The Cannon Fodder Stole the Male Lead’s Script GL - Chapter 66
When Zhan Rao arrived at the hotel room, Jiang Yun was still asleep. Hearing the doorbell, she got up groggily and opened the door. As soon as it swung open, the girl outside darted in and leapt into her arms.
Zhan Rao hugged her waist tightly and jumped with excitement. “Jiang Yun, thank you, thank you. Grandma can be saved. She can be saved. Thank you.”
Jiang Yun was jolted fully awake by her bouncing. She held her dotingly and asked, “Yes, she can be saved. So no more crying now, right?”
Zhan Rao smiled sheepishly.
Only then did she notice the exhaustion on Jiang Yun’s face. She remembered that when she had woken up in the morning, Jiang Yun was already gone. Everything about Grandma’s hospital arrangements had been settled perfectly. Her intuition told her it was not the hospital but Jiang Yun who had taken care of it all.
She was always like this, quietly taking care of everything for her.
After such a busy morning, she must be very tired.
“Jiang Yun, you should sleep a bit more.”
Zhan Rao pulled her toward the bed, but Jiang Yun shook her head with a smile. She glanced at her watch. The hour hand pointed to eleven-thirty. She had only been lying down for about half an hour, but looking at the little one in front of her, Jiang Yun decided not to sleep and instead take Zhan Rao out for a good meal.
“It is already late. You must be hungry. Let’s get something to eat.”
Zhan Rao quickly grabbed her. “No, I am not hungry. You need to sleep. I will sleep with you, okay? Last night you stayed with me. Today it is my turn to stay with you.” In fact, she was starving. She had rushed over with her father early in the morning, eating only one piece of bread on the way. Her stomach had been growling for a while.
But she just did not want Jiang Yun to always be the one taking care of her.
Going hungry a little so Jiang Yun could sleep better was a small price to pay.
Jiang Yun chuckled and pressed a hand to her forehead. “Then I am hungry too. How about we go eat something delicious together?”
Zhan Rao’s expression froze, but she nodded firmly. “Fine, but—” She dragged Jiang Yun to the bed and pressed her down to sit. “You have to stay here and fall asleep. I will go buy food. What do you want? I will bring it back.”
Jiang Yun looked at her determined face and burst into laughter.
Zhan Rao immediately glared at her fiercely. “What are you laughing at? Stop laughing. If you go out, you might lose your sleepiness. Stay here and get your rest.”
“Alright, alright, Sister Zhan. I will listen to you.”
Zhan Rao placed her hands on her hips, satisfied. “So what do you want to eat?”
Jiang Yun looked at her and suddenly reached out to pull her down. Caught off guard, Zhan Rao fell straight into her arms. Jiang Yun rolled over and pinned her beneath her. “I want to eat you.”
Zhan Rao’s face turned beet red in an instant.
She stammered, “You… you… you can’t say things like that. We… we are not even adults yet.”
Even though she really wanted Jiang Yun to completely and thoroughly devour her in every sense, they were still underage and it was not permitted.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yun lifted her head and leaned on her elbow, smiling down at her. “Oh? Not adults yet? Were you imagining how I was going to eat you?”
Zhan Rao was stunned.
Then she saw Jiang Yun grab her arm and gently bite it.
Jiang Yun grinned. “See? Done eating.”
Zhan Rao’s entire face exploded in red.
She glared and scolded, “Jiang Yun!”
Then she scrambled to her feet, grabbed her phone and room key, and ran off without looking back. Jiang Yun lay on the bed, propping her chin in her hands, laughing so hard that her eyes welled up.
——
Zhan Rao stormed out of the room with her face flushed, frustrated that Jiang Yun always teased her but never followed through, and she groaned inwardly as she wondered what on earth she had been thinking.
She shook her head hard. She secretly swore that once she came of age, she would definitely make Jiang Yun regret all her teasing.
She ran around visiting several shops, buying lots of food that Jiang Yun liked. She only chose food that was filling and easy to digest, since Jiang Yun needed more sleep. She even got a pack of Yakult to help with digestion.
When she returned, the room was quiet. Jiang Yun had already fallen asleep, still in the exact pose she had left her, propped up on her elbows watching her go.
Now that she was asleep, her hand had collapsed under her neck.
Just how tired must she have been to fall asleep like this?
Zhan Rao felt a twinge of guilt.
It was her family’s problem, but Jiang Yun had given so much of her time and energy.
“Thank you, Jiang Yun.”
She whispered softly and bent down to kiss her on the forehead. After that, she looked at Jiang Yun’s lips with temptation stirring in her chest and hesitated, unsure whether she should act on the impulse.
This was all Jiang Yun’s fault for constantly teasing her. Now all she could think about were those naughty thoughts.
But just a kiss should be alright, right?
Besides, she would not even know.
With that thought, Zhan Rao leaned in. Her lips drew closer to Jiang Yun’s.
Just as they were about to touch, Jiang Yun suddenly opened her eyes and looked at her with a smile. “Trying to steal another kiss?”
There was not a hint of sleepiness in her eyes. She was clearly wide awake.
Zhan Rao jumped back in fright, but Jiang Yun reached out and pulled her right back, pinning her down.
Jiang Yun rested her head on Zhan Rao’s stomach and wrapped her arms around her waist. Like a golden retriever, she rubbed her head against her. “Just stay with me for a bit. I’m tired.”
