In the adjacent area, Yan Kuo also heard the notification indicating that the romance progress had been updated.

He opened the task panel, and when he saw that bright red ten percent, he froze for a moment. Then he lifted his lips in satisfaction.

Although his perfectly planned encounter that morning had not gone particularly well, he was still the male lead. The female lead naturally had some affection for him. Even though she had not looked at him once, just by being near her, he must have stirred her heart. It had to be that the female lead in this story was shy, so she did not show it openly. But data never lies.

He thought to himself, this romance progress had clearly advanced to ten percent.

Feeling smug, he adjusted his collar twice and prepared to push that progress even further. Once he achieved that, his negative luck value would finally become positive. With better luck, everything would begin to go smoothly.

Yan Kuo muttered to himself, “Let this male lead see what the next task is.”

He scrolled down with his finger, but then his hand stopped abruptly. His pupils widened in disbelief.

Displayed on the task panel was the following line:

[Current Task: 1. Have a chance encounter with the female lead in the library, and both reach for the same book. Prompt the female lead to say the phrase, ‘How flashy.’ Then sit and study together.]

“What the hell is this?!”

“How flashy?” He repeated the phrase in disbelief. Was the task asking the female lead to say that to him?

How on earth was he supposed to complete this task?

He looked at the next one:

[2. Help the female lead solve several math problems. Problem 1: ****; Problem 2: ***; Problem 3: **** …]

Yan Kuo was stunned. Where were the answers? He clearly remembered hearing the answers during the system’s audio briefing the day before. So where were they now?

He tapped the system interface again and again, but it remained completely unresponsive.

Frustrated, he slammed his fist on the table and cursed, “Stupid system! It’s always glitching!”

His voice rang out loudly in the otherwise quiet library, drawing sharp glares from several people.

This was a library, where many relied on the silence to study and work. Yan Kuo, in stark contrast to the quiet around him, behaved as though he had completely lost control. He continued shouting without pause, disturbing the entire area. People around him had had enough. One person walked up and knocked on his desk.

“Student, please be quiet. Otherwise, we’ll have to ask you to leave.”

Yan Kuo swallowed his frustration. He could not afford to be kicked out. If that happened, the task would be doomed.

He glanced at his current luck value, which had just climbed to -0.5. With gritted teeth, he forced himself to calm down.

Still, he thought to himself, someone had better explain how to complete this absurd task.

In Area B’s study room, Zhan Rao was tutoring Jiang Yun in math. She began by going over the week’s material on sets, connecting the key concepts and using prepared example questions to clarify them. Jiang Yun listened attentively.

Whether it was because of the progress in her mission to change fate, or simply because Zhan Rao’s teaching was excellent, Jiang Yun found herself understanding everything easily. It felt nothing like the confusing lectures she was used to in class.

The concepts became clear and easy to grasp under Zhan Rao’s explanations.

As she listened, Jiang Yun took notes and doodled in her notebook. When something was unclear, she asked questions.

In less than half an hour, she had mastered the entire week’s content. When Zhan Rao quizzed her, she could even apply the concepts to new problems.

Zhan Rao was amazed. “You’re really talented. I don’t understand how you used to score so poorly.”

Jiang Yun smiled, biting her pen. “Maybe my past teachers weren’t as good as you.”

The compliment made Zhan Rao’s face flush bright red.

“You can’t say that. Our teachers are very good. You probably just didn’t pay attention in class,” she replied, trying to scold her while sounding just a little proud.

Jiang Yun nodded with a grin. “That’s true. But those teachers weren’t as cute, as pretty, or as captivating as our little Teacher Zhan.”

The more Zhan Rao blushed, the more Jiang Yun wanted to tease her.

Zhan Rao turned an even deeper red. She glared at Jiang Yun playfully and stood up. “Stop messing with me. I’m going to get a book. I’ll be right back. You stay here and finish these questions.”

“Okay, okay. I’ll do the homework and wait for little Teacher Zhan to come grade it.”

“If you don’t get them all right, prepare for punishment,” Zhan Rao said with a sparkle in her eyes. Her tone was meant to be threatening, but it came off more like gentle teasing.

It made Jiang Yun’s heart flutter.

But obediently doing homework? That was never going to happen.

Watching Zhan Rao walk away, Jiang Yun chuckled to herself.

She still wanted to see what kind of stunt Yan Kuo would pull in order to appear “flashy.”

Zhan Rao patted her cheeks, trying to shake off the flustered feelings stirred up by Jiang Yun’s flirtation. She took deep breaths as she walked, gradually calming down.

