- Chapter 89 - Because I’m a Love-Brain, My Boyfriend Being a Pervert Doesn’t Matter XXI
Lately, there have been some unpleasant rumors at school. All four of the school’s “princes” had run into trouble. According to gossip, Dongfang Xuan had apparently ended up at the police station and was only released after being detained for two days.
At the same time, Nangong Hao, Ximen Lie, and Beitang Jun all took leave from school and haven’t returned since. Not just those three, but even Cinderella Su Youyou has also taken time off.
So, rumors started spreading that the three guys and one girl had perhaps gone off to have a foursome.
Bai Yao wasn’t concerned about these rumors; she was busy replying to her darling boyfriend’s message, telling him she’d be heading home after class.
He Cai leaned in close to Bai Yao and whispered, “Yao Yao, want to guess what happened that made our school’s F3 all disappear?”
Bai Yao knew He Cai always had the most gossip and couldn’t be bothered to guess, so she simply said, “Who knows why they’re not at school. Don’t tell me they saw a ghost or something.”
He Cai’s eyes widened in shock. “How did you know?!”
Bai Yao looked up. “Wait, they really saw a ghost?”
He Cai nodded vigorously. “My family’s maid’s niece’s husband’s sister’s uncle’s wife works at the Nangong household. According to people from the Nangong family, Nangong Hao has been trembling with fear since he returned home that day. He stays curled up in his room every day, refusing to eat or drink, staring with his eyes wide open all night, saying a ghost keeps whispering in his ear. He almost jumped off the roof. Looks like he’s gone mad.”
Bai Yao: “Maybe he really has gone mad?”
He Cai continued, “My family’s driver’s sister’s classmate’s cousin’s older brother’s uncle works at the Ximen household. They said Ximen Lie’s gone weird, too. He stares at a wall while muttering to himself, started self-harming, and now looks emaciated like he’s possessed.”
Bai Yao: “Well… Maybe he really is possessed?”
Seeing Bai Yao’s indifferent reaction, He Cai became even more anxious. “My family’s security guard’s older brother’s wife’s sister’s husband’s cousin works at the Beitang household. They say Beitang’s turned into a total coward. One moment he says there’s someone in the mirror, the next he hears children laughing under the bed, and sometimes he says he hears cats meowing in the middle of the night. He nearly drowned himself in the bathtub. It’s like he has a split personality!”
Bai Yao nodded, “So maybe he really does have a split personality?”
He Cai got mad. “Bai Yao, why won’t you believe what I’m telling you?!”
Bai Yao put on an innocent face. “I do believe you.”
He Cai glared at her. “Then why is it that when I said they saw ghosts, you didn’t even react like you were scared?!”
Bai Yao sighed, then covered her face with both hands and said in a mock-horrified tone, “How scary! So there really are ghosts in this world? What should I do? Boo hoo hoo, what if I see a ghost too?”
Though Bai Yao’s acting was perfunctory, He Cai still felt somewhat validated and also covered her face, fearfully saying, “What if I see a ghost too?! All of them started acting weird after going home from the party, and someone said your place is haunted, too. What if something happens to me?!”
Bai Yao gave her a sidelong glance. “You’ll be fine.”
He Cai still felt Bai Yao was brushing her off and shouted angrily, “You still don’t believe me!”
But Bai Yao replied, “I really do believe what you said!”
He Cai was furious. “Bai Yao, I’m cutting ties with you!”
But after class, when everyone went their separate ways, He Cai came back to Bai Yao with a miserable look on her face to reconcile. “Yao Yao, I’m really scared. You don’t know, Su Youyou has even been admitted to a mental hospital!”
Bai Yao thought for a moment. “I found a way to put your mind at ease.”
He Cai: “What is it?”
At dusk, Bai Yao brought He Cai back to Yuhua Community. He Cai was timid, trembling with every step, clinging to Bai Yao’s side and looking around warily.
Bai Yao opened the door, turned on the light, and invited He Cai into the house.
He Cai asked nervously, “W-what is this method you thought of to reassure me?”
Bai Yao calmly replied, “Look, the light in my house is on.”
He Cai: “So?”
Bai Yao: “Come with me.”
They stepped outside again. Bai Yao locked the door and stood in front of the house. He Cai still couldn’t figure out what Bai Yao was trying to do.
Bai Yao said, “I’m heading out in a bit for a candlelight dinner with my boyfriend, but I forgot to turn off the lights. If there really is a ghost, I’ll ask him to help me turn them off.”
The light inside the house was still on.
Bai Yao said, “See? Nothing’s wrong.”
