The Crybaby Mistress GL - Chapter 14
Originally, they had expected to stay at the Chen family home until evening. However, to their surprise, it was not even three o’clock when both parents had already gone out. Although they were not asked to leave, Chen Xin and Luo Jie found no reason to linger in an empty house, so they simply left on their own.
Once they were alone, Luo Jie eagerly moved closer to Chen Xin, clearly ready to confront her. She had tricked him into coming. She had claimed that Chen Zhen had invited him, which turned out to be false. Luo Jie would never have agreed to eat with them otherwise. The meal had been a suffocating ordeal from start to finish.
“You tricked me! Do you know how many plans I canceled just to be here? If it weren’t for you, I’d probably be at some bar having fun right now. Do you even realize that?” Luo Jie was genuinely regretful. Earlier that day, a friend had invited him out for drinks and even offered to treat.
Chen Xin glanced at him coolly and said, “You can still go drink now.”
Luo Jie was not ready to let it go. “Absolutely not. You owe me a drink. Come on. Let’s go.”
Luo Jie was much more familiar with bars. He took the wheel, and they had barely driven a short distance before arriving at one. Drinking early in the day was indulgent, and they would definitely need to call a driver later.
Chen Xin was genuinely in a foul mood. Once she sat down, she did not say a word. She simply raised her glass and poured a shot of strong liquor straight down her throat. The burning sensation stung her throat, but somehow the pain brought relief.
Watching her drink like that, Luo Jie confirmed that bringing her here had been the right choice. Otherwise, she might have kept giving him the cold shoulder for days. The two of them drank heavily, disregarding quality or taste. Only when they began to feel tipsy did they finally start to speak.
“So, tell me. Why did your mom drag you home this time?” Luo Jie slouched into the sofa, lazily swirling the liquor in his glass. At the mention of Chen Xin’s mother, a look of distress appeared on his face.
Chen Xin did not want to talk about it. However, keeping it bottled up only made it worse. She slammed her glass on the table. The ice cubes inside clinked against the glass with a crisp sound. “She wants us to have a child.”
Luo Jie choked and sprayed his drink in shock. “What did you just say?”
“She wants us to have a child,” Chen Xin repeated, the thought alone making her teeth ache.
They exchanged looks, both clearly imagining the same terrible scenario. The moment passed, and they simultaneously grimaced with disgust, their expressions eerily synchronized.
Luo Jie wrapped his arms around his chest, striking a pose like a scandalized maiden. He looked flustered and panicked. “No matter what happens, I will never let you succeed!” The performance made Chen Xin’s fists itch.
“Do you think this is what I want?” Her expression darkened further. Although she had always known this day would come, facing it still gave her a headache.
Luo Jie stopped joking and leaned closer. “What now? Should we steal a baby just to shut them up, or do you have some better plan?”
Chen Xin wiped a hand down her face. “When will this ever end?”
“I told you this would happen when you first suggested a fake marriage. Do you remember what you said back then? Take it one step at a time. I warned you this would spiral out of control sooner or later.” Luo Jie sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
“Shut your mouth.” Chen Xin shot him a glare. “If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t even be in this situation.”
They had known each other since they were ten years old and had gotten into plenty of trouble together. Luo Jie’s family was on par with the Chens, and their households had long been in contact. Two years ago, Luo Jie got into serious trouble with a girl. It escalated so badly that his father nearly broke his legs. In the end, he and Chen Xin got married to clean up the mess. On the surface, it looked like Luo Jie had finally settled down, which convinced his family to let him off the hook.
Of course, the decision was not his alone. The two had agreed to it together.
Chen Xin had her own reasons. Luo Jie pointed at her. “Unless you actually plan to come out?”
Chen Xin’s expression darkened instantly. The conversation froze. Neither of them spoke, and the air between them grew cold. Chen Xin reached for another drink and emptied the glass.
“That’s not what I meant,” Luo Jie said, coughing lightly. “I’m probably drunk already. I was just talking nonsense.”