She regretted asking Jiang Yun to study together. Her heart had been thumping uncontrollably all morning. If this continued, she would be completely overwhelmed.

She walked up to the second floor of the library and headed to the high school math section.

She had come to the library hoping to find answers to some math problems she had downloaded online. She had been unable to solve them and could not find solutions online either. The problems were supposedly from a past year’s Math Olympiad. She came to search for the test paper or similar examples.

As she browsed the shelves, she did not notice that Yan Kuo had also come to this section.

When she spotted a book titled “Olympiad Mathematics Collection,” she reached out to grab it. At that exact moment, another hand touched the book.

She turned to see that it was Yan Kuo. Her brows immediately furrowed.

Yan Kuo held the book while darting his eyes around. His lips moved silently, as though rehearsing something.

The moment she saw him, Zhan Rao instinctively wanted to get away from this bizarre classmate. But the book was in his hands, so she was forced to speak.

“Yan Kuo, could I use that book first? I need to check a few problems.”

To her surprise, Yan Kuo did not respond.

Unwilling to give up, Zhan Rao bit her lip and asked again, “Yan Kuo?”

Then, Yan Kuo moved. But instead of handing her the book, he looked around, and seeing no one nearby, stood directly in front of her and stared into her eyes.

Zhan Rao’s heart raced in alarm. She began to step back.

“Yan… Yan Kuo, what are you trying to do?”

Yan Kuo lifted the book horizontally and bit down on it. Then, he slowly began to unzip his jacket in front of her.

As the zipper came down, it revealed an eye-searing purple lace mesh shirt with a butterfly bow. The open area showed two pink and red spots peeking through the netting. Zhan Rao’s eyes nearly popped out of her head.

Her lips trembled. She could barely speak. “Y-you-you…”

Yan Kuo pulled the book from his mouth, ran his tongue across the title page, and gazed at her seductively. “Zhan, what do you think of me?”

Zhan Rao lost all composure. Her voice cracked as she screamed, “You maniac!”

Yan Kuo blinked and adjusted the book. “No, I mean, how do I look? Just describe it in three words.”

He gestured to himself, pointing at the mesh shirt beneath his open jacket.

He had even asked his driver to buy it for him. He had gone to all this trouble. He could not let the task fail.

“Just three words. That’s all.”

“Crazy freak!”

Zhan Rao was on the verge of tears. She covered her eyes and backed away in fear.

“Stay away from me!”

People nearby had heard her scream. They rushed over and found a girl crying against a bookshelf and a male student standing nearby with his back to them.

Someone asked urgently, “What happened?”

Zhan Rao ran behind the newcomers and pointed at Yan Kuo. “That guy is a maniac! He’s a pervert!”

They turned to see Yan Kuo with his jacket open, revealing the lurid mesh shirt with a purple bow.

Yan Kuo had not processed what was happening. Seeing the crowd, he still did not zip up his jacket. He simply held his hands out helplessly.

“Zhan Rao, you didn’t have to react like this. I just wanted a description. That’s all.”

One of the onlookers had had enough. He grabbed Yan Kuo, twisted his arms behind his back, and dragged him away.

“You little punk, learning all the wrong things. Dressing like this and harassing a girl.”

Yan Kuo shouted in protest, “I wasn’t harassing anyone! She’s my classmate. We go to school together. I just wanted her to describe me.”

The man scowled and kicked him. “Didn’t she describe you? A maniac! Dressing like this and creeping out girls. Come with me to the police station. I’ve seen enough punks who harass girls just because they can’t get a date.”

With that outfit and behavior, even ten mouths would not be enough to explain himself.

[Ding~ #Chance Encounter with Female Lead# task failed. Luck -0.5; #Help Female Lead Solve Problems# task failed. Luck -0.5.]

[Total Luck: -1.5]

The system notification sounded utterly defeated. Yan Kuo felt like his soul had left his body.

Just then, Jiang Yun arrived.

Seeing Yan Kuo in the mesh shirt with the purple bow around his neck, she nearly burst into laughter.

Yan Kuo spotted her like a drowning man sees a lifeline. “Jiang Yun! Help me! They think I’m a pervert and want to take me to the police. Tell them I’m not!”

Jiang Yun covered her mouth and spoke between fits of laughter. “Yan Kuo, I’ve known you for so many years, and I never imagined… that you had such unique tastes. But don’t worry. I’ll notify your family so they can come bail you out.”

Yan Kuo: …

Dead.