Just as He Cai was about to breathe a sigh of relief, her expression suddenly changed. She clutched Bai Yao’s arm tightly and stammered, “Y-Yao Yao… The lights inside just went out!”
Bai Yao glanced at the now-dark window. Sure enough, the lights inside had gone out. She shrugged at He Cai. “If he’s kind enough to help me turn off the lights, that proves that even if there is a ghost, it must be a good one. So what’s there to be afraid of?”
He Cai relaxed. “Ah, so that’s it. Nothing to be scared of.”
Two seconds later.
He Cai suddenly clutched her head and screamed, “Not being afraid is what proves there’s really a ghost!”
She turned and ran off, yelling without any control over her expression, “There’s a ghost!!! Mooooom!!!”
Bai Yao blinked in confusion. She did not understand what there was to be afraid of. But she let it go anyway because she quite liked He Cai, that little sycophant. So she decided to coax her.
There was no bus passing near the bus stop at Yuhua Community. He Cai, all alone and frightened, squatted by the roadside, trembling, nearly in tears. She shouldn’t have believed that Bai Yao was a normal person!
After a while, her phone received a photo from Bai Yao.
A boy with orange hair was climbing a step ladder, using tools to repair the electric meter. He Cai remembered that the boy was Bai Yao’s boyfriend.
Bai Yao then sent another message: 【 My home’s electric meter broke and tripped just now, that’s why the lights went out. 】
So that’s what it was.
He Cai let out a sigh of relief as she squatted by the roadside.
Suddenly, a car pulled up in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing a man with a sleep-deprived face who smiled lazily. “Miss He, right? You came here again to visit your classmate?”
He Cai nodded and stood up a bit awkwardly. “Officer Chen.”
Chen Shuo said, “Get in, I’ll give you a ride.”
She glanced around—everything was pitch black—so she quickly got into his car. After all, he was a police officer; he couldn’t possibly be a bad person.
Chen Shuo casually remarked, “I remember you said your friend is called Bai Yao, and her boyfriend is Lu Sheng?”
As He Cai fastened her seatbelt, she replied, “Yes, her boyfriend is Lu Sheng.”
Chen Shuo smiled, “Speaking of which, Lu Sheng and I are acquaintances too. I have no idea how those two got together. Since Miss He and Miss Bai are close friends, you must know a lot about them, right?”
He Cai gave Chen Shuo a puzzled look.
Night had fallen, and the moon had risen.
Bai Yao was holding the ladder as Lu Sheng climbed down after checking the electric meter. Once he was steady on the ground, she walked over and hugged him. “Lu Sheng, thank you for your hard work!”
Lu Sheng’s hands were a bit dirty, so he didn’t dare hug her back. Instead, he rubbed his cheek against hers and said cheerfully, “Yao Yao, it was just a small thing!”
As he rubbed against her, the collar of his shirt shifted, revealing his collarbone, which still bore some marks that hadn’t faded.
It had happened the day of the party. After everyone had left, Bai Yao refused to let Lu Sheng take off that outfit, and they ended up playing a rather indecent version of “Big Bad Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood.” It was so intense that the marks on their bodies hadn’t completely faded even now.
Lu Sheng glanced at the electric meter. “The circuit tripped because the meter’s getting a bit old. I’ve fixed it now, and there won’t be any more problems. Yao Yao, you can rest easy.”
Bai Yao shot him a glance, nestled into his arms, and smiled. “Of course. Why wouldn’t I be at ease?”
Lu Sheng reached out to pat her head, but remembered his hands were still dirty. Instead, he lowered his head and kissed the corner of her lips. “It was just a power trip, that’s all. Yao Yao, don’t be scared.”
“I’m not scared at all,” Bai Yao sighed again. “It’s just that poor Cai Cai is so timid. She’d rather believe in ghosts than believe that I’m Qin Shi Huang.”
Lu Sheng’s expression turned odd.
Suddenly, Bai Yao’s eyes lit up with excitement. “I’ve just thought of what kind of play we can do tonight! Let’s turn off all the lights and play ‘possessed by a ghost’!”
Lu Sheng: “……”
Was what she said about ghost possession even serious?
In the “Friendly Neighborhood” group chat, a few new messages popped up.
Master of Cuisine: 【 This kid has been messing with other people’s lights, and he needs to be taught a lesson! 】
A short video was posted.
A black mist in human form squatted in the corner of the kitchen, sobbing as it washed dishes covered in ketchup and chili sauce. Its pitiful expression made it look extremely miserable.
Who would’ve thought, even in the ghost world, bullying exists?
