The Cannon Fodder Stole the Male Lead’s Script GL - Chapter 63
Jiang Yun curled her lips into a sly smile and tilted her head slightly. In a low voice, she said, “Promise me one more thing, or I will expose your identity.”
“What the hell!”
Qin Meng immediately let out a sharp yell.
However, when she noticed the people around them staring, she quickly lowered her voice. “Rich Girl, you really are inhuman. You never do anything a decent person would. Is that right?”
“Just say whether you agree or not.”
Qin Meng rolled her eyes dramatically and saw the others still looking confused. She clenched her teeth. “Fine, I agree.”
Jiang Yun looked extremely disdainful as she released Qin Meng’s mouth.
They both remained seated, although all eyes were still focused on them. Thankfully, the two of them had grown up dealing with all kinds of attention, so this kind of pressure meant very little.
“Hello, Jiang Yun.”
Encouraged by her friend Feng Ting, Mei Yu finally summoned the courage to step forward. She held out a drink she had been clutching tightly.
“Would you like something to drink?”
Jiang Yun glanced at the soda and shook her head. “I don’t drink this. Can you get me a bottle of mineral water?”
Mei Yu’s face initially showed disappointment when she heard the first part, but her eyes lit up as soon as she heard the second part. She nodded quickly. “Sure.”
She darted off and exchanged her soda for a bottle of water.
When Jiang Yun saw the Yibao label in Mei Yu’s hand, she paused. Still, she took the bottle casually, twisted off the cap, and drank a sip.
Mei Yu did not notice anything strange, but Qin Meng certainly did. Jiang Yun never drank carbonated drinks. She usually only drank imported, high-end mineral water, the kind that a typical KTV wouldn’t stock.
Qin Meng had thought Jiang Yun would refuse outright, but instead, she had accepted a cheap bottle and even taken a sip. That was quite rare.
Qin Meng couldn’t help but whisper, “You really have changed a lot.”
Jiang Yun rolled her eyes in response.
She knew perfectly well that she had changed. Ever since she had awakened her consciousness, she had known that many things would be different.
She remembered that her past self had been very particular. If it was not expensive, she would not eat it. If someone else had touched it, she would not eat it. If it looked unappetizing, she would not eat it.
In short, she was a stereotypical spoiled rich girl and very unapproachable.
Although that side of her still existed, it had once been exaggerated by the narrative. Now, she was trying to restrain it.
She tried to maintain some of her habits while also adapting to others.
After all, there was not much difference in taste between a bottle of Yibao that cost one and a half yuan and a Kobe mineral water bottle that cost fifteen hundred.
Mei Yu continued to sneak glances at Jiang Yun’s expression. She stood awkwardly beside her. Although clearly embarrassed, she was unwilling to leave.
Finally, Jiang Yun spoke first. “Was this the class gathering you mentioned before?”
Hearing Jiang Yun talk to her, Mei Yu sat down immediately and nodded. “Yes, this is the one. I thought you wouldn’t come, but I’m so glad you did. Thank you, Jiang Yun.”
Jiang Yun looked puzzled.
She chuckled. “I came without an invitation, and you’re thanking me? I should be the one thanking you and apologizing for disturbing your gathering.”
Mei Yu quickly shook her head. “No, not at all. I’m genuinely happy you came. I never expected it. So, thank you. This is honestly the best birthday gift I’ve ever received.”
Jiang Yun froze. That was when she finally noticed the streamers and balloons in the KTV room. They read “HAPPY BIRTHDAY.”
Oh no.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t know it was your birthday, and I showed up empty-handed.”
She glared at Qin Meng.
Qin Meng raised her hands in a helpless gesture, clearly saying she had no idea either.
The only reason she had come was to chase after the girl named Mei Jianxue. She had not paid any attention to whether her classmate was celebrating a birthday.
The two of them exchanged an awkward glance but quickly understood each other. While Jiang Yun and Mei Yu continued chatting, Qin Meng had already ordered a cake for rush delivery.
Mei Yu, however, was still unaware.
“Please don’t say that. Your presence is the best gift.”
She nervously tucked her hair behind her ear.
At that moment, several other girls approached. They looked admiring and lined up to greet Jiang Yun one by one.
“Hello, Jiang Yun. I’m Chen Lin from Class 9, Year 1.”
“Hello, Jiang Yun. I’m Lu Kong from Class 1, Year 3. I’m two years ahead of you.”
