Standing at the doorway, Xin Keke couldn’t help but cover her face and whisper, “Mom, please be mindful of your behavior. You’re an adult. You shouldn’t be hitting children.”

Beside her, her father moved with extreme care, reaching out as if to touch the bandage on her head. His eyes were filled with heartache, nearly brimming with tears. “Keke, sweetheart, you should stop talking. You hurt your head, it must be painful. Aren’t you tired standing like that? Why don’t I carry you over to the couch to sit down?”

Xin Keke: …

Tong Xue: …

“Dad! No, that’s really not necessary! I’m not that delicate!” She carefully glanced at Tong Xue standing nearby and saw the glint of amusement in her friend’s eyes. Her face flushed red with embarrassment.

Her father’s fussy and overly cautious demeanor only made her feel more flustered and helpless.

“Dad, please don’t worry about me right now. You need to stop Mom before things get worse!”

She was genuinely concerned that the school might not have even begun addressing Li Yue’s actions yet, and her mother could end up getting arrested for assault.

But her father remained wholly focused on her. “Don’t worry about your mom. She’s probably just furious and needs to vent.”

Sure enough, Lan Meijuan was still shouting furiously.

“You little brat! I already heard your name from my precious daughter! Ha! I knew back then that you were an ungrateful little traitor. And sure enough, I was right! With that disgusting, sneaky face of yours, you actually dared to lay a hand on my daughter? You’ve got some nerve! You shameless, vile little thing! You backstabber! My daughter gave you her heart, treated you like family, and this is how you repay her? Do you even have a conscience? Are you even human?!”

Lan Meijuan cursed as she jabbed her sharp fingernail at Li Yue’s cheek and forehead.

Lan Meijuan was tall, and she wore high heels. Although she was slim, she had surprising strength. She loomed over Li Yue, poking at her like she was scolding a helpless chick.

Li Yue staggered under the force and could barely stand.

She looked pleadingly at Chen Su for help, but even Chen Su didn’t dare intervene.

It was the PE teacher who finally stepped forward and tried to stop Lan Meijuan. However, she shook him off effortlessly.

The PE teacher stared at his empty hands in stunned silence.

“Get out of the way! I’m not done yet! They bullied my daughter like this, and you think I’m just going to let it slide?!”

“Ma’am, we are already handling the matter. Please don’t continue yelling or hitting people in the office. This is very inappropriate,” the dean said. She was a composed and well-mannered female teacher, known for always teaching students to avoid foul language. But even she could no longer tolerate Lan Meijuan’s verbal tirade.

Lan Meijuan spat. “What’s more inappropriate? Me yelling in the office or your school’s complete lack of management that let this brat gang up on my daughter? You should be grateful I haven’t torn her face apart or broken her fingers!”

The principal and other teachers stood frozen.

Who was this woman? She was unbelievably fierce.

No one dared to step forward again.

Xin Keke pressed her hand to her forehead, feeling a headache coming on.

She quickly urged her father to pull her mother back.

Thankfully, no matter how explosive Lan Meijuan’s temper was, she still listened to her husband. When he called out to her, she finally stopped talking.

However, her glare toward Li Yue remained sharp and intense.

Li Yue looked utterly terrified.

The principal took a deep breath, clearly summoning all her courage to address the situation. She stepped forward and spoke, though she only dared to stand close to Zhan Rao’s parents and kept a wide distance from Lan Meijuan.

“Now that both sets of parents are here, and you are both representing children who have been harmed, may I ask how you would like to proceed with resolving this matter?”

Lan Meijuan let out a cold laugh. “Resolve it? That’s simple. My daughter was injured by that brat, so let her get the same treatment. Let’s see if she dares to try it again.”

Xin Keke’s father quickly tugged at his wife’s arm. “Darling, that won’t work. Hitting others is against the law.”

Lan Meijuan replied, “If it’s illegal, then fine. Don’t ask me. Just call the police and have them arrest that brat.”

The principal coughed awkwardly and turned to Zhan Rao’s parents.

“What are your thoughts on this?”

Zhan Rao’s mother looked serious. “She’s just a child. We’ll wait to discuss it until her parents arrive.”

The principal adjusted her glasses and nodded. “Understood.”

Another thirty minutes passed before Li Yue’s mother finally arrived.

As soon as she stepped inside, a strong stench of alcohol and tobacco filled the room.

The woman was slender and not very tall, but had a curvy figure. Her features bore a strong resemblance to Li Yue’s, though her sharper face and heavy makeup gave her a harsher, more abrasive look. Compared to Li Yue’s slightly chubby, youthful features, this woman’s appearance carried an air of forced sophistication that felt cheap.

She wore a qipao with a thigh-high slit, and the smell of low-quality perfume mixed with smoke clung to her. Her curled hair was dyed a faded blonde and pinned up in a messy bun, dry and frizzy.

Her makeup was meticulously applied, but the products were clearly cheap, giving her a gaudy, inexpensive appearance.

She sauntered in with exaggerated sway.

