Lin Wudao frowned.
“Qinglian Sect, Zhao Gou!”
The Shadow Guard nodded and presented his findings on Zhao Gou’s background. Particularly intriguing was the detail about anyone he touched meeting their demise, leaving Lin Wudao astounded.
“This ability!” Lin Wudao involuntarily drew a sharp breath.
Gradually, however, he became more certain that his recent ordeal was connected to Zhao Gou.
Since reaching the Golden Core stage requires Transcending Tribulation, why hadn’t Zhao Gou undergone it? Wait, he did – damn it! Lin Wudao had unknowingly emptied his resources to help him through the process.
But dealing with Qinglian Sect posed a challenge.
While others might be unaware of its depth, Lin Wudao knew the true extent of Qinglian Sect’s power. It was far from as simple as it appeared on the surface.
Without concrete evidence, there was no way he could directly confront Qinglian Sect for Zhao Gou. However, this humiliation could not go unaddressed. Moreover, Zhao Gou must die.
After all, he had only reached the Golden Core stage so far. If Zhao Gou survived and cultivated further to attain Nascent Soul, would Lin Wudao have to assist him in transcending tribulations again?
With these thoughts, Lin Wudao decisively commanded:
“Find an opportunity to bring Zhao Gou before me.”
The Shadow Guard nodded in agreement.
Meanwhile, Zhao Gou, having successfully ascended to the Golden Core stage, gazed at the sky with a look of bewilderment.
Even now, he found it hard to believe that his advancement had been so effortless. The Formation and Magic Treasures he prepared were barely utilized.
What puzzled Zhao Gou the most was that initially, when ascending to the Golden Core, there should have been a Thunder Tribulation. Strangely, it seemed as if the tribulation heard some unseen summons and abruptly vanished, giving off an impression of urgency – which felt utterly absurd.
“Why am I different from others? Did the Thunder Tribulation just decide to bail halfway through?” Zhao Gou couldn’t comprehend this turn of events.
“Could it be due to the blessings and merits I’ve accumulated from healing and saving lives? Perhaps the Thunder Tribulation found a reason to flee because of my accrued virtues?” Zhao Gou speculated involuntarily.
However, these questions seemed inconsequential now. After all, he had indeed reached the Golden Core stage, significantly enhancing his cultivation base. Zhao Gou’s excitement surged.
With his elevated power, he believed revisiting his medical practice would likely yield no further mishaps. He decided to give it another try.
Soon after, Zhao Gou descended the mountain without hesitation. As an elder, he enjoyed the freedom to come and go as he pleased.
Time flew by, and three days had passed.
Zhao Gou’s mood was exceptionally high.
During these three days, he once again demonstrated that the previous deaths were not related to his medical skills at all.
He successfully saved countless lives.
Moreover, since reaching the Golden Core stage, his mastery of medicine grew even stronger.
For minor ailments, merely his presence could dispel them instantly.
Even complex illnesses required only a slight intervention from him, effortlessly eliminating all suffering!
Zhao Gou felt incredibly contented, relishing the sensation of healing the world once more.
“I’ve finally proven myself again!” Zhao Gou’s eyes welled up with emotional tears.
Suddenly, as Zhao Gou approached a secluded cliff edge, noticing no one around, he opened his mouth wide and shouted:
“I am not the Fatal Doctor… waaah…”
Before he could finish, someone swiftly covered his mouth with a Talisman.
Then, they enveloped him entirely within a large qiankun pouch.
Next, another individual pressed down on him, sealing the pouch’s opening.
Finally, two people effortlessly lifted the sealed pouch and carried it away.
Within Jing Shui City.
Lin Wudao sat weakly on a wheelchair,
Wrapped entirely in blankets and clutching a warming stove in their lap.
Before them lay two individuals:
Cao Linyuan and Chen Dahai.
“Did these two also perish under the Thunder Tribulation?”
The Shadow Guard pushing the wheelchair nodded.
“Yes, although there was no thunder, the charred injuries on their bodies clearly indicate it was caused by a Thunder Tribulation!”
A peculiar expression flickered across Lin Wudao’s eyes.
Then, they turned to Lu Cheng, who appeared equally frail like themselves.
“Tell me, what did you experience at that moment?”
Lu Cheng caught his breath for a while before gasping out, “I-I was just setting up my stall as usual when suddenly, I felt an intense shock throughout my body, akin to being electrocuted!”
“I-I sensed something was terribly wrong and frantically consumed healing Medicine Pills while stabilizing my cultivation base. It drained nearly all my resources, but I managed to survive.”
Lin Wudao nodded.
“Did you feel unusually cold during this incident?”
Lu Cheng looked puzzled, unsure how to respond.
“It’s alright now!” Lin Wudao tightened the blanket around themselves once more.
Then, they glanced at the Shadow Guard.
“Have you captured Zhao Gou?”
The Shadow Guard affirmed with a nod.
“Where is he?”
“In the backyard! However, considering he could enlist your assistance in Transcending Tribulations, sir, I dared not inflict any punishment without your permission!”
Lin Wudao nodded approvingly.
“Well done. Take me to see him!”
The Shadow Guard acknowledged the command and wheeled Lin Wudao towards the backyard.
Zhao Gou’s face turned pale as he took in the sight of the backyard filled with grotesque totems made from human heads.
Additionally, there were various unnerving objects stitched together using human skin, resembling flags yet not quite so.
Trembling uncontrollably, Zhao Gou realized that despite being a Golden Core powerhouse, someone had silently abducted him here. The sheer strength of his captor was chilling.
Moreover, Zhao Gou discerned one crucial fact: this definitely wasn’t the work of the Heavenly God Cult. Given their deep-seated hatred for him, if they had captured him, he would likely have been transformed into a Blood Puppet by now. Knowing it wasn’t them only added to his distress.
“Who the hell did I piss off? Why do enemies lurk around every corner!” Zhao Gou lamented. “This makes no sense! Even aside from those accidental deaths among the Heavenly God Cult spies – pure coincidences, really – considering my past efforts to heal and save lives, how could I possibly have so many enemies everywhere?”
Feeling utterly despondent, Zhao Gou heard:
“Creak~”
At that moment, the door to the yard opened.
Zhao Gou anxiously turned to look.
What he saw left him almost incredulous.
There stood the City Lord of Jing Shui City, yet amidst this sweltering heat, why was he holding a furnace and wrapped in a cotton quilt?
But that wasn’t the main concern.
The crucial point was:
Why was the City Lord of Jing Shui City so frail? And more importantly, what am I being grabbed for?
Lin Wudao glanced at Zhao Gou, then looked over his masterpiece in the backyard with a satisfied smile. “These are all my enemies, individuals who sought to harm me. Therefore, as retribution, I transform them into works of art!”
Pausing briefly, Lin Wudao fixed his gaze on Zhao Gou. “So, be honest now! It can spare you some unnecessary pain!”
Zhao Gou blinked, puzzled. “Explain what?”
Lin Wudao’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Chuckle, keep pretending!” He smiled sardonically. “Since you’re unwilling to cooperate, I’ll have no choice but to employ some special methods!”
Lin Wudao turned to the Shadow Guard.
Taken aback, the Shadow Guard hesitated. “But sir!”
“Proceed!”
The Shadow Guard nodded reluctantly. “Yes, sir!”
Moments later, agonizing screams echoed from Zhao Gou…
