The Cannon Fodder Stole the Male Lead’s Script GL - Chapter 50
Aside from this thread, an old sticky post titled #Your top goal in three years of high school?# resurfaced and was bumped back to the top. Now, all the replies underneath looked the same.
[In these three years, I don’t want to do anything else. I just want to become Yan Kuo’s dad.]
Of course, Xin Keke saw the thread too. She let out a loud laugh, but when she turned her head, she noticed Jiang Yun’s expression was a bit odd.
Her eyebrows were raised with a look of disdain, as if to say, You think you’re worthy?
“Something did happen last night,” Jiang Yun said.
After speaking, she turned to her phone. Her long fingers tapped the screen, sending out message after message. But despite more than a dozen texts, there was no reply at all from the person on the other end.
Such a temper. Truly.
Seeing that Jiang Yun was busy texting, Xin Keke didn’t want to interrupt. She skimmed the post, grinning the whole way through, then quickly replied to Tong Xue, “It really is hilarious. Yan Kuo is such a conceited guy, I bet he won’t even come to school this week.”
Tong Xue replied right away.
Tong Xue: Hopefully he never comes back.
Tong Xue: You weren’t there last night. He deliberately egged on our whole class to drag Zhan Rao to the playground. That was basically a kidnapping! Even if it’s about recognizing a mother, this is not how you do it. Good thing it was just for a ‘mother.’ If it had been a confession, imagine how awkward that would’ve been. With so many people watching, does she say yes or no? People who try to move others with grand gestures and force them to meet their expectations without considering their feelings are the worst.
Tong Xue kept ranting about Yan Kuo, but Xin Keke couldn’t read much further.
All she could think about was how Tong Xue clearly hated that kind of public confession. So if she wanted to confess one day, she couldn’t do it in front of a crowd.
But then, how should she confess?
What kind of confession would Tong Xue like?
She let out a long sigh.
Her head hurt.
“Are you chatting with Tong Xue?”
Xin Keke was still deep in thought when Jiang Yun suddenly turned to her and asked.
Xin Keke snapped back and nodded. “Yeah. What’s up?”
Jiang Yun looked a bit troubled and asked, “Can you do me a favor and talk to Tong Xue for me?”
Xin Keke blinked. “Say what?”
“Um, well…”
Jiang Yun looked even more embarrassed. She was clearly feeling awkward.
“Tell Tong Xue to talk to Zhan Rao for me. Ask her not to be mad at me anymore. Please?”
Xin Keke’s eyes widened in disbelief.
This was the first time she had seen fearless Jiang Yun acting shy, trying to coax someone. It was unbelievable.
Still, that odd look did seem to fit Jiang Yun, especially when it had something to do with Zhan Rao. In front of Zhan Rao, Jiang Yun really wasn’t the same Jiang Yun everyone else saw.
“Okay.”
Xin Keke agreed immediately. As she sent the message for Jiang Yun, she even showed her the wording. Jiang Yun’s face turned red, and once the message was sent, she became a bit restless.
Over on the other end, Tong Xue read the message several times, even bringing her face close to the screen and reading it word for word.
She finally confirmed she wasn’t imagining things.
Xin Keke really had messaged her on Jiang Yun’s behalf.
“Tong Xue, Jiang Yun asked me to tell you to help talk to Zhan Rao. Tell her not to be mad anymore. Jiang Yun also said she was wrong and wants Zhan Rao to forgive her.”
“Hey hey hey~” Tong Xue nudged Zhan Rao with her elbow. Zhan Rao gave her an irritated look. It was obvious she was still mad about being called “Yan Kuo’s mom.”
“Jiang Yun said she doesn’t want you to be mad anymore. She knows she was wrong.”
“Jiang Yun? Where is she?” As soon as Zhan Rao heard the name, she turned her head.
Tong Xue rolled her eyes. She thought to herself how obvious the double standard was. She handed her the phone.
Zhan Rao glanced at the screen, and her expression immediately softened. She smiled so brightly it rivaled flowers. She said shyly, “Ah, Jiang Yun actually still cares that I got a little upset…”
She quickly pulled out her own phone. On the screen were dozens of messages and calls from Jiang Yun. There were WeChat messages, phone calls, Weibo notes, text messages, and even friend requests on Alipay.
All the messages were pleas for forgiveness, filled with emojis begging for mercy.
Zhan Rao could not stop smiling.
She had never really been mad at Jiang Yun to begin with. She was just angry at those classmates linking her with Yan Kuo. But she hadn’t expected Jiang Yun to care so much.
