- Chapter 70 - Because I’m a Love-Brain, My Boyfriend Being a Pervert Doesn’t Matter II
Bai Yao and the young man exchanged names. His name was Lu Sheng, a recent graduate student who was currently working as an intern reporter at a newspaper. He lived in this neighborhood and often came here to practice basketball after work when he had nothing else to do.
The moment Bai Yao saw the dark red glow that flashed briefly around Lu Sheng, she became absolutely certain—this encounter was arranged by fate.
Yes, this man was her destined boyfriend.
As the saying goes, “The pavilion closest to the water enjoys the moonlight first.” No matter what the agent said, she was determined to live here!
As the agent helped Bai Yao move her things, he kept trying to persuade her. “That guy dyed his hair orange. He looks like one of those delinquent youths!”
Carrying a cardboard box from the car into the house, Bai Yao replied, “That just means he’s bold and youthful! What’s wrong with dyeing your hair? That color looks great!”
The agent followed Bai Yao closely. “Aren’t you worried he might be a bad person? There aren’t many people living in this neighborhood, and young people especially are reluctant to stay here…”
“Who said that? Aren’t I a young person myself?”
The agent was momentarily rendered speechless. Forget it. Kind advice doesn’t help someone courting disaster; compassion can’t save one determined to perish. He gave up!
The agent was a responsible person. After helping Bai Yao move and receiving his commission, he still reminded her to contact him if anything came up. These old houses might need repairs from time to time, and it would be hard for a girl like her to handle it alone.
Repairs? That’s a good thing!
Wasn’t this just creating opportunities for her to interact with her destined boyfriend in the future?
Before leaving, the agent reminded Bai Yao, “Miss Bai, there have been a lot of troubling rumors in the city lately. Since you’re a woman living alone, don’t go out at night. Lock your doors and windows early and get some rest.”
Bai Yao waved her hand. “Got it. Thank you. Goodbye.”
The agent drove off.
Bai Yao shut the door and began organizing her belongings. She had a lot of stuff, mostly cosmetics, clothes, accessories, and bags. If the agent hadn’t helped her move, she definitely would have needed to hire a moving company.
By the time she finished unpacking, it was already 8 PM. This place was indeed remote. Having grown used to the big city, she looked out the window and saw nothing but a few dim streetlights surrounded by darkness. It was far too quiet.
Bai Yao decided to make instant noodles to tide herself over. She went into the kitchen, placed the noodles into boiling water, and as she looked up, she could see the white house across the street through the window.
That house had no lights on, and under the cold moonlight, a human silhouette suddenly appeared on the other side of the glass.
Inside that house stood a pale-faced boy, pressed against the glass, staring directly at her.
Bai Yao was startled and took a step back, but she quickly recovered. Patting her chest, she said, “Scared me to death. I thought it was a ghost. Turns out it’s just a kid.”
When she looked again, the dark glass window on the other side was already empty.
“Naughty,” Bai Yao muttered. She picked up the cooked instant noodles and transferred them into a bowl, carried it into the living room, placed it on the coffee table, and sat down to eat while browsing on her phone.
She took a picture of the empty living room, then made a peace sign and snapped a selfie. After that, she posted them to her Moments feed.
【 Moved into a new place. Totally worn out. I feel like I’ve gotten ugly from exhaustion! 】
Not long after the post went up, over a dozen replies appeared instantly.
【 Goddess, are you joking! You still look absolutely beautiful! 】
【 Dearest bestie, your porcelain-like little face, let me borrow some of that beauty! 】
【 Oh my god, why does someone as beautiful and rich as Yao Yao even exist in this world! 】
……………
Bai Yao felt fairly satisfied reading the comments praising her stunning beauty, but one comment unexpectedly stood out.
【 Bai Yao… is there something behind your window? 】
Something?
Bai Yao zoomed in on the selfie. On the glass window behind her, there seemed to be a faint, misty shadow. She turned around to look at the living room window and gave a short “Hmph.” She picked up a rag, slipped on her slippers, and walked over, vigorously scrubbing the glass a few times.
Old houses just need a good cleaning; there’s dust everywhere.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
Bai Yao walked to the front door and peeked through the peephole. Outside stood a young man with orange hair. Sensing her gaze, he looked up and smiled brightly.
Bai Yao opened the door with a smile. “Mr. Lu.”
Lu Sheng was holding a pot of roses. “Miss Bai, sorry to bother you this evening. From today on, we’re neighbors. I don’t have anything special to give, so here are flowers I grew myself. Welcome to Yuhua Community.”
Bai Yao hurriedly took the flowers and thanked him, “I haven’t prepared a return gift yet. I’m so sorry!”
“No problem.” Lu Sheng pointed to a house not far away. “I live right there. If Miss Bai ever needs help with anything, feel free to come find me.”
He really is enthusiastic and generous. Such a good person!
Lu Sheng’s house was directly across from Bai Yao’s, only a few dozen meters away—just a few steps.
Bai Yao said tactfully, “Mr. Lu, would you like to come in for a cup of tea?”
Lu Sheng smiled. “No need. It’s quite late. I won’t come in.”
A man visiting a woman’s house late at night would surely make her uncomfortable. Any man with even a bit of gentlemanly manners would politely decline such a gesture.
Lu Sheng added, “Although our community is quite safe, Miss Bai is, after all, a lovely young woman, so it’s still important to be cautious. At night, make sure to lock your doors and windows properly. Of course, if anything urgent happens, just call my name loudly. I’ll be able to hear you.”
Bai Yao nodded. “Got it. Thank you.”
Lu Sheng didn’t linger. After telling Bai Yao to rest early, he turned and left.
Bai Yao closed the door and looked down at the pot of roses in her hands. She sighed again to herself. Mr. Lu, with his handsome looks and sunny personality, really is a good man.
She placed the flower on the table in the living room, then hummed a tune as she went to finish her leftover instant noodles. Because of that, she didn’t notice a message that had popped up on her phone from a classmate.
【 Bai Yao, you didn’t move into that Yuhua Community, did you? That place is haunted! 】
A second later, the message vanished without a trace, as if it had never existed.
The next day was Sunday, so there were no classes.
Bai Yao slept in until ten and then slowly resumed tidying up the house. According to the agent, the previous owner was a doctor who had gone abroad to retire due to old age and thus sold the property.
This house had been listed for a long time before she bought it. There was even a basement under the storage room, but since she was already struggling to clean the master and guest bedrooms, she figured she’d leave the basement for another time.
