- Chapter 92 - Because I’m a Love-Brain, My Boyfriend Being a Pervert Doesn’t Matter XXIV
Outside, lightning and thunder still raged, the wind howled, and the rain poured. Only a faint glimmer of light could be seen, but in the storm-tossed darkness, even that faint light seemed to be luring travelers into the jaws of a beast.
Bai Yao let down the curtain and looked at her phone again; there was still no signal. She glanced behind her.
The little boy was sitting obediently on the sofa, completely still, his big dark eyes staring straight at her.
His wound was still bleeding.
Bai Yao thought of the man in the white coat. He was probably a doctor. There might be a medical kit in the house. She walked over to the boy and said, “Wait here for me, I’m going to find something to bandage your wound.”
The boy blinked his dark eyes but didn’t say anything.
Afraid he might be scared, Bai Yao reached into her pocket. She didn’t find any candy, but instead pulled out a little toy, a black Grim Reaper holding a scythe.
Is this kind of toy a bit too mature for a child?
As Bai Yao hesitated, he suddenly asked, “Are you giving it to me?”
Bai Yao smiled. “Yes.”
He glanced at the thing in her hand and said, “It’s ugly.”
Bai Yao gave his hair a little tousle. “Ugly? This is a Grim Reaper! I’m someone blessed by the Grim Reaper. If I give it to you, you’ll be protected by the Grim Reaper, too. No one will dare hurt you.”
He stared at it for a while, then slowly stretched out his hand and accepted the ugly little toy.
Bai Yao said, “It’ll keep you company here while I go look for something.”
But just as she turned around, she heard a sound behind her. She looked back and saw that the boy had already stepped barefoot onto the floor and was following her.
He held the toy disrespectfully by one leg and looked up at her in silence.
Bai Yao was defeated. She sighed. “Alright, let’s go together.”
She picked him up. Compared to the first time she held him, when his whole body was stiff, now he wrapped his arms around her neck on his own, rested his chin on her shoulder, and looked down silently at the floor with lowered eyes.
Bai Yao didn’t waste much time. She found a medical kit in the upstairs bedroom.
They sat together on the bed. Bai Yao cleaned the wound on his hand with a cotton swab, disinfected it, and then gently wrapped it with gauze.
Afraid of hurting him, she was very careful with every movement. Leaning in close, she carefully examined the wound. When she finally finished treating it, she let out a breath of relief.
She noticed that his gaze hadn’t moved in a long time. Following it, she saw that he was staring at the strawberry pendant dangling in mid-air from her neck.
Its bright, vivid red color is something most kids probably like.
She asked, “Do you like it?”
His gaze shifted slowly, and he gave a small nod.
Bai Yao took off the necklace and hung it around his neck. “It’s yours. You have to take good care of it from now on, alright?”
He looked down, stuffed the toy casually into his coat pocket, then raised a hand to touch the strawberry pendant. It felt cool to the touch, but what appeared in his eyes was a soft, warm glow.
Then he looked up, and in his deep, dark eyes, faint starlight flickered.
It seemed he truly liked it.
Bai Yao patted the top of his head and asked with a smile, “What’s your name?”
“Mom didn’t have time to give me a name. She said she would wait until Dad came back before naming me. I was taken away when I was three.”
Bai Yao was silent for a moment. “Did the doctor tell you that?”
He shook his head. “I still remember everything from before I turned three.”
Bai Yao was surprised. “You have such a good memory?”
He held the pendant on his chest in one hand, lowered his head, and said softly, “He said I was an evil child.”
Bai Yao was indignant. “That’s nonsense. You’re so adorable, there’s nothing evil about you! He’s a bad person. Don’t believe what he says.”
He raised his face, the corners of his eyes slightly curved. “Mm, I don’t believe him.”
Bai Yao was charmed by how cute he looked. She couldn’t help herself. She opened her arms and hugged him. While stroking the back of his head, she said, a bit troubled, “I can’t contact anyone right now. Let me think about what to do next.”
He seemed to really like her warmth and scent. Nestled in her arms, he gently rubbed his face against her. Then he looked up. Seeing that Bai Yao was seriously thinking and hadn’t scolded him, he relaxed even more.
Bai Yao murmured, “I should go to the police station to find an officer.”
He gently tugged at her sleeve.
Bai Yao looked down at him. “What is it?”
“I want to find my mom first.”
Bai Yao asked, “Do you know where your mom is?”
He pointed in a direction. “In that house.”
Bai Yao looked out the window. He was pointing at the house across from them. She asked him uncertainly, “Your mom lives that close?”
He nodded. “Mom doesn’t know where I am, so she hasn’t found me. I want to find her, but I was locked in the basement and couldn’t get out.”
They were so close, just a house apart, yet mother and child couldn’t see each other. Perhaps his mother never imagined that her child was actually in the neighbor’s house.
The storm outside was still fierce, and it stirred an inexplicable fear in the heart.
But looking at the boy’s innocent face, Bai Yao guessed he must be desperate to see his mother. That was only natural. If it were her, if she still remembered her childhood and had been separated from her mother for years, suffering all the while, she would want to return to her mother’s side, too.
Bai Yao rubbed the top of his head. “Alright, let’s go find your mom.”
As she stood up, the phone in her pocket fell onto the bed. He picked it up and saw the photo on the screen.
It was a young man doing a slam dunk, his figure full of youthful energy on the basketball court under the setting sun, with striking orange hair.
Bai Yao said, “That’s my boyfriend.”
The boy looked up at her, eyes full of curiosity.
She smiled. “Don’t think he’s a bad guy, okay? His hair color is a bit flashy, but I think it is beautiful, like the color of the sunset.”
Bai Yao took back her phone, carried the silent boy out of the bedroom, and spoke softly along the way. “He loves sports. He’s great at basketball and is cheerful and upbeat, always laughing. When you grow up, you should become someone positive and optimistic too.”
He asked, “What’s a boyfriend?”
“Well… It’s a boy I like who also happens to like me, so we’re together. If nothing goes wrong, he and I will be together for a lifetime.”
As Bai Yao spoke, she couldn’t help but become a bit pessimistic. She didn’t even know why she seemed to have ended up in another time and space. “He must be very sad since I suddenly disappeared. I don’t even know if I can go back… or if I’ll ever see him again.”
