Chapter 82: Go Ahead and Report Me

Li Hong’s face instantly flushed the color of liver!

She felt like a fool throwing punches with all her might, only to have every blow land on cotton, becoming a laughingstock for everyone watching!

“You… just you wait!”

She couldn’t bear to look at Xu Xiangsi’s calm, unruffled face for one more second!

“I’m going right now! I’m leaving immediately!”

After hurling this threat, Li Hong spun around abruptly and stormed out in a rage.

In her haste, she nearly tripped over the half-broken door she had kicked earlier, stumbling before regaining her balance.

Her disheveled appearance only added to the absurdity of the scene.

In the courtyard, Xu Xiangsi watched her furious retreating figure, then slowly leaned back into the recliner.

She pulled the thin blanket over herself, half-closed her eyes, and continued basking in the warm, drowsy sunlight.

As if the earlier commotion were merely a breeze that rippled the spring water.

Once it passed, it scattered and vanished.

Xu Xiangsi remained in the recliner, not even shifting her position.

She even adjusted the thin blanket, her voice drifting over lazily: “Don’t let me keep you.”

She paused, her tone carrying a hint of natural arrogance.

“Although you barged into my home uninvited, I’ve always been magnanimous.”

“As the lady of this house, I must maintain basic decorum.”

Li Hong’s disgraced figure halted at the courtyard gate.

She whirled around, her eyes fixed fiercely on Xu Xiangsi as if trying to bore two holes through her.

Lady of the house!

Lady of the house!!!

These three words burned into Li Hong’s heart like three red-hot branding irons!

Why had she come here?

She came to tear apart this woman’s identity as the “lady of the house”!

Li Hong trembled with rage, pointing at Xu Xiangsi as her voice rose another octave.

“What right do you have to be the lady of this house!”

“You’re not worthy of Battalion Commander Long! You don’t deserve to be Battalion Commander Long’s wife!”

“If I were you, I’d divorce Battalion Commander Long immediately! Stop dragging down his brilliant future!”

Li Hong had rehearsed these words countless times in her mind, and shouting them now felt utterly satisfying.

Yet, upon hearing them, Xu Xiangsi laughed in disbelief.

Her light, feathery laughter grated on Li Hong’s nerves, driving her mad.

“What a pity,” Xu Xiangsi drawled, “you’re not me.”

Her gaze swept over Li Hong, filled with undisguised pity and disdain: “You’re just you.”

“So, you don’t even have the right to marry Long Peiye.”

Xu Xiangsi deliberately drew out her words, each one like a poisoned needle: “Oh—”

“Wait, I misspoke.”

“Maybe Long Peiye never even glanced at you properly?”

Boom!

Li Hong’s mind went blank with a buzzing roar.

This statement struck harder and more accurately than any insult!

It pierced straight through the deepest, most humble and shadowy corner of her heart—one she hadn’t dared to confront!

Yes, had Battalion Commander Long ever looked at her?

Perhaps he had—on the training ground, in the cafeteria, during every performance by the Arts Troupe.

But his gaze had never lingered on her for even a second.

He always looked at the collective, the mission, and the comrades fighting alongside him.

She, Li Hong, was no different from those ordinary female soldiers who blended into the crowd.

“I… I’ll kill you!”

Li Hong’s eyes instantly reddened, the thread of her rationality completely snapping!

Like an enraged lioness, she roared at Xu Xiangsi.

“You fox spirit!”

“You’re nothing but a shameless fox spirit! Who knows what seductive tricks you used to bewilder Battalion Commander Long!”

“I will definitely make Battalion Commander Long see your true colors! Definitely!”

She expected to see a panicked expression on Xu Xiangsi’s face.

But not only was Xu Xiangsi unafraid, her beautiful eyes instead lit up abruptly.

Dazzlingly bright.

“Oh?” She looked at Li Hong with keen interest, as if having discovered some novel toy. “Do you know what the primary requirement is to become a fox spirit?”

Li Hong was stunned by this sudden question.

Her mouth agape, she instinctively responded: “…What is it?”

Xu Xiangsi smiled triumphantly, a brilliant and bold smile like blooming poppies: “Of course, it’s to be beautiful.”

She looked at Li Hong’s face contorted with anger and leisurely added: “It seems that although you’re not much of a person,”

“your taste isn’t half bad.”

Li Hong: “…”

Waaah—!

She screamed in rage, feeling her lungs were about to explode!

How could there be such a shameless woman in this world!

Actually taking “fox spirit” as a compliment! And stepping on her while at it!

“You… you…” Li Hong pointed at her, stuttering “you” repeatedly but unable to form a complete sentence.

Just as she was about to explode again, Xu Xiangsi adopted an expression of sudden realization.

“Oh, right!”

Her slender fingers touched her smooth chin, as if pondering some serious academic question.

“You just called me a fox spirit, didn’t you?”

Li Hong stiffened her neck: “So what if I did!”

Xu Xiangsi nodded, wearing a “so that’s how it is” expression.

“Very well.”

Her voice wasn’t loud, but it clearly reached everyone present.

“You, Comrade Li Hong, a glorious female soldier of the Arts Troupe.”

“Actually engaging in feudal superstition right here in the military compound!”

Li Hong was completely dumbfounded.

Wh… what nonsense?

Feudal superstition?

Seeing her stunned expression, Xu Xiangsi smiled even more brightly.

“Go ahead and report me, I’ll be waiting.”

“When the comrades from the Revolutionary Committee arrive, we can also discuss this ‘feudal superstition’ issue of yours.”

“Let’s see which is more serious – your speculative ‘class background problem’ or your ironclad ‘feudal ideology’.”

The blood drained from Li Hong’s face in an instant, leaving it deathly pale!

That… that wasn’t what she meant!

She was just cursing!

How did it become feudal superstition?!

“I… I didn’t!”

She was so frantic she was nearly in tears, her voice trembling.

“That’s not what I meant! I was just using a metaphor!”

“A metaphor?”

Xu Xiangsi’s tone lifted slightly at the end, carrying a hint of amusement.

She smiled while looking at Li Hong’s tearful face, like an elegant and lazy cat appreciating the mouse trembling beneath its paw.

“The words came from your own mouth, Comrade Li Hong.”

“As for whether you meant it that way…”

Xu Xiangsi chuckled lightly, her gaze sweeping over the female soldiers at the courtyard gate with varied expressions.

“I don’t know.”

“That would depend on what the comrades of the Revolutionary Committee think.”

Boom—!

These seemingly casual words struck Li Hong like a thunderbolt from a clear sky!

She was genuinely on the verge of having a stroke from sheer fury!