“What’s with the five or six phone calls? Are you trying to summon a ghost or something?” she complained irritably. Her eyes swept the room and quickly landed on Li Yue, who was hiding behind Chen Su. Noticing the stares from everyone around, she let out a cold, indifferent laugh.

“What’s going on here? Did my girl win an award or something? Is there money involved?”

Everyone fell silent.

Jiang Yun, who had been watching quietly, frowned.

Xin Keke’s brows were tightly furrowed.

Li Yue lowered her head, her cheeks burning with shame, while her hands curled tightly into trembling fists.

The principal and her staff had already formed a negative impression of Li Yue’s mother. They could not be bothered to speak with her directly, so the principal signaled to Chen Su to handle it. Chen Su wanted to refuse but had no choice.

“Good afternoon, Ms. Li. I am Chen Su, Li Yue’s homeroom teacher. We called you repeatedly because your daughter violated several school rules. She joined with some students from another school to attack one of our students, Zhan Rao. Then, during PE today, she led some older students to corner another classmate in the restroom and caused a head injury.”

The woman sitting on the couch with her legs crossed finally showed a change in expression.

She glanced around at the other parents and understood the situation.

“We don’t have money. Our family is poor. We can’t afford compensation.”

The principal and teachers were stunned.

None of them expected her to respond like that.

Lan Meijuan was furious. “Who the hell said we wanted your money?!”

“Even better. If you don’t want money, then go ahead and do whatever you want with that girl,” Li Yue’s mother said with a shrug, acting like none of this concerned her.

Lan Meijuan, enraged, almost lunged forward again. Her husband barely managed to restrain her.

She raised her arm and jabbed her finger forward, her entire body shaking with fury. “I’ve seen shameless people before, but never anything like this. Listen up. I want your daughter to kneel and apologize to my baby right now.”

Li Yue’s mother raised her brows. “Sure.”

She clapped her hands, lowered her crossed legs, stood up, and beckoned Li Yue over.

Li Yue stiffened when her mother gestured to her.

“Come here.”

“Mom…”

Li Yue gulped nervously.

She shuffled over hesitantly.

Her mother crossed her arms and tilted her chin upward. “Didn’t you hear her? Kneel.”

Li Yue burst into tears. “Mom, I don’t want to…”

Smack! Her mother raised her pointed heel and kicked Li Yue hard in the knee. Li Yue cried out in pain and dropped to her knees.

Before she could say another word, her mother grabbed her hair and slammed her head down three times in front of Xin Keke.

Then she turned to Lan Meijuan and asked, “Satisfied now? Anything else?”

Lan Meijuan stood frozen, completely thrown off.

She was always outspoken and brash, but she had always believed in the idea that kneeling was a grave act. She had never seen someone kneel so easily and boldly. It left her speechless.

“Anything else?”

Li Yue’s mother looked to Zhan Rao’s parents next.

The Zhans were kind people to begin with, and now they were at a complete loss for what to say.

The atmosphere in the room grew increasingly awkward. Even the teachers did not know what to do.

The only sound was Li Yue sobbing uncontrollably.

“Um, Ms. Li, this is not the proper way to resolve matters,” the principal said after a long pause.

Li Yue’s mother chuckled. “Then how do you want to resolve it? Principal, go ahead and tell me. But let me be clear, if she needs to kneel, she’ll kneel. If she needs to kowtow, she’ll kowtow. If she needs to be punished, go ahead. But if you’re talking about money, not a single cent will come from me. I don’t have any.”

The principal was speechless.

How could someone like this exist?

Everyone present was an educator, dedicated to shaping young minds. Yet none of them had ever encountered someone this shameless. They truly had no idea how to communicate with her.

The room remained silent for a long while.

Then, suddenly, Tong Xue spoke.

“Let’s follow the proper procedures. Xin Keke and Zhan Rao’s families don’t seem to be asking for compensation. According to school rules, Article 28 states that students must not engage in violent or exclusionary behavior toward others. The punishment is an official warning. Article 38 states that anyone who organizes a group to engage in physical conflict will be expelled. Li Yue meets both conditions. When considered together, the punishment would be expulsion.”

The staff members were momentarily stunned.

The dean quickly checked the school rules and nodded. “That’s correct.”

The principal hesitated. Expelling a student was a serious matter. It required reporting to the education bureau.

Lan Meijuan snapped back to her senses. “I agree! If she broke the rules, she has no place in this school!”

Zhan Rao’s mother also nodded. “Expel her. We are fine without compensation but we are worried about what would happen if something like this occurred again. Who would we turn to then?”

With both families in agreement, the principal had no further room to object.

Li Yue, still kneeling, was stunned.

“No, no, I can’t be expelled! I can’t drop out! Mom, please help me. I don’t want to leave school…”

But her mother kicked away her reaching hand in disgust. “Get away from me! We wasted all that money on your education, and you still turned out useless. Pack up and come home to help me work.”

She turned to the principal. “Let’s settle it like that. But can I get a refund on her tuition? The semester isn’t even halfway through yet.”

The principal and all the teachers: …
