wearing shoes. In the corner, a pair of silver high heels lay toppled over. The sight of her barefoot in such a formal outfit gave off a strange, jarring feeling.
“Who are you?” the woman asked in return. She was only slightly taller than Luo Jing, but her presence was overwhelming. Her expression made it clear that if she did not like the answer, she would lash out without hesitation. Her eyes could not seem to fix on one spot. They twitched and flickered in a way that did not seem entirely sane.
“Miss Wu, this is my younger sister.” Luo Han stepped forward from behind Luo Jing and gently pushed her to the back. She softened her tone when addressing the woman.
Luo Jing noticed that the woman’s eyes suddenly turned sharp and penetrating. Just moments ago, her gaze had seemed unfocused. Now it locked onto Luo Han like a scorching beam of light. She did not blink. Luo Han, though tall and strong from years of manual labor, seemed frozen under the weight of that gaze. She looked like prey facing a python.
The woman’s eyes were wide and unnervingly bright. She gave a warning. “Do not lie to me. You know I can find out.”
“I did not lie to you,” Luo Han replied softly. Her eyes met the woman’s intense stare with calm honesty, as though she knew that any flicker would be judged.
The woman seemed satisfied with that answer. She tilted her chin slightly and instructed, “Tell her who I am.”
Luo Han let out a quiet breath before turning to Luo Jing. “This is my employer, Wu Mohua.”
Luo Jing could not help but think how strange this employer was. She looked fierce, and she had even come to the hospital just because an employee took a day off.
She kept her thoughts to herself and nodded politely. “Hello.”
Wu Mohua did not return the greeting. She grabbed Luo Han and dragged her toward the hospital bed. Though she was not tall, her strength was shocking. Luo Han stumbled and was flung onto the bed.
Startled, Luo Jing hurried forward. “What are you doing? My sister is still recovering. Please do not be so rough.”
She tried to pull Wu Mohua’s hand away, but Wu Mohua only tightened her grip. Luo Han’s face twisted in pain and she cried out.
“Let go,” Wu Mohua said, glancing down at Luo Jing’s hand. Suddenly, Luo Jing felt a tingling numbness in her fingers, as though danger were near.
The sensation almost made her release her grip. But she looked at her sister being held like that and forced herself to hold on. “You should let go first.”
“Luo Jing, it is alright. Please go home. I can take care of myself,” Luo Han said, enduring the pain. She urged Luo Jing to leave.
“But…” Luo Jing found it impossible to leave her sister alone in such a situation. The golden-haired woman clearly had psychological issues. She might actually harm Luo Han.
Luo Han reassured her. “Do not worry. She will not hurt me. I just need to talk with her. You should go home.”
She gently persuaded Luo Jing to release her grip, promising that nothing bad would happen. She also swore to call her before bed. Only then did Luo Jing hesitantly let go.
Wu Mohua looked at Luo Han’s arm as if it had been contaminated. She used her own sleeve to furiously scrub the spot where Luo Jing had touched, rubbing until the skin turned red. She still did not stop.
“Sister…” Luo Jing frowned. She watched Wu Mohua as if she had fallen into her own world, obsessively scrubbing Luo Han’s arm. The sight made it difficult to feel reassured.
Luo Han gave a small smile. “It is alright. She is not a bad person at heart. She will calm down more quickly once you leave. Too many people only make things worse for her.”
Under Luo Han’s insistence, Luo Jing finally left the room. She kept turning back with every step. As the door closed, she could still hear her sister’s soft voice trying to comfort the woman.
Luo Jing remained uneasy. She decided she would try to persuade her sister to quit that job the next time they met. That employer was clearly unstable.
Just as she reached the hospital entrance, Luo Jing saw a familiar car parked nearby.
The window rolled down. Chen Xin was seated inside, her face expressionless. She curled her fingers toward Luo Jing, signaling for her to get in.
