- Chapter 72 - Because I’m a Love-Brain, My Boyfriend Being a Pervert Doesn’t Matter IV
Bai Yao took the opportunity of going back for her bag to quickly touch up her makeup. When she came running out, the tall young man was already waiting for her under the moonlight.
Seeing Bai Yao, he smiled, eyes curving, “We’ve only been apart for a short while, but Miss Bai seems even more beautiful. Am I imagining things?”
If it had been any other man saying that, Bai Yao would have thought he was being sleazy. But this man still had a youthful, sunny demeanor, somewhere between a boy and a man, making everything he said feel genuine.
Bai Yao had originally been running, but unconsciously slowed down her pace with some reserve. She walked up to Lu Sheng, beaming at him, “Mr. Lu, with your sense of humor and charm, you must be very popular.”
Lu Sheng thought for a moment, then shook his head and smiled, “I really haven’t noticed. You’re the first person to say I’m likable, Miss Bai.”
That’s good!
Bai Yao was now certain he didn’t have a girlfriend, which only made her more eager.
They chatted pleasantly all the way, and about ten minutes later, Lu Sheng led Bai Yao into a noodle restaurant. He pushed the door open and let Bai Yao enter first.
The owner of the noodle restaurant saw an unfamiliar customer, and a strange gleam immediately flashed in his eyes. He stared unblinkingly at Bai Yao, as if he were looking at a piece of delicious fatty meat, practically drooling with desire.
However, as soon as he saw Lu Sheng, who entered right after her, his expression changed instantly.
Lu Sheng stood beside Bai Yao. His tall figure cast a shadow over the girl, making her look even more petite by comparison. He smiled at her and said, “I come here often. The food’s not bad.”
Bai Yao looked up at the menu on the wall and asked Lu Sheng, “I want braised beef noodles. What about you?”
Lu Sheng replied, “I want braised beef noodles too.”
He looked at the owner, the corners of his mouth lifting in a friendly smile, “Two regular beef noodles, please.”
The owner asked uncertainly, “Regular beef noodles?”
Bai Yao asked curiously, “Are there non-regular ones?”
Lu Sheng explained, “People in this community really love spicy food, so most customers order extra-spicy noodles with a lot of chili paste. But I can’t handle that kind of spiciness. What about you, Miss Bai? You probably don’t like spicy food either, right?”
The noodle restaurant owner’s expression turned complicated.
Bai Yao really couldn’t eat spicy food. She told the owner, “We’ll just have the regular beef noodles.”
The owner glanced at Lu Sheng.
Lu Sheng gave a faint smile.
The owner quickly said, “Alright, please wait a moment. The noodles will be ready soon.”
Bai Yao and Lu Sheng sat by the window. She thought to herself that, given her current circumstances, only being able to treat someone to noodles felt a bit too simple. So she said, “Once I’ve gotten everything settled, I’ll take you out for a proper feast.”
Lu Sheng smiled, “Sounds good. I’ll look forward to it.”
This was what Bai Yao liked about Lu Sheng. He didn’t go through the usual polite back-and-forth. He just said what he meant. Being with him made people feel at ease.
Lu Sheng poured Bai Yao a glass of water and casually asked, “Tomorrow’s Monday. Miss Bai, are you heading back to the university?”
Bai Yao tilted her head, “Did I ever say I was still in university?”
Lu Sheng’s smile deepened. “Last night, when I delivered the flowers, I saw textbooks placed in the living room, so I guessed Miss Bai is still in university.”
There were too many things yesterday, and Bai Yao had placed her belongings messily. As for where things were put, she had forgotten herself.
Yet Lu Sheng had even noticed such a small detail about her!
Bai Yao calmly took a sip of water. After putting down her glass, she openly said, “Yes, I’m a sophomore, majoring in Fine Arts.”
Lu Sheng asked, “Is your academic workload heavy?”
Bai Yao replied, “It’s manageable. Aside from Wednesdays and Thursdays, which are packed with classes, I only have two or three classes a day on other days.”
Lu Sheng smiled, “Then you’ll be able to come home and rest soon after class tomorrow, right, Miss Bai?”
Bai Yao nodded, “Yes. There are still some areas in my house that I haven’t had time to clean yet. So even when classmates invite me out, I’ve had to turn them down.”
Lu Sheng spoke warmly, “There’s always a lot to do when moving into a new place. If there’s anything you need help with, please don’t hesitate to ask, Miss Bai. If I can help, I certainly will. After all, we’re neighbors.”
Bai Yao’s beautiful eyes curved like little crescent moons. Her smile was radiant, and her voice sweet, “Mr. Lu, you’re such a good person!”
The restaurant owner, who was delivering their food, happened to overhear her words. He nearly twisted his ankle but quickly steadied himself with agility. He placed the two bowls of beef noodles on the table and politely said, “Please enjoy your meal.”
Then, unable to resist, he glanced again at the young man, his expression even stranger as he turned and walked away.
Bai Yao took a bite of the noodles. Lu Sheng asked, “Does it suit your taste?”
She nodded, “These noodles are even better than the ones made in big restaurants.”
Lu Sheng said, “The owner has been making noodles for over forty years. His cooking skills are truly top-notch.”
Bai Yao was slightly puzzled, “But he looks like he’s only in his thirties or forties.”
Lu Sheng smiled and said, “Yes, he looks young, but he’s actually not young at all.”
“How nice,” Bai Yao said. “I hope I can still look young when I get older.”
“Miss Bai, you’re someone favored by time. There’s no doubt you’ll be just fine. No need to worry.”
Lu Sheng was full of youthful energy. His bright, sunny smile was contagious. There wasn’t a trace of negativity about him. On the contrary, he had an uplifting charm that energized everyone around him.
Bai Yao secretly thought, I must win this man over!
Through their conversation, Bai Yao got to know more about Lu Sheng. He worked for a newspaper, and when things weren’t too busy, he usually worked a regular 9-to-5 schedule. According to him, his parents weren’t around, and he lived alone. When he got bored, aside from exercising, he would sometimes take his camera out to photograph beautiful scenery.
He showed Bai Yao some of the photos he had taken in the past. As expected of a professional, every landscape shot was stunning.
Bai Yao noticed a photo of a black cat licking its paw while sitting on the ground. Curious, she asked, “Is this black cat your pet?”
Lu Sheng replied, “It belongs to Xiao Xiong.”
Bai Yao: “Xiao Xiong?”
Lu Sheng: “He’s the son of the family living behind you. A seven-year-old boy, very naughty.”
Bai Yao suddenly understood, “Oh, him!”
Lu Sheng asked, “You know him?”
Bai Yao pursed her lips, “I’ve seen him twice since I moved in. One time he even snuck into my house, and he wasn’t wearing any clothes.”
Lu Sheng said, “Maybe it was because the weather was hot.”
Bai Yao said, “Maybe. But he had so much talcum powder all over him, running around at night scaring people. That’s just not okay.”
Lu Sheng looked at Bai Yao for a long moment, then chuckled lightly and agreed, “Yes, it really wouldn’t be good to scare people.”
