Luo Jing spent the entire day distracted during her classes. She propped her hand against her cheek as she listened to the teacher at the podium. Her notes trailed off halfway through, with the pen tip pressed against the paper forming a tiny ink blot.

After nearly a whole day of this, Luo Jing felt annoyed with herself. She had been so distracted that she barely absorbed any of the lecture. She folded the corner of her reference book as a reminder to study it properly later. She knew she should stay focused, but her mind kept drifting to Chen Xin. She could not figure out what was happening to her, unable to control her wandering thoughts.

During her final class of the afternoon, which was a required course attended by all her classmates, Luo Jing entered the classroom and sat in her usual spot without giving it much thought. The lesson was dull, and her mind soon drifted again. She did not even notice that someone had been watching her from behind for some time.

When the bell rang, Luo Jing packed up her things and was just about to stand when someone suddenly threw an arm around her shoulders. Caught off guard, she staggered before stabilizing herself. She turned and saw who it was.

“Li Cheng?”

Li Cheng wore heavy makeup as usual and smiled brightly at her. “Class ended early today. Let’s go out and have some fun!”

Luo Jing had a clear idea of what Li Cheng meant by fun. It was definitely not anywhere proper, so she declined politely. “I have something to do.”

“You can do that later. Come on,” Li Cheng dragged out her words playfully. “You still owe me a meal for helping you find that job. We are friends, aren’t we? Don’t tell me you’re going to forget me now that you’re doing well.”

Luo Jing looked troubled. Li Cheng did play a role in helping her get that job, and she could not find a way to refuse. In the end, she sighed and gave in. “Alright, I will treat you to dinner.”

“Great! I know a really popular place.” Li Cheng did not give her a chance to back out. She took Luo Jing’s arm and led her away. Outside, Luo Jing’s driver was already waiting, which made Li Cheng mutter enviously.

“Wow, must be nice to have a driver. Your sugar mommy treats you so well.”

Luo Jing quickly pulled her into the car. “Don’t say that so loudly. There are a lot of people around!”

Li Cheng scoffed. “What are you afraid of? You have already done it.”

Luo Jing could not argue with her and simply frowned. Then she heard Li Cheng telling the driver an address.

The driver did not start the car right away. He glanced at Luo Jing through the rearview mirror, waiting for her to nod before driving off. Although he did not know Luo Jing well, he found it strange. She and Li Cheng did not seem like the type to hang out together.

After dropping them off at the entrance of a nightclub, the driver reported the situation to Assistant Li. However, Assistant Li was not surprised. In his eyes, girls who sold themselves for money often pretended to be innocent. He thought there was nothing strange about Luo Jing going to a nightclub, so he chose not to inform Chen Xin.

Luo Jing had been pulled into this by Li Cheng. She found the high prices at the nightclub difficult to accept, but Li Cheng dismissed her concerns, claiming she was just too rural to understand how things worked in the city. Luo Jing did not drink, and although Li Cheng did not force her, she left Luo Jing to foot the bill while she enjoyed herself. Luo Jing had no choice but to swipe the gold card Chen Xin had given her.

Li Cheng later discovered another benefit of bringing Luo Jing along. The nightclub was full of women dressed provocatively like herself, but Luo Jing’s natural beauty attracted even more attention. Before long, a group of attractive men had gathered around them. Li Cheng stopped dancing and stayed by Luo Jing’s side so she could also get approached by these men.

Luo Jing sipped on an overpriced fruit juice while Li Cheng flirted with strangers over a cocktail. The place was loud, and conversations required leaning in close. Luo Jing felt out of place and remained mostly silent. It was obvious to the regulars that she was a lost little lamb, and many started eyeing her.

“You don’t drink?” A good-looking man approached her. He had been dancing with another girl but lost interest the moment he saw Luo Jing. Her wide-eyed look stirred something in him, and he noticed she was drinking juice. He used that as an excuse to start a conversation.

Luo Jing shook her head.

He ordered a sweet cocktail. “You can’t come to a nightclub and not drink. Try this. It tastes just like juice. I think you will like it.”

The bartender observed her closely. It was clear she was new to the environment. He could not just stand by and watch her get tricked into drinking. He gave Li Cheng a meaningful glance, hoping she would take responsibility for her friend.

Li Cheng’s eyes lit up when she saw the man. He was better looking than the others around. She hurried over with a flirtatious tone. “Don’t bother offering her a drink. She does not like alcohol. If you are buying, why not buy one for me instead?”

The man glanced at Li Cheng and lost interest quickly. Aside from being young, she did not have much appeal. In a place like this, there were countless women just like her. He was not looking for someone so forward.

Since they seemed to be together, he politely ordered two drinks and had them sent over. “Of course, ladies should be treated well.”

Luo Jing, however, did not touch the drink. She even pulled out her card to pay for her own juice. “I will pay for mine.”

This piqued the man’s interest further. He had not expected this little lamb to be so cautious. That only made things more exciting. He leaned on the bar and started chatting with her again. Li Cheng joined in from time to time, acting as though they were all friends and playfully asking for another drink.

Soon, some men that Li Cheng had brushed off earlier started getting annoyed. They felt the man was in their way. One of the girls the man had been dancing with also came over. Seeing him now talking and laughing with Li Cheng and Luo Jing, she grew furious.

“You tramp! If you are going to throw yourself at someone, go do it somewhere else!” she shouted. She was a regular at the club and had finally found a decent-looking guy, only to see him stolen away.

Li Cheng had some pride in her appearance and was immediately enraged. She stormed over to argue with the girl. The man tried to play the gentleman in front of Luo Jing and stepped in to break up the fight. However, a group of young men blocked his way and picked a fight.

Chaos erupted in front of her. Luo Jing sat there wide-eyed and stunned. She turned to the bartender and asked, “Is this how things usually are here? People drink, dance, flirt, and then fight?”

The bartender shrugged. “This place is not for you. You should go home.”

Right after he said that, someone tapped Luo Jing on the shoulder. She turned to find the driver standing beside her. “Miss Luo, are you ready to leave?”

The driver had waited outside but grew increasingly uneasy. Without waiting for instructions from Chen Xin, he decided it was safer to go in and take her home.

Luo Jing glanced at the ongoing argument and paid for the drinks, including the ones Li Cheng had. Then she followed the driver out.

That evening, Chen Xin received a notification about the card usage. She noticed a few thousand yuan had been spent. With a small smile, she assumed Luo Jing was finally willing to spend the money she gave her. She did not even think to check what the charge was for.