That feeling of being spoiled to the skies was amazing.
Tong Xue was practically rolling her eyes to the heavens at how fast Zhan Rao changed expressions.
She wondered what she had done to deserve this. She had to sit next to Zhan Rao and get bombarded with this much public affection.
She looked down and messaged Xin Keke.
Tong Xue: From now on, don’t be the messenger between Jiang Yun and Zhan Rao.
Xin Keke: ??? Why not?
Tong Xue: I’m a single dog choking on their love.
Xin Keke paused. She wondered who was even showing off their love in front of her. Wait a second. Was it Jiang Yun and Zhan Rao? Were they dating?
Xin Keke was stunned. She and Jiang Yun sat together now, but they weren’t that close. She had no idea about Jiang Yun’s love life. But if it was with Zhan Rao, then actually, it really did look like they were in a relationship.
But she didn’t expect Tong Xue’s next message to completely shake her heart. For the rest of the day, she couldn’t concentrate on class.
Tong Xue: I really want to date someone too! Someone please date me already ahhhhh!
Xin Keke was floored.
For two or three whole days, Xin Keke was full of excitement over that one sentence from Tong Xue about wanting to date.
Her thoughts ran wild. She wondered whether Tong Xue had said that on purpose, maybe even as a hint.
But she didn’t dare confess her feelings.
She was driving herself mad.
When she used to have a crush on Li Yue, she was bold and confident. She would do whatever she wanted, protect her openly, and confess when she felt like it. But now, she didn’t dare show even a hint of affection around Tong Xue.
These days, she always tried to tag along with Jiang Yun, Zhan Rao, and Tong Xue, wanting to be close. But every time Tong Xue talked to her, she got so nervous she couldn’t respond properly. Or she would just stare at Tong Xue while eating, until Tong Xue looked back at her with a confused expression.
Xin Keke was dying of embarrassment.
“Something bothering you these days?”
On the way back to school after lunch, Jiang Yun asked her casually.
Xin Keke froze. Then her face turned red with embarrassment. She wondered whether she had been acting so strangely that even Jiang Yun had noticed.
If Jiang Yun noticed, did that mean Tong Xue did too?
“Nothing much, just… something on my mind.”
“You like Tong Xue?”
Xin Keke was stunned.
She stared at Jiang Yun, completely shocked.
Jiang Yun rolled her eyes. “It’s all over your face. You’re way too obvious.”
“Really?!”
Xin Keke clapped her hands over her face, as if that simple gesture could hide her feelings.
“Then… do you think Tong Xue noticed?”
Jiang Yun thought about it and said, “Anyone with half a brain would notice.”
Xin Keke’s heart started pounding even faster.
“Then maybe I should… confess?”
“Tong Xue, have you noticed anything weird about Keke lately?”
On the way back to Class 18, Zhan Rao asked cautiously.
Tong Xue looked up from her phone, touched her chin, and frowned. “Weird? Yeah, she’s been kinda dazed lately. I was going to ask if she’s sick.”
Zhan Rao sighed and covered her face.
She quickly pulled Tong Xue back. “Don’t ask her just yet.”
She paused, then asked, “What do you think of Keke?”
Tong Xue gave her a strange look. “What do I think? Of course, I think she’s great!”
Zhan Rao brightened for a moment thinking Tong Xue had caught on, but Tong Xue continued speaking without pause.
“That’s why I see her as a friend! We used to be pretty close as kids but we gradually drifted apart as time went on. It’s nice to reconnect now. She’s really sweet.”
Zhan Rao stared blankly.
“Just friends?”
“What else? Don’t tell me she sees me as a mom too?!”
Zhan Rao’s expression darkened. “Get lost.”
She tried another angle. “I honestly think Keke’s been acting like she has a crush on someone.”
As soon as she said that, she locked eyes on Tong Xue and carefully observed her expression, searching for any trace of displeasure, jealousy, or perhaps even envy.
But all she saw was surprise. Then gossip-mode activated.
“Really, really?! Who does she like?! Do I know them?!”
After a few seconds, she added, “Wait, wasn’t she really protective of Li Yue before? I even heard rumors she liked her. So is she the one?! Ew. If it’s Li Yue, then Xin Keke really has bad taste. That’s no fun, no fun…”
Zhan Rao was speechless.
She had always believed she was good at reading people and understanding their thoughts through their expressions.
But right now, she couldn’t read Tong Xue at all.
She thought to herself, Either I’m just clueless, or Tong Xue is playing on a whole different level.
