Guess what? Free chapters are dropping every Sunday and Friday!  These chapters are a bit longer than what I usually translate, so get ready for an adventure!

Jiang Yun opened her eyes and found herself staring once again at the familiar crystal chandelier crafted by the renowned French designer, Fé Léon. Nearby were the custom wall fabrics she had personally doodled and sent to her own company for production. Draped across the sofa was her freshly pressed new school uniform in dark ink-blue, neatly laid out by the helpers.

Only then did she realize—she was still sixteen, still a student in Class 1, Grade 10 at Yinchuan High School.

So that was just a dream?

She couldn’t recall the details—people, events, all a blur. What she did remember was that it was like she had fallen into a novel. In that world, she had been nothing more than a cannon-fodder. She had the role of a rich and beautiful heiress but was madly in love with the male lead, jealous of the female protagonist. In the end, the heroine outwitted her, leaving her disgraced and forced to drop out of school.

Jiang Yun rubbed her temples, amused.

What a bizarre dream. Even if I were the type to be cynical and jaded, I wouldn’t be senseless enough to go around provoking a little girl until I ruined my own life.

The dream had felt real but still, it was only a dream. She couldn’t even recall anyone’s face.

Jiang Yun lifted the silk comforter off herself. Her long, pale, straight legs stretched out beneath her. But on one leg, a pale brown scar stood out glaringly.

That scar came from the summer holiday, when she’d pestered Yan Kuo to take her to his family’s mountain villa. She’d fallen during the trip and rolled down a slope.

That tumble had kept her in bed for half a month and it ruined the perfection of her legs, which made her frown slightly.

More importantly, she couldn’t, for the life of her, figure out why she had been so desperate to tag along with Yan Kuo back then. His villa wasn’t even half the size of her family’s estate. It was cramped, poorly equipped, and in a remote location.

What was I thinking? Going there to feed mosquitoes?

After getting dressed, Jiang Yun went downstairs. The helper had already prepared breakfast—but it was packed, and there were two portions.

Jiang Yun: ?

The helper explained, “Miss, last night you said you wanted to bring an extra one for Young Master Yan, so you could have breakfast together at school.”

She knew Yinchuan High had a designated time for breakfast after morning reading.

But why would she bring breakfast for Yan Kuo?

Did his family go bankrupt and now he couldn’t afford breakfast?

“Throw it out.”

The helper froze, then lowered her head. “Yes, Miss.”

Jiang Yun frowned. “Wait.” She glanced at the refined breakfast set, hesitated a moment, and said, “Actually, take it with me.”

The helper asked, “Then… is it for Young Master Yan?”

“No.”

Not only did she decide not to bring breakfast for Yan Kuo, she also told the driver to head straight to school without making a detour to pick him up.

The driver was too afraid to ask why. Until now, Miss had always insisted on picking up Young Master Yan before heading to school together.

But today, the young lady was acting very… out of character.

Yan Kuo waited outside his house for half an hour, but the Bentley from the Jiang family never showed. It wasn’t until the butler reminded him he was about to be late that he rushed to have his own driver take him.

When he arrived at school, Yan Kuo’s face was dark with fury. He marched straight toward Class 1, Grade 10 to confront Jiang Yun.

The moment students in Class 1 saw Yan Kuo, excitement rippled through the classroom.

Yan Kuo—the sole heir to the Yan Corporation. Handsome, tall, with a god-tier face and a genius brain. He scored nearly perfect marks in every subject.

He was the dream boy of nearly every girl at school.

Of course, everyone also knew that Jiang Yun, heiress of the Jiang family in Class 1, liked him. And with her around, no one dared openly flirt with Yan Kuo unless they didn’t care about staying at Yinchuan High.

But everyone also knew that Yan Kuo didn’t like Jiang Yun. In fact, many girls who resented Jiang Yun took satisfaction in the fact that Yan Kuo never returned her affections.

So now, seeing him storming toward her, the class couldn’t wait to watch the drama unfold.

The boy scowled, irritation and superiority laced in his voice. “Jiang Yun, what’s the meaning of this?”

Jiang Yun, who had been chatting with her pretty desk mate, frowned as a black leather schoolbag landed in front of her. She looked up, her gaze cool and aloof as it swept over the boy.

Something in Yan Kuo’s chest tightened under her stare.

No doubt about it—Jiang Yun was stunning. So beautiful it hit you in your bones. Her eyes were like starry skies when she smiled, and like ancient amber when she didn’t—glowing and mysterious.

But she was too sharp, too overpowering. Yan Kuo had always found it hard to handle. Besides, he knew he was the male lead in this world, destined for a heroine far more dazzling than her. Jiang Yun was just a stepping stone on his path to greatness. So, over the years, he hadn’t outright rejected her but he never gave her hope either.

“Why didn’t you pick me up today?”

Jiang Yun stared at him and suddenly burst out laughing. Leaning against her doll-like deskmate’s shoulder, she said, “What? Did the Yan family go bankrupt? Can’t even afford a car for you now? Do you have to rely on my family’s car?”

Yan Kuo froze, completely unprepared for that response.

And the mocking glances from nearby classmates only made his face darken further.

“You’ve always picked me up just fine before! Why not today? Do you realize you made me late?”

Jiang Yun folded her arms and looked at him like he was an idiot. “And what does your being late have to do with me? I pick you up if I want to. If I don’t want to, I don’t. Don’t tell me you think I owe you something and should be your helper for life?”

She stopped just short of calling him shameless but everyone got the message loud and clear.

The sounds of “tsk tsk” around them only deepened Yan Kuo’s humiliation.

“Fine, Jiang Yun! Just you wait! Even if you beg me to get in your car, I won’t!”

With that, he grabbed his bag and stormed off.

As soon as he left, Jiang Yun acted like nothing happened. She turned back to chat with her pretty little deskmate again. How had she never noticed how adorable this girl was before? Those big shiny eyes, that sweet smile, those soft chubby cheeks—they look like they’d feel amazing!

News that Jiang Yun ditched Yan Kuo spread like wildfire from Class 1.

Ninety percent of Yinchuan High’s students had come up from its junior high branch. It was a school for the elite—either rich or brilliant. Only a handful entered through scholarship.

So, everyone already knew the whole saga between Jiang Yun and Yan Kuo.

In fact, her failed pursuit of him had long become a running joke at school. But today, that joke flipped into a satisfying reversal—and everyone was watching with popcorn.

But that wasn’t all.

Along with the news that Jiang Yun had given Yan Kuo the cold shoulder, another story was quickly making the rounds—

A new transfer student had arrived in Class 18, Grade 10.

She was even prettier than Jiang Yun.

Her name was Zhan Rao.
