The Cannon Fodder Stole the Male Lead’s Script GL - Chapter 47
“Tuition fees are non-refundable. Besides, Li Yue was the top student in her class and already qualified for a financial hardship waiver that covered her tuition and miscellaneous fees. Compared to other students who pay ten thousand yuan a year, she only needed to pay eight hundred for one semester. That was already a special arrangement by the school,” said the dean, clearly displeased.
“Eight hundred a semester? Then only half the semester has passed, so there should still be four hundred left, right? Let me tell you, you can expel her, but you must return the remaining tuition to me,” Li Yue’s mother crossed her arms, clearly prepared to stay until she got her money.
The school leaders were speechless.
Lan Meijuan was filled with disgust. Just moments ago she thought this woman was indifferent and bold. Now she realized she simply did not care about her daughter. All she cared about was money. As long as there was no money involved, it was fine for her daughter to kneel and apologize. But once it involved money, she became calculating.
“Enough nonsense. It’s four hundred yuan. Take the money and get out of here,” Lan Meijuan said in disgust. She pulled out four red bills from her Chanel bag and threw them at Li Yue and her mother.
Li Yue broke down in tears.
Her mother quickly scooped up the money, patted it against her palm, then smiled flirtatiously at Lan Meijuan. “Thanks, bestie.”
Lan Meijuan cursed. “Who the hell is your bestie.”
But the woman turned back to the dean. “Hurry up and process the tuition refund.”
The dean responded with silence.
Lan Meijuan also said nothing.
“What the hell is your problem? Didn’t I just give you four hundred?” Lan Meijuan was flushed with anger and rushed up to slap her, but was held back by Xin Keke.
Li Yue’s mother looked sly. “That was your money, not the school’s. You did give me four hundred, yes, but the school hasn’t returned anything yet. These are two separate matters.”
Lan Meijuan shouted, “Screw you! Are you shameless? Then give me my money back!”
“Huh? Why should I? You gave it to me.”
“Screw you!” Lan Meijuan exploded, shook off Xin Keke’s hand, and slapped Li Yue’s mother hard. She tried to snatch the money, but Li Yue’s mother gripped it tightly while shouting, “She’s hitting me! She’s trying to steal from me! Are you all just going to stand there?!”
The homeroom teacher tried to step in, but the PE teacher discreetly stopped her.
Only after Lan Meijuan had slapped both sides of Li Yue’s mother’s face red did the PE teacher allow Chen Su to step in.
Lan Meijuan managed to snatch the four hundred yuan back and cursed, “Damn it.”
She stuffed the money back into her bag.
Li Yue’s mother, after being pulled away, fell to the ground and began wailing hysterically, claiming she had been attacked and threatening to call the police if she wasn’t paid.
Lan Meijuan’s face twitched with fury. As soon as she heard more curses, she made another move to hit her, but was held back by Xin Keke.
“Mom, let it go. You’ve vented your anger, and that money is already dirty. Give it to her. Otherwise, she won’t stop.”
Lan Meijuan snorted. “Why should I give it to her? She brought this on herself. I won’t give it! If she dares say one more word, I’ll hit her again!”
“Mom! Give it to her.”
Xin Keke’s voice grew firmer.
Lan Meijuan pursed her lips, hesitated, then unwillingly pulled the four hundred yuan back out and threw it in Li Yue’s mother’s face. “Such bad luck.”
“You’ve got the money. Please go ahead and process the withdrawal.”
The dean replied, “But our school has no policy for tuition refunds.”
Xin Keke said, “Just process her withdrawal and issue a certificate. I will cover the cost.”
The dean looked to the principal, who waved a hand, signaling to let it be.
The dean went to prepare the document. Li Yue’s mother got up from the floor looking smug. Once she had the money and the certificate, she happily tucked the bills into her inner pocket.
“Let’s go.”
She glanced at the still-crying Li Yue and walked away, swaying.
But after calling several times, her daughter did not move.
She grew impatient. “I said let’s go! What are you still standing there for?!”
“I’m not going.”
The girl’s voice was small.
“What did you say?!”
“I said I’m not going!” Li Yue suddenly shouted, completely losing control. “Why should I go? Why should you take my tuition money?!”
The woman’s face turned ugly. “What now? I can’t take your tuition? Who paid for your schooling, huh? You don’t know?!”
“Is this your money? I earned every cent of it by washing dishes in hotels! Since I was little, have you ever given me a single coin?!” Li Yue screamed.
Tears streamed down her face.
She always spoke softly and politely at school. She had never shown such ferocity. But now, she could not hold back.
“You refused to let me attend school since primary school. Grandma paid my fees behind your back. After she died, you insisted on pulling me out. I only managed to continue because I kept ranking top of the class and earned scholarships and financial aid.”
