Bai Yao stood at the bathroom door, her gaze lowering.

The black-haired boy hurriedly pulled down the hem of his shirt. He stood up and looked at her with an expressionless face.

He was tall and a little thin. The loose T-shirt hung on him as if a child had stolen an adult’s clothes, and the baggy hem only made his frame look even more fragile.

His tone was calm. “Why are you in my room?”

Bai Yao lifted the corners of her lips. “This is my room now. Yours is next door.”

Just then, Van Gogh came running back. He explained to the boy, “Shi Jiu, this is Miss Bai Yao.”

Van Gogh lowered his voice and said to Shi Jiu, “The room next door is bigger. The bathroom even has a large bathtub for soaking. The conditions there are much better. If you move there, you’ll definitely sleep more comfortably.”

When Li Shenjue had brought the two survivors onto the spaceship, he had given the best room next to his own to Ruan Jiaojiao. As for Shi Jiu, he had left the arrangements to Van Gogh.

Van Gogh knew that Bai Yao would board midway, so naturally, he had reserved the best of the remaining rooms for this young lady.

Thus, Shi Jiu had ended up in this small room.

At that time, Shi Jiu hadn’t voiced any objection. It was Ruan Jiaojiao who was dissatisfied, upset that her younger brother had to stay in such a poor room. Because of that incident with the rooms, Ruan Jiaojiao learned of Bai Yao’s existence.

Shi Jiu’s gaze fell on Bai Yao.

Although this young lady was simply dressed, her clothes, shoes, and the accessories in her hair were all items that could only be bought at a high price.

He didn’t know why Bai Yao didn’t want to live in the room specially kept for her, nor did he intend to find out.

He was only thinking about the scene from moments ago, wondering how much she had seen.

His thin lips pressed together. Without saying anything unnecessary, he gathered his few belongings and left the room.

Bai Yao, curious, asked, “He’s that Ruan Jiaojiao’s younger brother?”

Van Gogh nodded. “Yes, but I heard they’re not actually siblings by blood. Before Planet M42 exploded and disintegrated, Miss Ruan met Shi Jiu while escaping. They went through several life-and-death experiences together. Shi Jiu even saved Miss Ruan several times. They became very close, so they acknowledged each other as siblings.”

When Li Shenjue had led the team on the mission, he had thought it would be a simple rescue operation. Only when they reached Planet M42 did they realize the dangers there were far greater than expected.

They could hardly talk about rescuing people when their own team had almost been wiped out.

In the end, they managed to rescue only Ruan Jiaojiao and Shi Jiu from that planet.

Van Gogh hesitated for a moment before saying, “Shi Jiu is an orphan. He can only follow Miss Ruan back to her hometown. He’s withdrawn by nature and doesn’t like talking to people, so…”

Bai Yao gave him a sidelong glance. “It’s not like I’m going to bully him.”

Van Gogh gave a simple, honest smile.

Actually, if Bai Yao did want to bully someone, others could hardly blame her. After all, Li Shenjue was her fiancé, yet he now had an ambiguous relationship with Ruan Jiaojiao.

It was perfectly normal for Bai Yao to dislike Ruan Jiaojiao, and since Shi Jiu was Ruan Jiaojiao’s younger brother, there was that saying about loving the house and its crow—well, naturally, one could also hate the house and its crow.

However, Shi Jiu still looked very young, perhaps not even an adult yet. And since he was an orphan, that naturally evoked sympathy.

Van Gogh left.

Bai Yao closed the door, sat on the bed, and carefully folded the clothes she had taken out of her bag. As for the matter of Ruan Jiaojiao and her brother, she didn’t take it to heart at all.

What troubled her was something else entirely. It had been nearly half a year since she arrived in this world, yet she hadn’t found any “handsome, strong, and tragic” potential capture targets. That unreliable system, which vanished right after throwing out the word “capture,” had been completely useless.

Bai Yao took out a packet of seeds from her bag. They were rose seeds she had brought from Earth’s botanical archives. Her university research project had been to observe how Earth’s organisms grew on planets outside the solar system.

Those planets that had already been developed into tourist attractions naturally held no research value, so she had chosen a planet in the Andromeda Galaxy.

There was a barren world there, undeveloped by humans, but its soil could sustain plant life.

All she needed to do was bury the flower seeds on that planet, place a monitoring device nearby, and she could leave.

In space, human eyes lose the ability to distinguish time. Bai Yao’s wristband vibrated twice, and a clear, sweet voice of a little girl rang out.

“Jiejie, Jiejie, it’s ten o’clock at night now. You should go to bed!”

Bai Yao lay down with a facial mask on, answering perfunctorily, “Got it.”

A faint blue glow appeared on her wristband, and a holographic image of a little girl with twin ponytails popped out. “Jiejie, Mr. Bai said you can’t stay up late! Staying up late will make you ugly!”

“Jiejie, go to sleep now!”

“Otherwise, I’ll tell Mr. Bai you’re staying up again!”

“I’ll make him scold you!”

The little girl chirped endlessly. Bai Yao forcibly powered off the wristband, and the image vanished. The room finally quieted down.

The Bai family’s enterprise spanned multiple industries, including artificial intelligence. As long as someone used electronic devices, they couldn’t avoid using Bai family products.

Bai Yao had set her wristband’s AI to take the form of a little girl, and her father, concerned for her health, had apparently loaded countless health reminders into the program.

She was young, after all, so how could she possibly go to bed at ten o’clock?!

Bai Yao glanced at the time, sat up, tore off her facial mask, and got out of bed to head toward the bathroom. As she walked, her foot accidentally struck something at the corner of the bed. A glass tube rolled to a stop in front of her.

The room next door.

Shi Jiu had rummaged through his few belongings several times, but still couldn’t find what he was looking for. He bent over, clutching his stomach, his teeth sinking hard into his lower lip. His fair, jade-like face looked even paler.

He buried his face in the blanket, his hand gripping the fabric tighter and tighter. The veins on the back of his hand stood out, his knuckles turning white.

Outside, someone knocked on the door.

He lifted his head, the hair on his forehead damp with sweat, his frightened gaze full of wariness.

The knocking continued.

Shi Jiu climbed out of bed clumsily. The moment his feet touched the floor, he nearly fell, but managed to steady himself against the wall. He slowly walked to the door, his dry voice asking, “Who is it?”

From outside came a girl’s voice. “It’s Bai Yao. I came to bring you something.”

Shi Jiu stood silently for a moment, then reached out and opened the door a crack.

Only a small lamp was lit in his room, dimmer than the light in the hallway. Hidden in the shadows, he revealed only half his face, and with his pitch-black eyes staring emotionlessly at the person outside the door, he looked gloomier than a creature lurking in the dark.

А как он держит сердце и одновременно скользит руками? Возле груди, в стороне, над головой, за спиной? У меня вырисовывается странная сцена
