- Chapter 105 - Yama Says, Fate at Three O'Clock
As midnight approached, Lord Seventh still hadn’t taken any action.
The constant fear and pain in her liver reminded her that what she needed most was proper rest and recuperation.
Yet for some inexplicable reason, as the night deepened, her sense of dread and unease intensified.
Returning to her tent, Lord Seventh observed that her subordinates mirrored her own feelings – anxious, fearful, and tensely scanning their surroundings.
Her eyes were filled with confusion and bewilderment.
“Why has it come to this? And more importantly, just what are we here for?”
At that moment, Seventh’s waist token suddenly flew outwards. Following closely, a shadowy figure emerged, draped in a black robe with its face obscured.
Upon seeing Lord Seventh seated in her wheelchair and the visibly weakened members of the Heaven Wrath Temple, the apparition froze for several seconds, seemingly stunned.
After an unknown period of time, the shadow finally asked, “What happened to all of you?”
Taking another sip of chrysanthemum tea, Seventh shook her head blankly, “I don’t know!”
The apparition didn’t press further on this matter.
“Have you obtained the Dust Cleansing Gourd?”
This was the question that truly concerned the shadowy figure.
However, upon hearing ‘Dust Cleansing Gourd,’ Seventh began to tremble uncontrollably.
Suddenly, she vaguely saw two figures looming before her, growing increasingly larger in her vision.
Not only that, but their faces wore sinister grins.
One emanated a green glow, while the other held a black gourd.
Then, as if in slow motion, Seventh witnessed both figures extending massive hands towards her.
“No, no, no, NO! Don’t! Ah…” With a sudden jolt, Seventh leaped from her wheelchair and fled madly into the distance, as if possessed.
The apparition stared, bewildered. “What’s wrong with her?”
Looking at the other members of the Heaven Wrath Temple, they were all drooling, eyes vacant.
“Bababa, heh-heh-heh, Bababa…”
The apparition was utterly shocked.
At the Heaven Wrath Temple’s Main Temple:
The Deputy Temple Lord, upon hearing his subordinate’s report, wore an expression filled with disbelief.
“Seventh Fury has gone mad? And everyone she took along has also become mentally deranged?”
The person clad in black robes nodded affirmatively.
“Yes, it’s even worse than anticipated. Seventh seems to have suffered severe psychological trauma. Especially at night, she hides in corners, trembling uncontrollably, as if being pursued by some immense terror.”
The Deputy Temple Lord furrowed his brow.
“What about the Dust Cleansing Gourd?”
Black Robe shook his head.
“Vanished without a trace!”
“And Leng Shuang?”
“Also disappeared!”
The Deputy Temple Lord fell silent once more.
This was unprecedented for the Heaven Wrath Temple, experiencing consecutive failures and having no clue what had transpired. It left them utterly bewildered.
For an organization that prided itself on knowing everything, this uncertainty was deeply unsettling.
Naturally, the Deputy Temple Lord swiftly responded.
“Since our plan for Qin Province has failed, we must find another opportunity to execute it. The opening of the ancient secret realm cannot be delayed further; missing this chance will render all future efforts futile.”
“This time, you personally lead a group to Qin Province as backup. We must secure both the Heaven-Mending Pill and the Mountains and Rivers Seal at any cost. Neither should fall into Ji Suying’s hands.”
The black-robed figure nodded.
“I understand, Temple Lord.”
The Deputy Temple Lord looked at him curiously.
“Why do you always hold your waist? What’s troubling you?”
A hint of confusion flickered in the black-robed figure’s eyes.
“Not sure, but ever since returning from Qin Province, I’ve been experiencing some discomfort in my liver area!”
The Deputy Temple Lord tapped his fingers on the chair armrest.
“Your symptoms seem similar to Seventh Fury’s! Did anything unusual happen while you were there?”
The black-robed figure shook his head.
“No, not really. Just occasionally, I feel like I forget certain things, but nothing serious!”
The Deputy Temple Lord nodded and waved, signaling the black-robed figure to leave.
Exiting the Main Temple of Heaven Wrath Temple, Black Robe felt puzzled.
He strained to recall his investigation of the Dust Cleansing Gourd in Qin Province.
Specifically, how he had suddenly fallen asleep during that time.
What exactly happened before losing consciousness?
Why did his liver, similar to the Seventh Fury, start throbbing with pain every night?
Even now, when the Deputy Temple Lord assigned him to lead a team for assistance in Qin Province, he inexplicably felt resistant to going there.
“What’s so peculiar about Qin Province? Why do I get a sense it’s like venturing into a den of dragons and tigers?” Black Robe pondered as he walked, frowning slightly.
“Boom!”
Without warning, he made a swift move.
Instantly, from the shadows, he grabbed hold of a figure enveloped in black mist.
“Who are you, and why are you here?”
The corner of the misty figure’s mouth curved upwards, revealing a sinister smile.
“You can’t escape, but you may cling to life for a while longer. When Yama decrees your death at midnight, you won’t see dawn. Make the most of your remaining moments… ah ha ha, ha ha ha…”
With a sickening crunch…
Black Robe crushed the figure effortlessly.
He held nothing but contempt for this eerie person and their cryptic words.
“Hmph, stop playing tricks!” scoffed Black Robe.
However, in the very next moment, his expression turned stunned.
He watched as black mist surged and, before long, the person he had crushed moments ago began to reassemble and revive.
With another eerie smile, the individual then vanished without a trace.
The black-robed figure’s face darkened, perplexed by what manner of supernatural force he had just encountered. Nevertheless, fear did not grip him.
“Hmph, Yama, if you dare show yourself, I’ll make you understand…”
But mid-sentence, Black Robe trailed off.
A sudden vision flashed through his mind – he glimpsed two figures with menacing grins.
As this image flickered across his thoughts, cold sweat drenched his body.
“Ha…ha…ha…” His heart involuntarily raced, causing his breath to become rapid and labored.
Finally, with a thud, he collapsed onto the ground, his body trembling uncontrollably. His eyes began to lose focus.
This man died, right outside the Heaven Wrath Temple, fulfilling the ominous words uttered earlier:
“If Yama decrees your death at midnight,
You won’t see the dawn break.”
It was now tragically proven true.
Lin Wudao glanced at the Book of Destiny, watching as the crossed-out name of Hei Ze gradually faded away.
With that, he put away the Book and the brush.
Naturally, once Hei Ze’s name disappeared from the Book of Destiny, Lin Wudao’s cultivation base experienced another significant advancement.
Speechless, Lin Wudao contemplated his initial strategy: if unable to overcome an obstacle, temporarily join it. As long as he didn’t become an enemy of Liu Shunyi, there was no downside.
The Yama Palace had been purely unexpected, but this twist turned out to be a great opportunity for Lin Wudao.
“This is truly remarkable,” he murmured.
Suddenly, Lin Wudao recalled encountering a fortune-telling old man when leaving the Holy Land. In jest, he had asked, “Where should I go?”
The fortune teller replied, “To Qin Province. Your path ahead will be smooth, filled with immense destiny and opportunities awaiting you!”
As he gazed upon the current Yama Palace, Lin Wudao fell silent, reflecting on how fate had unfolded.
