- Chapter 76 - Because I’m a Love-Brain, My Boyfriend Being a Pervert Doesn’t Matter VIII
He Cai, like everyone else, had always assumed that the kind of boyfriend Bai Yao would look for had to be an extremely handsome and wealthy young man. After all, Bai Yao was someone with an overly refined taste. If it wasn’t the best, she certainly wouldn’t be interested.
As for this boy named Lu Sheng, to be honest, he was bright, lively, and definitely good-looking, but still not quite on the level of extremely handsome. Plus, his orange hair gave off a bit of a delinquent vibe.
In short, the boyfriend that outsiders imagined for Bai Yao was worlds apart from the boy currently standing beside her.
But He Cai immediately beamed and said, “Mr. Lu is tall and handsome, with such a pleasant personality. Yao Yao, you’re really so lucky to have such an excellent boyfriend!”
But it was their first meeting—how did she already know he had a good personality?
Bai Yao lifted her chin. “Of course. I’ve always had good taste.”
He Cai looked full of longing as she said in an exaggerated tone, “I’m really jealous that you found such a wonderful boyfriend. If only I were that lucky too! But alas, I’m not as outstanding as you, Yao Yao. I still have to work harder.”
Bai Yao comforted her. “That’s okay. Diligence makes up for the lack of talent. Keep working hard.”
She then introduced Lu Sheng, “This is He Cai, my good sister.”
One hour after their falling out, He Cai had once again secured the top spot as Bai Yao’s number one good sister. She smiled at Lu Sheng and said, “Hello, Mr. Lu. I’m He Cai. Yao Yao and I have always been very close.”
Lu Sheng gave a small smile. “Hello. Yao Yao must have received a lot of care from you all.”
He Cai waved her hand. “You’re joking. Yao Yao is kind, generous, and broad-minded. She’s the most popular girl in our school, but she’s always been approachable. Honestly, it’s us who’ve been taken care of by her.”
Lu Sheng lowered his gaze to look at Bai Yao.
Bai Yao nodded solemnly. “Yes, I’ve always been excellent.”
He chuckled. “Mm, I know.”
He Cai was very perceptive. “You two are probably heading out on a date, right? Then I won’t bother you. Yao Yao, let’s have a meal together sometime.”
Bai Yao smiled. “Sure. Goodbye Cai Cai.”
He Cai replied with a “Goodbye,” and she and the other girls left first.
Lu Sheng said, “Yao Yao is really popular at school.”
Bai Yao blinked. “Maybe it’s because I’m naturally beautiful, and also excellent in both character and academics, so everyone wants to be my friend.”
Lu Sheng joked, “In that case, I’m a little worried someone else might try to steal you away.”
Bai Yao held his hand, looked up at him with her head slightly tilted, her hair swaying gently behind her. She lifted the corners of her lips in a smile. “That’s why you have to find a way to hold on to me, so I won’t be taken away.”
Lu Sheng met her gaze. He bent forward and leaned in close to her face, teasing, “Then can I lock Yao Yao up in a room that only I can enter?”
Bai Yao was momentarily dazed. “You mean, lock me in a little black room?”
He chuckled. “I wouldn’t bear to put you in a little black room. At the very least, the room would have to be beautifully decorated, with red roses, pink teddy bears, a white princess bed, and lace on the canopy and curtains. Oh, and a huge wardrobe filled with all the pretty dresses you like.”
Bai Yao looked at him without saying anything.
Lu Sheng seemed to realize that his joke had gone a bit too far. He reached out to pat the top of Bai Yao’s head. “Sorry… Did I scare you…”
“Actually, that doesn’t sound so bad.”
Lu Sheng: “…Huh?”
Bai Yao hugged the arm that had been patting her head. Her beautiful eyes sparkled, and her smile grew even brighter with excitement. “Just think about it, no more having to get up early for school every day, waking up whenever I want, no need to go out and socialize, just staying curled up in a pretty house playing on my phone, gaming, watching eroti… um, I mean, reading novels. That kind of life sounds pretty nice!”
Lu Sheng looked at Bai Yao’s excited face, his expression slightly odd.
Bai Yao reached out and cupped Lu Sheng’s face in her hands. Clicking her tongue twice, she said proudly, “Lu Sheng, even if you lock me in a room, you still make it so pretty, and you’ve paid attention to every single detail of the princess room I like so much. Just how much do you love me?”
She then shook her head and said with a sigh, “Having a love brain isn’t great. It’s easy to become a laughingstock. But luckily, I don’t mind.”
Lu Sheng was silent for two seconds. Then he placed a hand over the back of hers and chuckled softly. “Mm, what Yao Yao says makes sense.”
Bai Yao laughed. “Let’s go eat!”
Lu Sheng held her hand and smiled. “Okay.”
They went to a Chinese restaurant not far from the school. There was a promotion that day. Ordering a set meal for two came with a blind box gift.
Lu Sheng gave the blind box to Bai Yao. She opened it and found a silver necklace with a small red strawberry pendant. The server said it was a limited edition. It was the only strawberry necklace available. Bai Yao really liked it, and her eyes curved with joy.
Lu Sheng rested his chin in one hand and quietly watched Bai Yao, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips. Her smiling face seemed even more appealing than the food in front of him.
Just then, a man walked over. “Reporter Lu.”
Lu Sheng looked up and politely responded, “Officer Chen.”
Chen Shuo smiled. “What a coincidence, running into you here.”
He looked at Bai Yao and teasingly said to Lu Sheng, “Having a meal with your girlfriend?”
“Yes.” Lu Sheng introduced, “This is Officer Chen, Chen Shuo.”
Bai Yao looked at the tall man in a trench coat and smiled as she introduced herself. “Hello, I’m Bai Yao.”
Although Chen Shuo was a police officer, he was a bit unkempt and had a laid-back air. His pair of peach blossom eyes made him seem a little unruly. After exchanging introductions with Bai Yao, he turned to Lu Sheng and asked, “Any new findings in your recent investigation, Reporter Lu?”
Lu Sheng smiled. “Officer Chen, you’re joking. I’m just a small-time reporter. How could I possibly uncover more than you professionals?”
Chen Shuo also smiled. “That’s not necessarily true. You guys have your own sources. Besides, we’re bound by too many rules in our investigations. Sometimes, we can only get more information from people like you.”
Lu Sheng said, “If I do come across anything new, I’ll let you know right away.”
“Then I’ll thank you in advance.” Chen Shuo said, “I won’t interrupt your meal. I’ve still got work to do. Let’s catch up next time.”
After Chen Shuo left, Bai Yao asked curiously, “Are you two close?”
“When he was investigating missing persons, I was interviewing the relatives and friends of the missing, so we’ve had a few encounters.”
