- Chapter 71 - Because I’m a Love-Brain, My Boyfriend Being a Pervert Doesn’t Matter III
At noon, Bai Yao made do with a meal of frozen dumplings stuffed with cabbage and pork. After eating, she continued tidying up. By dusk, she was struggling to carry several large bags of trash toward the garbage station.
Halfway there, a tall young man ran over. “Miss Bai, let me help you!”
The garbage bags in her hands were taken away, and she instantly felt much lighter.
Today, Lu Sheng was wearing a white T-shirt and black trousers, with a single-shoulder bag slung over him. Even though he was wearing low-top shoes, he was still quite a bit taller than Bai Yao.
He took off one side of his headphones, letting the black headset hang around his neck, which made him look even more youthful and energetic. He lowered his head and gave Bai Yao a bright smile. “I just got off work and ran into you, Miss Bai. What a coincidence.”
As he looked at her, he leaned forward slightly. The twilight and the orange strands of his hair blurred together in the shifting light. It was thanks to his fair complexion that he could pull off such an unusual hair color.
He said, “If I had come back a bit earlier or a bit later, I might not have run into you.”
The young man spoke in a joking tone, as if making a serious statement. “I must be lucky today. Maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket.”
Bai Yao’s eyes curved with a smile. “Then I must be lucky too. If I were alone, it would’ve taken a lot of effort to carry all that trash. But I feel a bit bad. Yesterday you gave me flowers, and today you’re helping me throw away garbage.”
Lu Sheng replied, “If I, as a man, stood by while a young lady was doing physical labor and did nothing, that would be my failure.”
When they reached the garbage station, Lu Sheng easily lifted the trash bags and threw them into the pit, then tossed in the two small bags Bai Yao was still holding. Smiling, he asked, “Miss Bai, is there anything else I can help with?”
Bai Yao thought for a moment. “I’ve more or less finished tidying up. At the moment, there’s nothing urgent. Oh, but there is one thing I might need your help with.”
Lu Sheng asked, “What is it?”
Bai Yao said, “There are a lot of flowers and plants in my yard that need tending, but I’ve never done any gardening, so I’m not sure which ones can be pulled out.”
Lu Sheng smiled and said, “That’s easy. Let me go home and put my things away, then I’ll come help you.”
Bai Yao looked at the bag in his hand.
Lu Sheng lifted the bag. “I bought dumplings on my way back. I need to put them in the freezer first.”
Bai Yao asked, “Cabbage and pork?”
He nodded with a smile. “Yes.”
Bai Yao felt a strange sense of coincidence. “I had cabbage and pork dumplings today too.”
He was surprised. “Did Miss Bai eat the same brand of dumplings as the ones I bought?”
After seeing the packaging clearly, Bai Yao’s tone immediately became excited. “Yes! It’s the same!”
Lu Sheng’s eyes curved with a smile. “Really? What a coincidence!”
Bai Yao turned her head and cupped her face.
How could this be just a coincidence?
This is clearly fate!
Lu Sheng went home first to put away his things, and not long after, he came over to Bai Yao’s place. He even thoughtfully brought her a pair of white gloves. “I noticed that Miss Bai has very beautiful hands. If you hurt them while pulling weeds, that would be a shame. Wearing these might be a bit warm, but they’ll protect your hands.”
In Bai Yao’s heart, she thought, This man is simply an angel!
Not only was he athletic, but he was also knowledgeable. The plants in the yard that she had considered weeds, he could name each one.
Lu Sheng flipped over the leaf of a plant, revealing a green bug with tiny spines crawling on it. He said, “If you get stung by this kind of bug, applying some ointment will make it better. But if you don’t treat it, it can hurt for a whole week.”
Bai Yao asked, “Have you been in pain for a whole week before?”
Lu Sheng turned his face slightly, his dark eyes gazing at the girl squatting beside him.
Bai Yao said, “I guessed because you mentioned it would hurt for a week without medicine. That kind of ointment should be easy to find in pharmacies, right?”
Lu Sheng smiled again. “Mm, when I was little, my mom was really busy and wasn’t around much. I was always getting into trouble, so yeah, I’ve been stung a few times.”
