- Chapter 97 - Because I’m a Love-Brain, My Boyfriend Being a Pervert Doesn’t Matter (End)
This was the first time Lu Sheng realized that he, too, could be indulged and cherished so unconditionally. Just thinking about how Bai Yao had given all her favoritism to him made him so excited that his whole body trembled.
That’s why he could be so sure; he couldn’t live without her.
Bai Yao raised her hand to wrap around his neck and gently asked, “You filled the basement of my house, but did you ever think that if I couldn’t return to the past, no one would be able to get you out of the basement?”
Lu Sheng lowered his head and rubbed his face against hers, smiling easily as he said, “It’s okay. Even if I can’t leave the basement, at most, it’s just death.”
He said the word “death” with a calm tone, but Bai Yao’s eyes stung, and her whole heart felt as though it had been clenched tight.
Lu Sheng’s smile faded, and his black eyes were filled with guilt and remorse. “Yao Yao, I failed to protect you. I was too arrogant. I thought I could shield you from all of that. I should have been more cautious.”
What he did was far from enough, which was why she ended up witnessing such a bloody and cruel scene.
The moment she woke up, she had screamed, “I must kill you!” with such sorrow and despair.
He should have protected her well. Neither “sorrow” nor “despair” should have appeared on her.
But the truth was that he hadn’t protected her.
All the emotions Bai Yao had been holding back finally erupted. She buried herself in his arms and sobbed, “At that time, if I hadn’t taken you to find her… or if I had been more vigilant and not drunk that cup of tea… or maybe… maybe if I had gotten to the house earlier to bring you out…”
Lu Sheng said in a low voice, “Yao Yao, none of this is your fault. What’s happened in the past can’t be changed by anyone.”
Bai Yao raised her tear-filled eyes and kept sobbing, “But… Lu Sheng, I wasn’t by your side then. You-you must have been in so much pain…”
He gently cupped her face and said with a radiant smile, “Who remembers things from so long ago? I only remember the happiness you’ve brought me now.”
He smiled brightly, dazzlingly, not much different from the first time they met on the basketball court. But Bai Yao clearly saw the glimmer of tears in his eyes.
When she was consumed by guilt and self-blame, wasn’t he feeling the same?
She believed she hadn’t protected him well, just as he believed he hadn’t protected her either.
But these past days, he had been pretending to be cheerful and optimistic, comforting her, coaxing her, and had never lost control of his emotions like she did.
All of a sudden, Bai Yao understood that she couldn’t go on being so downcast. She sat up straight and hugged him tightly, taking a few minutes to steady her emotions.
She laughed through her tears. “Lu Sheng, from now on, we must always be happy. We… We still have such a long journey ahead of us. If there are people who don’t want to see us happy, then we’ll become even happier, and… and make them die from anger!”
As she spoke, her voice broke again with sobs, making her words choppy and interrupted.
His chin rested on the top of her head, and he let out a laugh. His chest vibrated with joy, and even though he was choking back sobs, his voice carried a smile as he said, “Mm, we’ll be very, very happy, and then make them die from anger!”
It was as if his body could no longer contain his love for her. That overflowing feeling compelled him to keep kissing her body, but even that wasn’t enough. With every kiss he placed, he would murmur, “Yao Yao, I love you. I love you so much. I love you so, so much…”
His love surged like a tide, far beyond what mere words could express.
Bai Yao held his head, buried against her chest, as if she were cradling a warm, gentle sunlight that did not burn.
This time, she was cooperative and didn’t suddenly burst into tears like before.
On a night accompanied by the breeze and the bright moon, the young lovers clung to each other as if seeking warmth on a winter’s night. Only in a complete and seamless entanglement could they be sure that the other was truly there.
In the days that followed, they stayed wrapped up in each other inside the room, neither taking a single step outside.
In the group chat of the “Friendly Neighborhood,” people had started placing bets on when this insatiable young couple would finally emerge.
【 I bet they can last a while longer. 】
【 No way, with Miss Bai’s skinny arms and legs, I doubt she can take much more. 】
【 What if they’re both enjoying it, though? 】
Xiao Hei: 【 Meow meow. 】
Xiao Xiong: 【 Xiao Hei is right. 】
【 Wait—what?! Even cats can type now!? 】
I Have a Wife Now: 【 @Shunfeng Express, come and help me deliver a package. 】
The group chat instantly fell silent.
After a long pause, Shunfeng Express replied: 【 On it! 】
Bai Yao sat on the balcony, basking in the sun. She glanced at the chat messages but remained silent, not intending to let the innocent and sweet residents know she had joined the group long ago.
She leisurely ate a slice of strawberry cake made for her by Lu Sheng. It wasn’t overly sweet, just to her taste. Looking down, she could see Lu Sheng downstairs.
A man wearing the driver’s uniform arrived in less than a minute. “Mr. Lu, what would you like to send?”
Lu Sheng was dressed simply in a white shirt and black trousers, which made his legs look long and straight. For comfort, he had left the top button of his shirt undone, revealing bold red marks across his neck and collarbones.
His sleeves were slightly rolled up, and the strong forearms beneath were marked with scars that could no longer be erased. If Lu Sheng had once appeared to the world with a bright and cheerful image, now his temperament was much more languid.
This young man’s entire being exuded an air of decadence, as though he had been thoroughly and fiercely loved.
The driver’s eye twitched, feeling it was unbearable to watch.
Lu Sheng, however, seemed completely unaware. He casually pointed to a nearby box and smiled politely. “Please help me send this.”
The driver took the note, glanced at the recipient and address, and quickly said, “Sure!”
Up on the balcony, Bai Yao received a call from He Cai. She had taken sick leave from school for the past few days, and He Cai was worried she had come down with something serious.
Bai Yao replied that she’d be back at school tomorrow. Then, He Cai immediately launched into gossip, “Yao Yao, you probably don’t know since you’ve been gone, but Nangong, Ximen, Beitang, and that Su Youyou have all mysteriously disappeared!”
Bai Yao asked, “Disappeared?”
“Yeah! Weren’t they always shouting about ghosts? Now they’ve all vanished all of a sudden, and everyone’s saying they’re probably dead. Isn’t that how horror movies go? The ones who see ghosts get scared and mentally break down, and then the ghost kills them all!”
He Cai shivered and said, “So creepy. Good thing I never hung out with them. Everyone’s really scared now.”
If it were before, Bai Yao might have felt a bit emotional hearing this, but now, she felt no ripples at all. Even she began to wonder if she had become a bit cold-hearted.
He Cai chatted a bit more about this and that, then reminded Bai Yao to rest well and promised to hang out once she returned to school.
【 Congratulations to the Host for completing the task. Do you choose to leave this world… 】
Bai Yao only glanced at it lightly and didn’t even finish reading the rest. Without hesitation, she chose “No.”
Downstairs, the driver left with the box in his arms.
Lu Sheng didn’t rush back inside. Instead, he crouched down and picked a few of the most beautiful blooming roses. The moment he looked up, his eyes met the gaze of the girl standing on the balcony.
He stood up, his smile radiant, and in his shining eyes, there was room for no one else but her. “Yao Yao, today I’m making rose pastries for you!”
Bai Yao rested her chin in her hands, smiling sweetly. “Okay.”
Just like him, her curved smiling eyes held no one but him.
Why did she choose “No”?
Because Lu Sheng couldn’t live without her, and she couldn’t bear to leave him behind.
Such a simple reason was more than enough.
