- Chapter 132 - The Day the Code Fell in Love II
There were not many people on the spacecraft, but a few among them had seen Bai Yao before. When they greeted her, their expressions were somewhat evasive.
Bai Yao soon realized why their behavior seemed so strange. Just as she approached the main cabin door, she heard a girl’s soft, coquettish voice.
“Li Shenjue! Don’t think that just because you saved me, you can do whatever you want to me! I won’t let you bully me!”
The girl’s voice was sweet and tender, like soft glutinous rice. When she was angry, her little round face puffed up like a pufferfish, looking more adorable than intimidating.
The rumored cold and ruthless Commander Li, whom no one ever dared to defy, was incomparably handsome yet far too cold in temperament; many people were intimidated by the chilling aura he exuded.
But this lively, charming girl wasn’t afraid of him at all.
Li Shenjue was being scolded, yet unexpectedly, he didn’t get angry. Instead, he reached out, pulling the girl who tried to escape into his arms.
Lowering his voice close to her ear, he murmured, “Jiaojiao, then tell me, how exactly have I bullied you, hmm?”
The girl named Jiaojiao suddenly felt her knees go weak. Her palm-sized face flushed with both shyness and anger. She tried to push him away, but the moment her hand pressed against his hard chest, all her strength seemed to vanish.
In a voice lacking any real authority, she said, “You bad man, taking advantage of me! Let me go!”
Pressed against his chest, she was so close that with his tall height, Li Shenjue only had to lower his head to see the soft, full curves visible at the edge of her collar.
Li Shenjue had never been interested in women. Even when enemies sent women to seduce him, his body never reacted. But this woman, soft in body and softer still in voice, ignited his desire instantly.
Tilting her chin up, Li Shenjue said, “I haven’t even taken advantage of you yet, and you’re already scolding me. If I don’t actually do something, wouldn’t that mean I’m at a loss?”
Looking at Li Shenjue’s face, drawing closer, Ruan Jiaojiao recalled that night not long ago. Her heart began to pound faster, her face growing redder as she anticipated what he might do next.
Just then, Ruan Jiaojiao noticed someone standing at the doorway. Embarrassed, she buried her head in the man’s chest and whispered, “Someone’s here!”
Li Shenjue turned around and barked angrily, “Get out!”
Bai Yao smiled faintly. “How about you show me how to roll out first? Give me a demonstration.”
Li Shenjue’s expression froze for a moment before he uttered two cold words, “Bai Yao.”
Upon hearing that name, Ruan Jiaojiao immediately raised her head toward the doorway.
Bai Yao was dressed in a simple, elegant white dress. Her long hair was tied into a ponytail, with a light-colored barrette pinning back her loose strands. Without any excessive adornments, she stood there smiling gently, becoming a beautiful sight in her own right.
She was Bai Yao.
Li Shenjue’s fiancée.
Ruan Jiaojiao couldn’t quite describe the feeling in her heart. Even though Li Shenjue had said his engagement was arranged by elders long ago, and that he detested the arrogant and domineering daughter of the Bai family, Bai Yao still bore the title of Li Shenjue’s fiancée.
Ruan Jiaojiao pulled herself free from Li Shenjue’s arms, lowering her head to keep the tears from falling. “I have something to do. I’ll be going now.”
With that, she turned and ran out.
Li Shenjue could see her red, teary eyes, pitiful and endearing. Before, when he exerted even a little force, this delicate girl would cry softly, her skin flushing pink beneath his touch. Now she was crying again, but she held back, not making a single sound.
Li Shenjue felt as though his heart had been fiercely twisted. He looked at Bai Yao, his eyes filled with an intense chill.
A row of question marks flashed across Bai Yao’s mind.
Li Shenjue’s face was frosty as if covered in a layer of ice, and his dark eyes gathered a dangerous storm like thunderclouds. In a cold voice, he said, “Bai Yao, the reason I let you on my ship this time is to tell you that I’m going to annul our engagement.”
Bai Yao nodded. “Alright.”
Li Shenjue: ……
It was as if he had punched a wad of cotton, his strength absorbed without resistance. The icy dominance he had been building up instantly made him look like a clown performing a one-man act.
Bai Yao was still smiling.
Li Shenjue cleared his throat awkwardly. “As long as you understand.”
Invisibly, the pressure he had projected earlier dissipated significantly.
Li Shenjue found Bai Yao even more detestable than before. Leaving her behind, he turned and walked out to chase after Ruan Jiaojiao.
Bai Yao stepped out a moment later. Van Gogh, who had been eavesdropping by the wall, quickly straightened up and said nonchalantly, “Miss Bai, let me take you to your room.”
Bai Yao smiled. “Alright, thank you.”
Van Gogh glanced at her expression again. Just now, Ruan Jiaojiao had run off in tears, and everyone in the group chat was guessing that Bai Yao had bullied her into crying. But seeing Bai Yao’s calm, composed demeanor now, he wasn’t so sure.
There weren’t many vacant rooms on the ship. Van Gogh had specifically reserved the best one for Bai Yao. But when Bai Yao heard that the room had a bathtub, she said, “I don’t like bathtubs. Change the room for me.”
She didn’t say “could you,” but directly, “change the room for me.” Only at that moment did she truly display the lofty demeanor of the famed Miss Bai from the rumors.
Van Gogh looked a little troubled. After thinking for a moment, he said, “The room next door doesn’t have a bathtub, but Miss Ruan’s younger brother is staying there. If you don’t mind, Miss Bai…”
Bai Yao picked up her bag and started walking toward the other room. “I don’t mind. Have him move to another one.”
This room was much smaller than the previous one, but it was still neat and clean.
Van Gogh thought about how the Bai family donated a lot of supplies to the fleet every year. Unlike Li Shenjue, he didn’t have the power to act arrogantly and was unwilling to offend this young lady. He quickly ran off to find Ruan Jiaojiao’s brother and tell him to come back and move out.
Bai Yao, having nothing else to do, looked around the room before walking into the bathroom. For some reason, she had a visceral discomfort toward dim bathrooms with bathtubs.
Although this one was small, its lighting was bright, and there was no bathtub, which made her feel content enough.
Then came a noise from outside.
A thin, black-haired boy appeared in the doorway, holding onto the doorframe for support. The moment he stepped inside, his body went weak, sliding down the wall until he sat on the floor, clutching his stomach.
His complexion was pale, each breath seemed to drag pain through his body, and he trembled faintly.
With weak, clumsy fingers, he lifted the hem of his black T-shirt, revealing his abdomen wrapped tightly with white bandages. His hand moved to unbutton his trousers, loosening the waistband that was too tight around his waist, as if finally gaining a moment to breathe.
The hand pressed against the white wall was so tense that the knuckles turned white, while the other hand around his abdomen tightened as though he wanted to crush his own body from the pain.
From the corner of his eye, he suddenly caught sight of a girl’s figure.
The black-haired boy looked up. His face was deathly pale, and in that strikingly beautiful pair of pitch-black eyes was a darkness so deep it seemed capable of swallowing his very life.