“So you’re Jiang Yun. I’m not from your school. I attend Hongye High. You’re quite famous there.”
After she had sent those delinquents to the police and pressured the school to expel several notorious troublemakers, Jiang Yun’s name had spread throughout Hongye High.
Jiang Yun responded with a polite smile.
“Nice to meet you all.”
Her approachable demeanor made everyone even more excited. They instinctively sat near her and struck up conversations.
“Jiang Yun, you’re even more beautiful in person than in all the photos on forums and message boards.”
“Exactly. You look amazing, and your personality is so nice too. You’re nothing like the rumors. Who started spreading those lies about you?”
“I also heard about Yan Kuo bothering you. That guy is disgusting. How could someone like him think he’s worthy of you? He doesn’t even deserve to carry your shoes.”
A wave of indignant complaints followed.
They sounded like lifelong friends who understood her deeply.
Jiang Yun was clearly unused to being the center of such admiration.
At school, everyone knew she was hard to approach. Combined with her past behavior and bad reputation, people usually stayed away.
Now, thanks to the influence from Hongye High, this crowd was going out of their way to cozy up to her.
Jiang Yun kept smiling and stayed silent. She let them chatter without interruption.
Meanwhile, Qin Meng’s status rose dramatically simply because of Jiang Yun’s presence.
“Oh my god, Qin Changmeng, you’ve been hiding your true self. You always seemed so quiet, but you really do know Jiang Yun.”
Qin Meng flipped her hair proudly and pulled Jiang Yun closer. “Of course. I told you I could get her to come. I keep my promises, so don’t underestimate me.”
Jiang Yun couldn’t help but laugh. She elbowed Qin Meng in the chest.
Qin Meng winced and quickly realized her behavior did not match her shy persona.
She quickly pulled back and gave an awkward giggle.
Then she resumed her timid look and said in a small voice, “Now that I’ve brought her, can you all stop trying to kick me out? I really like being here.”
The girls who had bullied her earlier quickly sat beside her. They hugged her like close friends and laughed. “Why would we kick you out? You can stay. What are you even saying?”
Qin Meng nodded right away. “That’s good. I’m glad.”
Jiang Yun, sitting next to her, silently watched her act.
After a while, the crowd that had surrounded Jiang Yun dispersed to sing. She kept her polite smile and did not talk much, so no one tried to bother her again.
Some still whispered about how stunning she looked in person.
Mei Yu watched as the others left and breathed a sigh of relief.
She smiled. “My friends are just really enthusiastic. They mean no harm. They’re just curious and admire you.”
Jiang Yun waved it off. “It’s fine.”
The conversation quieted.
Jiang Yun kept glancing at Qin Meng, who was still clinging to Mei Jianxue.
From the moment she saw Mei Jianxue, Jiang Yun understood why Qin Meng had insisted on dragging her to this KTV. It really was all for flirting.
Hopeless player. Never changes.
“I never properly thanked you for helping me with the exam,” Mei Yu said softly. She wanted to keep the conversation going with Jiang Yun.
Jiang Yun took a sip of water and shook her head. “It was nothing. Don’t worry about it.”
“But I can’t. I was worried you might not do well because of me. By the way, how did your English exam go? Did you finish in time?”
Jiang Yun replied, “It was alright.”
Mei Yu continued, “Really? Did you finish everything? I hope I didn’t affect your answers.”
Jiang Yun gave a small smile. “Don’t worry. You didn’t.”
Mei Yu bit her lip.
“You must be really good at English. I did terribly this time. I didn’t know how to write the essay, and I couldn’t understand the reading passages. My English has always been weak.”
She looked at Jiang Yun with hopeful eyes. “Are you really good at English? If it’s not too much to ask, could you maybe tutor me? I’m really struggling.”
Jiang Yun looked at her strangely. “You want me to tutor you?”
Mei Yu noticed the change in her tone and nodded quickly.
“Yes. You seemed really confident during the exam.”
“You saw how I answered?”
Mei Yu’s face turned red. She had not wanted to admit it. During the exam, she had been worried about Jiang Yun and kept peeking through the reflection in Jiang Yun’s water bottle.
What she saw was Jiang Yun calmly answering every question, completely unfazed. That impression had stayed with her.
And in private, Jiang Yun was so polite and elegant.
Mei Yu thought someone like her was incredibly admirable.
Admirable enough to make her heart skip a beat.
Just a little…
Mei Yu’s face turned redder.