“To save those few thousand yuan, I had to study every day in a house full of drinking, smoking, and gambling men, stuffing earplugs into my ears. Did you ever care about me? Did you ever try to help me even once? Never. You only know how to chase men and scam them for money. You even hoped I would fail so I could stay and help you run your gambling den. Ask yourself, are you punishing me, or are you just punishing the version of yourself who threw her life away? You gave up on yourself, and now you want to drag me down too!”
Li Yue struggled to breathe, her chest rising and falling in ragged bursts.
She wiped her tears and continued.
“When I was in primary school, you taught me how to approach wealthy classmates. Every time I brought home a gift from someone else, you were thrilled. You kept using your twisted values to educate me. Get close to rich people. Squeeze money out of them. As long as I could bring home money or valuable gifts, you stopped saying anything about school. Only then would you act like a mother and show me affection.”
“That is why, in third grade, I knew how to slip something into Jiang Yun’s drink to make her so sick she nearly collapsed. I carried her to the nurse’s office to build a connection and became her best friend because the gifts she gave me casually helped me survive primary school.”
“When I reached high school, I approached Xin Keke. After distancing myself from Jiang Yun, she became my backup. Thanks to her support, I could live decently at school.”
“Even my feelings for Yan Kuo were calculated. He was the richest and most handsome guy in school. Only by holding onto that lifeline could I turn my life around.”
“To remove obstacles, I spread rumors about Jiang Yun’s bad temper and poor character so no one would befriend her. I needed to be her only friend.”
“I pretended to be innocent so that Xin Keke would feel protective and stand up for me.”
“I even arranged for someone to teach Zhan Rao a lesson just so I could be with Yan Kuo.”
She confessed every wrong she had done.
Sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.
“Do you know what these years have been like for me? Every time I deliberately got close to someone, I felt disgusted with myself. But every time I brought home a gift from someone else and saw your happy face, I thought it was worth it. I lived in that torture every single day until I became this wreck!”
“It is all because of you. You hated me. You wanted to ruin me. Now that I am like this, are you finally satisfied?!”
Her mother glared at her with a vicious expression and slapped her. “Shut up!”
Blood appeared at the corner of Li Yue’s mouth. She sneered. “Go ahead and hit me. Even if you beat me to death, I will keep talking. The one you really hate is not me. You hate yourself. You ran off with someone and got kicked out by Grandpa and Grandma. Later Dad left you too. You were left with no choice but to have me. You could not go to school. You had no future. So you became a woman who clings to men and lives as a mistress.”
Another slap landed.
But Li Yue did not stop. “You are jealous that I can still attend school. You never treated me like a daughter. I was just your enemy.”
Slap after slap.
“So what if you keep hurting me? After everything you did to ruin me, will you go back to the past? Never! Zhen Yulan, you will always be a failure. A wretched woman. You will rot in this hell forever.”
Zhen Yulan, eyes red with rage, raised her hand to strike again. But Li Yue caught her.
Then Li Yue slapped her mother hard across the face.
“You do not need to ruin me anymore. I am not going back.”
She unbuttoned her collar and tore off her uniform.
The Yinchuan High School uniform landed on the floor.
She stepped on the school crest embroidered in gold thread and walked out of the principal’s office with her head held high and tears in her eyes.
Zhen Yulan collapsed to the ground and, after her daughter left, burst into wailing sobs.
——
No one expected what happened in the principal’s office.
In the end, the principal stuck to fairness and enforced the rules. Li Yue was expelled, and the incident was reported to the whole school.
Li Yue did not even go back to pack her books. She left Yinchuan High immediately.
No one knew where she would go or what she would do.
As soon as the matter ended, Lan Meijuan and her husband prepared to leave, wanting to take their daughter home. But at Xin Keke’s insistence, she stayed behind for evening study.
As they walked, Lan Meijuan talked to her husband about how bizarre the mother and daughter were. She even felt a twinge of guilt for hitting Li Yue.
It was only when Xin Keke’s father reminded her, “But she did hit and deceive our daughter,” that she felt better.
Zhan Rao’s parents were worried about their child but decided to let her stay with Jiang Yun, since things were over. They returned home.
Zhan Rao, Jiang Yun, Tong Xue, and Xin Keke left the office together.
As for Zhen Yulan, she had to be dragged out by security close to the end of the school day. She cried the whole time.
That evening, her screaming echoed through the quiet school. Many students heard it.
News of the mother-daughter incident spread through the school.
Some sympathetic students felt sorry for Li Yue.
Others believed that no matter the background, a person could still choose the right path.
They said the problem was in Li Yue herself. No one forced her to hurt others.
She always shifted the blame. She never learned to reflect.
A poor background is not an excuse. What matters is your own choices.
In this world, no one is obligated to be responsible for you. Not even your parents.
And no one can stop you from trying to become better.
It all comes down to yourself.
