Chapter 87: She’s a Capitalist’s Descendant!

Yes!

That damned courtyard gate!

It was all Li Hong’s fault! That useless fool who couldn’t accomplish anything but could ruin everything! Why did she have to kick the door!

Now it had become the most solid evidence in their hands!

She gritted her teeth in frustration, mentally cursing Li Hong—who still lay unconscious in the vegetable patch—to hell and back.

As if hearing her silent curses—

“Ugh… it hurts…”

A pained moan drifted faintly from the vegetable patch nearby.

Li Hong, whom Bai Rumeng had cursed thousands of times in her heart, struggled to rise from the ground.

Staggering to her feet, Li Hong’s face was half-covered with blood from her forehead mixed with soil from the vegetable patch, making her look both wretched and ferocious.

Supporting her dizzy head, her first sight was of the man protecting Xu Xiangsi like a guardian deity.

Rage, jealousy, and the humiliation of being kicked away instantly burned away all her reason!

“Xu Xiangsi!”

She screamed hoarsely, her voice grating like sandpaper, unbearably shrill.

Trembling with her uninjured hand, she pointed at Xu Xiangsi, who was sheltered in Long Peiye’s embrace, her entire demeanor bordering on madness: “She’s a cancerous remnant of Capitalism! A leftover that should be trampled underfoot!”

“Long Peiye! Open your eyes! We’re not here to bully anyone! We’re here to carry out revolutionary struggle!”

Li Hong grew more agitated as she spoke, as if she had found the most righteous justification in the world: “We must overthrow all capitalist monsters and demons! We must purify our revolutionary ranks!”

Her words fell with forceful conviction.

As if she weren’t the shrew who kicked down doors and came looking for trouble, but a revolutionary soldier executing a sacred mission.

Hearing this, Long Peiye didn’t even twitch an eyebrow.

He merely cast a cold sidelong glance at the madwoman.

Then, a faint yet deeply mocking sneer escaped his thin lips.

“Hah.”

“Spare me your high-sounding rhetoric.”

His voice wasn’t loud, but it pierced Li Hong’s heart like an icy blade: “Aren’t you just finding excuses to bully my wife because you can’t stand her?”

Long Peiye looked down at his young wife, still trembling slightly in his arms, and the chill in his eyes deepened.

“I know my wife’s nature better than anyone. She rarely steps outside her home and hardly knows the neighbors. How could she possibly obstruct the path of you elite Arts Troupe members?”

“A whole group of you, marching up to my door, kicking it down, surrounding and attacking a defenseless invalid.”

He raised his eyes, his gaze sweeping over everyone present like a sharp sword.

“And now you have the nerve to stand here, draping yourselves in tiger skins and waving grand banners?”

His words made Li Hong’s face flush red then pale white.

All her pretenses were torn to shreds by this man’s few sentences!

Seeing how Long Peiye had eyes only for that little bitch from start to finish, the poisonous fire of jealousy in Li Hong’s heart burned so fiercely it hurt her very organs.

Disappointment, resentment, and unwillingness surged through her heart.

“Long Peiye, wake up!”

She couldn’t help but scream again, her voice cracking.

“She’s the descendant of a capitalist! She has dirty blood flowing through her veins! She’s utterly unworthy of you! And unworthy of the honorable title of ‘Military Wife’!”

“The right choice is for you to divorce her as soon as possible! Otherwise, your career will eventually be dragged down by her!”

Divorce?

Long Peiye sneered inwardly.

I haven’t even properly held my wife’s hand long enough to warm it up, and some random piece of trash dares to urge me to get a divorce?

The way he looked at Li Hong was no longer regarding a living person, but rather a piece of garbage with no sense of self-preservation.

“My wife is unworthy of me?” he drawled, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “Then tell me, who exactly is worthy of me?”

His gaze lingered on Li Hong’s swollen, dirty face for a second.

The mockery in his eyes was almost tangible: “Don’t tell me you think you’re worthy?”

!!!

Li Hong froze as if struck by a sudden blow.

She couldn’t utter another word.

Her eyes began darting around frantically, her face flushing a deep purplish-red like liver, too ashamed to meet Long Peiye’s gaze.

Her filthy intentions had been laid completely bare for everyone to see.

The courtyard fell into deathly silence.

Just then.

A soft, nasal voice, tinged with a hint of mischief, emerged faintly from Long Peiye’s embrace.

Xu Xiangsi, who had been playing the part of a frightened little rabbit, cautiously peeked out halfway.

Her dewy almond eyes, now completely dry, were instead filled with mischievous glee.

She looked at Li Hong, who was so embarrassed she wished she could disappear on the spot, and spoke with a sweet smile.

“Ah, some people just don’t have mirrors at home.”

Her voice was sweet, but her words were venomous enough to make one spit blood: “Is urine matte too?”

The moment these words were spoken, the already stifling air in the courtyard seemed to grow even thinner.

Everyone was stunned.

Matte?

Urine?

What was she talking about?

Even Long Peiye, whose face was usually an unyielding ice sculpture, showed a rare crack in his composure.

He instinctively lowered his head, leaning closer to his little wife nestled in his arms, his voice hushed and filled with genuine confusion.

“What does that mean?”

Snuggled against his solid chest, basking in the absolute sense of security he provided, Xu Xiangsi felt her courage grow and her wit sharpen.

She raised a small fist and playfully, yet meaningfully, tapped his chest.

“Silly,” her voice was soft and sweet, as if whispering sweet nothings.

But the breath against his ear carried a hint of playful, sly laughter.

“It means she should take a piss and take a good look at what she’s really like.”

Long Peiye’s body stiffened abruptly.

He understood.

An intense, nearly uncontrollable impulse exploded from his chest!

He wanted to laugh.

But he forced it down.

His Adam’s apple bobbed furiously, his jawline tightening rigidly as he suppressed the laughter threatening to burst through the top of his head.

No, he was a battalion commander—how could he laugh at something like this…

It would be utterly undignified.

However, while Long Peihe managed to restrain himself, that didn’t mean others could.

Li Hong’s muddled brain finally deciphered the meaning behind the roundabout insult.

“Boom!”—it hit her.

That feeling was even more humiliating than being cursed at with every insult imaginable!

She completely exploded!

“Xu Xiangsi! You bitch!”

She screamed with all her might, her bloodied and mud-caked face contorted into a grotesque mask by extreme fury.

“I am a great warrior of the proletariat!”

“You! A descendant of Capitalists with filthy blood running through your veins! What the hell are you!”

She looked utterly deranged, her voice shrill enough to pierce eardrums.

“What right do you have to speak to me like that!”
