Ji Suying stood up, gazing at Ji Mingyue.

“Where did this come from? I’ve never seen such a beast before.”

Ji Mingyue, always clutching a candied haw skewer, spoke while eating:

“I bought it from someone; found the creature quite intriguing, so I acquired it without spending any money. He mentioned something about owing a karmic debt.”

Ji Suying furrowed her brow.

“Was it a rather plump old man with a perpetually lecherous smile on his face?”

Ji Mingyue nodded.

“Yes, that’s him.”

Ji Suying watched as the trio escaped but didn’t pursue them. Her thoughts were in disarray.

The Karma Daoist should not have appeared at this point in time.

His cultivation of the Karma Great Dao was both ethereal and profoundly terrifying. Ultimately, he could even employ the Great Karma Technique to sever destinies beyond the heavens.

However, after the incident, Ji Suying had questioned the Karma Daoist why he hadn’t intervened earlier.

On the brink of his demise, the Karma Daoist revealed that if he had acted sooner, he would not have been able to cut off their future paths effectively.

But now, why…

But now, at this crucial moment, the Karma Daoist appeared!

Of course, that wasn’t the main issue.

The most significant concern was that Ji Suying had repeatedly sought her own opportunities countless times, only to have them snatched away each time.

“Could it be someone from the Heaven Wrath Temple? Is there another like me, traveling from the time river?”

Ji Suying’s expression turned serious, almost grim.

However, the immediate priority wasn’t her personal predicament. The most critical matter remained the ancient secret realm ahead.

Within it lay something of paramount importance to her; while others could seize her chances elsewhere, this particular opportunity must not be taken from her under any circumstances!

Suddenly, Ji Suying recalled another detail.

“The ancient secret realm, according to the normal timeline, should open only after seven hundred years. But it has been expedited by precisely that amount!”

In her heart, Ji Suying felt nearly certain:

Someone else, just like her, had arrived here from the time river.

They too were plotting for the very thing she desired.

More accurately,

They were cutting off her path.

For a moment,

Ji Suying felt an overwhelming sense of solitude.

“Sir, sir, something urgent has happened!” One day, a shadow guard rushed anxiously to Lin Wudao.

Lin Wudao was lounging on his recliner, engaged in bird training. Seeing the disheveled state of the shadow guard, he sighed deeply.

“Well, speak up! What’s the matter?”

The shadow guard swallowed nervously. “Sir, our Yama Palace is becoming overcrowded. Due to the sheer number of people, our cultivation resources are nearly depleted.”

Lin Wudao frowned. “Am I hearing this correctly?”

“The selection process for the Yama Palace demands absolute loyalty and rigorous assessment. How could there be so many passing through? Moreover, the Yama Palace isn’t exactly a desirable place; why would they flock here with such eagerness?”

Even the shadow guard found it peculiar. “I’m not entirely sure, but every person joining the Yama Palace arrives in tears, distraught beyond measure. Strangely though, they all exhibit unwavering loyalty to the palace!”

Lin Wudao stared incredulously. “Tears of utter despair yet absolutely loyal? How does that make sense?”

The shadow guard handed him a recording crystal. As Lin Wudao examined it, he saw those individuals genuinely weeping in heartbroken anguish within the crystal’s memory. Yet, each one indeed passed the loyalty test without fail.

Not only that, but after joining the Yama Palace, these newcomers showed no slack in their training regimen.

Both loyal and diligent, Lin Wudao was utterly astounded by what he witnessed.

After some time, Lin Wudao asked, “Have you found out how this group entered the palace? And why are they working so hard?”

The shadow guard nodded. “It seems Elder Zhao Gou recruited them. However, those who brought them here mentioned that if they don’t perform well, Elder Zhao Gou would personally eliminate them!”

Lin Wudao rubbed his face, feeling slightly overwhelmed.

“Putting aside everything else, how many people are currently in the Yama Palace?” he queried.

The shadow guard responded, “Approximately thirty thousand!”

Lin Wudao blinked in surprise. “How many were there before?”

The shadow guard replied, “Around ten thousand.”

Lin Wudao’s eyes widened. “In less than half a month, such a significant increase! How did they manage it?”

The shadow guard reiterated, “Elder Zhao Gou personally recruited them.”

Lin Wudao promptly smacked the shadow guard on the head. “I’m asking, how exactly did Zhao Gou achieve this?”

The shadow guard shook his head. “I wouldn’t know, sir.”

Rubbing his temples, Lin Wudao sighed. “Couldn’t you have investigated?”

The shadow guard shook his head again. “Sir, it’s not about investigation; we’re simply too impoverished right now. Supporting so many people is a huge burden.”

Lin Wudao took a deep breath.

“Can’t you dismiss some of them?” the shadow guard whispered.

“They were personally recruited by Zhao Gou. Are you certain you want to dismiss any?”

Lin Wudao hesitated, acknowledging his limitations on this matter.

As for cultivation resources, after pondering briefly, he decided to use his jade token to contact Liu Shunyi.

Soon enough, Lin Wudao reached Liu Shunyi.

“I’ve set up a dedicated intelligence network for you recently, but it’s quite large and putting me under financial strain!” Lin Wudao succinctly explained the situation.

Without hesitation, Liu Shunyi approached Lin Wudao and handed him an entire gourd filled with blood pills.

The number of blood pills was staggering, akin to a mountain of wealth.

Not only were there blood pills, but also Divine Soul Pills condensed from divine souls, which could enhance one’s own soul upon consumption.

“Well done. I have high hopes for you. In the coming days, I’ll be entering secluded cultivation; make sure to develop your network well!”

With that, Liu Shunyi departed swiftly.

Left in awe, Lin Wudao stared at the abundance of blood pills and Divine Soul Pills within his space ring, feeling somewhat overwhelmed.

What truly left Lin Wudao shaken was when, almost involuntarily, he asked how many people had been killed to amass such a vast quantity of blood pills.

However, Liu Shunyi added one more line:

“I didn’t kill many people outright, but most of these blood and divine soul pills were directly extracted and refined.”

Lin Wudao felt his vision darken.

Extracting blood and divine souls forcibly? What kind of living Yama is this?!

Wait.

This truly is a living Yama.

Liu Shunyi even specifically warned:

“Blood pills refined from non-lethal extraction have minimal malevolent energy and won’t affect your mind. Feel free to consume them; if you need more, just let me know!”

Lin Wudao and the shadow guard remained stunned for a long time, only regaining their composure after Liu Shunyi had left.

Finally, Lin Wudao turned to the shadow guard and asked, “Who do you think is the better person, me or Brother Liu?”

The shadow guard responded without hesitation.

“Of course, Sir Liu.”

Lin Wudao was puzzled.

“Why?”

The shadow guard looked at Lin Wudao as if he were a fool.

“Because Sir Liu is known as the living Yama. If I imply he’s not a good person, am I wishing for my own demise?”

Lin Wudao cleared his throat forcefully, pausing briefly before saying, “Well, that makes perfect sense!”

Suddenly, the shadow guard smacked his head.

“Oh right, sir, there’s been increased activity by an organization called the Heaven Wrath Temple recently. It seems they’ve set their sights on you!”