No one else knew this part of Chen Xin’s life. Only Luo Jie. She had always been a lesbian, something she kept buried deep inside. She never told anyone else because her father, Chen Zhen, was obsessed with reputation. He would never accept that his daughter loved women. At the time, Chen Xin had been nearing thirty. Her mother, Xu Fangting, had begun interfering in her marriage prospects. Chen Xin could not have a relationship with a man. When Luo Jie’s scandal broke out, they saw the chance and formed a pact. Their families were well matched, and Chen Zhen had no reason to object to the marriage.
They had always been close, like siblings. Living as a married couple while staying out of each other’s personal lives had worked well. However, every arrangement has a limit. Less than two years into the marriage, new problems had already begun to emerge.
“We have two options. We either have a child for real or this marriage is going to end. Your mom says she wants a grandchild, and she absolutely means it. She’s even harder to fool than my dad,” Luo Jie said with a sigh.
They both drank in silence. Their foreheads were creased with frustration.
Meanwhile, Luo Jing was also troubled. She sat with a sheet of paper, scribbling numbers and formulas, her brow furrowed. The page was filled with simple arithmetic, just basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Yet no matter how she calculated, the result never looked right.
She was trying to figure out how much money she should send back home. If she said it was all her savings from her allowance, it had to be believable. If she claimed it was from working part-time, that had to be plausible too.
Sending too much would raise suspicion. If she sent too little, she worried that her family would not have enough.
After spending the entire day packing up the things Chen Xin had brought her, she had been fixated on this calculation. Every time she tried to finalize the amount, her nerves would spike. She feared someone would notice something odd.
As she gripped her hair in frustration, the apartment doorbell rang. Luo Jing got up to check. Chen Xin and Luo Jie stumbled through the door, drunk beyond belief and clinging to each other. Luo Jie could barely walk straight, half-dragging Chen Xin along.
The stench of alcohol hit her immediately. It was so strong it made her eyes sting. The two of them looked like they had been soaked in liquor and were just pulled out of a vat. Their speech was slurred and incoherent.
“We’re here! Hey, we made it! Are you asleep?” Luo Jie wobbled as he held onto Chen Xin. When she didn’t respond, he burst into laughter. Though he could barely stand, he still teased her. “Told you that you couldn’t drink like me. Couldn’t keep up.”
Chen Xin winced. Her eyebrows furrowed in discomfort. Without warning, she slapped Luo Jie across the face. “Shut it!”
A clear red handprint bloomed across Luo Jie’s cheek. Luo Jing stood frozen in shock. After a bit more back-and-forth, Luo Jie dropped Chen Xin onto the couch. She sprawled out, eyes unfocused, exhaling the scent of alcohol. She appeared to have passed out.
Luo Jie shook his head and turned to Luo Jing, who was still huddled on the side. In a slurred voice, he said, “She insisted on coming here. She’s your problem now.”
“Oh, okay.” Luo Jing nodded. Seeing how drunk he was, she asked, “Do you want to stay over tonight?”
Luo Jie waved her off and stumbled toward the door. Only then did Luo Jing notice a man in a suit waiting outside. The man looked like a chauffeur or assistant. He helped Luo Jie into the car and addressed him as young master.
After seeing Luo Jie off, Luo Jing turned back toward the living room. Chen Xin still lay on the sofa. Her breathing sounded steady, but it was unclear whether she was truly asleep. Knowing how uncomfortable it was to sleep on a couch, Luo Jing approached with the intention of helping her to bed. She also planned to remove her outer clothes and wipe her face.
“President Chen?” Luo Jing asked softly as she walked over. Chen Xin’s eyes were closed.
Just as Luo Jing reached out to touch her, Chen Xin suddenly pulled her forward. The two of them tumbled onto the couch together. Luo Jing let out a surprised cry, but before she could react, Chen Xin’s lips, heavy with the smell of alcohol, pressed against hers.
This has not turned tragic yet.
Everyone, please stay calm.