Her exhausted and childlike voice made Zhan Rao melt. She stroked Jiang Yun’s hair gently. “But you haven’t eaten in a while. You should eat something first. The noodles will get soggy and taste bad.”
Jiang Yun let out a long sigh. “Then help me up. You’ll have to feed me.”
Zhan Rao was stunned.
She had not expected Jiang Yun to act spoiled so openly. But when she did, Zhan Rao had no resistance at all. “Fine, fine. Just let me go first. You’re holding me so tight I can’t move.”
“I don’t care. I want to hold you like this.”
Zhan Rao was speechless.
In the end, she struggled a lot before finally getting up and helping Jiang Yun up too. She set the noodles and everything else on the table and used a little fork to feed her bite by bite.
Jiang Yun watched her fussy, cautious movements. She was feeding just a couple of strands of noodles at a time. One moment she was worried they were too hot, and the next she was afraid they might make her choke. Jiang Yun could not keep a straight face.
“Alright, alright. Let me do it. If you keep feeding me like this, it’ll take a year to get full.”
She took the bowl and started eating on her own.
Zhan Rao looked a little disappointed. “It’s my first time. I’ll definitely get better.”
Jiang Yun smiled with curved eyes. “Of course. You’ll get better. When we get married, you can feed me every day.”
Zhan Rao’s face turned red again.
Married?
Did Jiang Yun really say they were going to get married??
Jiang Yun slurped her noodles and looked at her with a smile. “Who else would it be?”
“Who knows? Maybe someday it won’t be me. You probably have a lot of people around you.”
Zhan Rao poked her fingers together, sulking.
Jiang Yun knew she was just being jealous again and smiled. “Aren’t you the one who said even if there’s a line, there’s only one person in it? If anyone else shows up, you’ll chase them away with a stick, right?”
Zhan Rao’s face turned even redder.
“So you do remember that. Well, I don’t care. You said the word marriage today, and you’re not allowed to take it back. Pinky swear.”
She held out her little finger.
Jiang Yun looked at the childish gesture and hooked her finger with hers.
Zhan Rao stared at their linked fingers and recited, “Pinky swear, hang from a hook, for a hundred years, no change. Whoever breaks the promise is a stinky turtle. Jiang Yun, from now on you’re not allowed to go back on your word. If you don’t marry me, I’ll show up at your doorstep with a knife.”
Jiang Yun looked at her fierce little face and burst out laughing.
——
After eating, they stayed in bed until three-thirty in the afternoon. Jiang Yun was woken by a call from Qin Meng, asking her to attend a business meeting at the North District Hotel in Feng City at eight o’clock that evening.
Feng City was a three-hour drive from Chuan City.
She checked the time and realized she could not delay. She told Zhan Rao what was going on.
Zhan Rao understood. She also realized she needed to return to the hospital. But…
“What’s wrong?”
Jiang Yun noticed something off in her expression as she packed and asked quickly.
Zhan Rao looked down at her fingers. “Nothing. I just don’t want to be apart from you. I’ve already taken a long leave from school. I plan to stay in Chuan City and take care of Grandma until she’s out of danger. That means I won’t be back at school for about a month. I won’t see you for a whole month…”
Tears welled up in her eyes.
Jiang Yun rubbed her forehead helplessly.
“Are you silly? Just because you’re not going back to school doesn’t mean I can’t come to here to visit you.”
Zhan Rao’s eyes lit up instantly.
“Really? You’ll really come?”
Jiang Yun nodded. “Of course. I’ll miss you too.”
Zhan Rao finally relaxed and immediately began giving instructions. “Then while I’m not at school this month, you have to study hard. And no flirting with any other girls. If I find out you’re messing around while I’m gone, you’re dead.”
Jiang Yun nodded obediently. “Got it.”
“And that Yan Kuo. Stay away from him. He’s bad news. I should’ve whacked him on the head last time. Maybe it would’ve knocked some sense into him.”
“Got it.”
“Also, I’ll send you homework every day. You must finish it. Seriously.”
“Got it.”
“And… and…”
“And what else?”
“I can’t think of anything right now. I’ll tell you when I remember.”
“Alright. I’ll do whatever you say.”
Jiang Yun smiled at her. “Happy now? Feeling better?”
Zhan Rao snorted proudly.
Jiang Yun looked at her with deep fondness. “Okay, stay here and take care of Grandma. If anything goes wrong, call me. And here. Take this.”
She pulled out a set of keys.
“This is for an apartment I own in downtown. You and your family can stay there while they care for Grandma. It must be hard to find a place. If you feel awkward explaining, just say it’s a rental. If your parents offer to pay, keep the money. I’ve already paid the utilities and had it cleaned. If you’re unhappy with anything, tell me right away. Understand?”
Zhan Rao stared at the keys, speechless.
She never could have imagined how thoughtful Jiang Yun could be.
“Jiang Yun…” She hugged her around the waist, her nose and eyes tingling. “How can you be so good to me…”
Jiang Yun stroked her head and smiled. “Silly girl. I’m only good to you. I’m a villainess, remember? I’m not that nice.”
“Alright, go on. I’ve got to leave too.”
Zhan Rao nodded reluctantly.
As soon as she left the hotel, she received a message from Jiang Yun with the apartment address.
Tears welled up instantly.