Bai Yao said to him, “Then let’s take revenge!”
He tilted his head. “Revenge?”
Bai Yao said, “Wait here.”
She stood up and ran back into the house. By now, night had already fallen, and the house, without lights, was dim. As she pushed open the door, she suddenly saw a pale-skinned boy crouched by the stairs. She was startled.
The boy was wearing only a pair of shorts. His skin was deathly pale, just like his face. He crouched silently in the dark corner, staring intently at Bai Yao.
But when Bai Yao looked again, the child had vanished.
She frowned, feeling that something was definitely off.
Remembering that Lu Sheng was still waiting outside, Bai Yao went to the kitchen and grabbed a plastic cup. As she came out of the kitchen, a boy’s figure ran past her.
Bai Yao quickly chased after him and grabbed the boy’s hand. The boy seemed surprised to be caught. He turned his head and opened his mouth toward Bai Yao, but what came out was a harsh, screeching cat-like sound.
Since Bai Yao had been inside for so long, Lu Sheng’s voice came from outside the door. “Miss Bai?”
Bai Yao quickly called back, “Coming!”
Without minding the boy’s struggle, she dragged him into the kitchen and warned him viciously, “I’m telling you, I hate bratty kids the most. You sneak into my house without even wearing proper clothes just to scare someone? It’s fine if you scare me, but if you scare the person outside and mess up my relationship, then I won’t tolerate it!”
The boy looked at her with an expression of stunned disbelief, as if he had just heard something completely incomprehensible.
Bai Yao opened the kitchen window, picked up the little troublemaker, and placed him outside on the grass. She looked fierce and menacing. “Go home right now! If you dare sneak into my house again, I’ll report you to your parents!”
She shook her fist at him, then slammed the window shut and locked it. Holding the cup, she ran out of the kitchen.
The little boy stood on the grass. A black cat suddenly leapt out from some corner and let out a meow. He shivered all over, then picked up the cat and ran back to his own house.
Bai Yao returned to the yard. She used the disposable plastic cup to trap the bug, then placed a small stone on top of the cup.
Lu Sheng looked at her in confusion.
She said, “I checked the weather forecast. It’s going to be sunny tomorrow. So I’ll trap it like this. No food, no water. Under the sun, it’ll be thirsty and hungry, slowly drying out in the heat.”
Bai Yao let out a few eerie villain-style chuckles. “Under this torture, it won’t be able to live or die, just slowly suffer until death. Heh heh…”
Lu Sheng’s eyes widened.
Bai Yao asked, “So? Fun, right?”
He burst out laughing. “Yeah, fun.”
Bai Yao laughed too. She glanced at the time on her phone and said, “Mr. Lu, do you know of any restaurants around here? You’ve helped me so much, I’d like to treat you to dinner.”
Lu Sheng didn’t bother being polite. He pointed in a direction. “There’s a noodle restaurant over there. The food’s pretty good.”
Bai Yao smiled and said, “Then wait for me a moment. I’ll go get my purse.”
Lu Sheng smiled. “Okay.”
Bai Yao ran back into the house again.
Lu Sheng lowered his head and looked at the little green worm inside the cup. His eyes curved slightly as he placed another small stone on top.
“So fragrant…” A voice full of longing drifted out from the darkness. “So fragrant… I want to eat…”
The hoarse voice mixed with the wind, becoming terrifyingly ominous in the night air.
Lu Sheng slowly stood up. He raised his hand and reached into a swirling fog.
The mist gradually condensed into a black human-shaped figure. Its neck was precisely caught in the grip of the man’s hand. It struggled and let out a low, painful moan.
Lu Sheng looked at it with a cheerful smile. “She’s mine. You can’t eat her.”
The black figure stammered, “You… Didn’t you always let us eat?”
Lu Sheng: “This time is… a bit of an unexpected situation.”
Figure in the mist: “W-What?”
Lu Sheng smiled radiantly. Beneath the tousled orange hair, a trace of madness flickered in his black eyes. He chuckled softly and said in an upbeat tone, “The moment I saw her, I got hard.”
Figure in the mist: “?!”
