- Chapter 103 - Never Encountered Such a Unique Presence Before
“So hurry up and come with us!” another skeleton wrote on the ground.
The old man’s mind was still in utter confusion, baffled by these three ancestors’ actions.
My ability to emit light and warmth is harmful to them? What kind of reasoning is this?
However, he couldn’t argue against the three skulls. With a sigh, he yielded.
“Fine, fine, I’ll do as you say, Ancestors!”
“But I’m hungry; at least let me eat something before we continue our journey!”
The three skulls exchanged glances, then nodded in agreement.
Shortly after, the old man arrived at a small nearby town and randomly picked a local eatery.
As soon as he sat down, fear nearly made him jump out of his seat.
The restaurant was packed with patrons.
However, that wasn’t the main issue.
What alarmed the old man was the sight of blood aura emanating from every person present.
“This is…a harbinger of bloodshed!”
His gaze scanned the room, spotting multiple groups affected by this ominous sign.
Yet upon closer inspection, confusion filled his face.
“Sir, what would you like to order?” asked a waiter approaching him.
The old man glanced at the waiter and chuckled awkwardly, “Apologies, I seem to have forgotten my money!”
With that, he hastily left.
He then found another less crowded restaurant, chose a private booth, and ordered some food casually.
Ensuring no one was around, the old man whispered urgently:
“Three Ancestors, are you here?”
Shuffle!
Just as he finished speaking, three skeletons swung down from the ceiling beams, their eyes fixed on the old man.
This startled him so much that he momentarily forgot to breathe.
“Ancestors, please don’t scare me like that! At my age, my heart can’t take it.”
One of the skeletons took a slate and scribbled a message swiftly.
“What did you call us for?”
Finally, the old man voiced his perplexing observation.
“Ancestor, I just divined a peculiar omen regarding those individuals we saw earlier. They all face impending bloodshed, but strangely, it won’t harm or injure them. What’s baffling is that this bloodshed seems both stable yet unstable, flickering as if dancing!”
“In my entire life, I’ve never encountered such an omen!”
The three skulls stared back, bewildered.
A long silence ensued.
Finally, the old man cautiously asked, “Could it be that my divination skills are lacking?”
The three skulls vanished momentarily.
Soon after, they reappeared with their bones turning green.
They grabbed the old man, urging him to leave.
“Hold on, Ancestors, where are we going? I haven’t even…”
Before he could finish, the three skulls abruptly collapsed in a row, lying still with arms crossed over their chests, appearing remarkably serene.
The old man was utterly confused.
What’s happening here?
Just then, he heard a familiar voice:
“When practicing medicine nearby, I often ate at this restaurant. Don’t let its small size fool you; the food is exceptional!”
Zhao Gou and Liu Shunyi entered from outside.
Taken aback, the old man waved towards Zhao Gou, intending to greet him.
Suddenly, one of the skulls leaped up, covered his mouth, hastily dragged him into a private booth, and slammed the door shut with a loud thud.
Liu Shunyi glanced towards the old man’s direction, uncertain.
“Brother Zhao, I think I just saw that fortune-teller again!”
Zhao Gou was taken aback.
“Where?”
Liu Shunyi pointed to the private room where the old man was seated.
At that moment, the skeleton covering the old man’s mouth lay back down, remaining motionless.
Liu Shunyi and Zhao Gou approached the entrance of the private room.
With a push, the door creaked open.
Inside, they spotted the old man spitting out a finger bone from his mouth, while three complete skeletons lay on the floor nearby.
A moment of silence filled the air.
The old man hastily began explaining.
“These three are my ancestors. You know, our family grave was destroyed recently? So, I’ve been searching for a new auspicious burial site with good feng shui.”
“Just now, while moving my ancestors, I accidentally sneezed, and… well, what a coincidence!” he chuckled nervously.
Liu Shunyi and Zhao Gou nodded, feeling reassured.
Zhao Gou then smiled warmly.
“How convenient! Since we’re acquaintances here, let’s have a drink together. My treat!”
Hearing that Zhao Gou would be paying, the old man naturally couldn’t refuse.
However, observing him closely, Zhao Gou suggested, “Why don’t you give me another divination?”
The old man scratched his head. “What do you wish to know this time?”
Zhao Gou remained persistent.
“Tell me, what kind of person will I become in the future?”
Since joining Liu Shunyi, although Zhao Gou hadn’t committed any wrongdoings himself, he had a nagging feeling that their actions were not entirely virtuous. This prompted him to seek another reading from the old man.
The old man responded, “Your birth date and time!”
Zhao Gou nodded in agreement.
After obtaining Zhao Gou’s birth details, the old man began his divination process.
Moments later, the old man’s eyes widened dramatically.
“You, you will be revered by all under heaven! Everyone who meets you shall pay homage, and I even saw these words written clearly!”
Zhao Gou was overjoyed.
“What does it say?”
The old man raised his eyebrows.
“Savior of The Suffering, Heavenly Venerable Zhao!”
Zhao Gou’s excitement surged uncontrollably.
“Really?!”
The old man nodded firmly.
Zhao Gou felt as giddy as a child.
“Brother Liu, did you hear that? In the future, I’ll be known as the Savior of The Suffering, Heavenly Venerable Zhao! This means my medical skills will become renowned throughout the land!”
Liu Shunyi congratulated him sincerely, “So now, there’s no need for concern anymore, right?”
Zhao Gou nodded enthusiastically.
In his delight, Zhao Gou suddenly turned to the old man.
“Why don’t you also read Brother Liu’s fortune?”
The old man studied Liu Shunyi’s features, hesitated briefly, and then agreed with a nod.
“All right, give me your birth date and time!”
Hesitating for a moment, Liu Shunyi shared his birth date from when he had first crossed over to this world, providing it to the old man.
The old man began divining.
“Hmm? Hmm…?”
He recalculated several times, then fell into deep thought.
Zhao Gou furrowed his brow.
“Well, what’s your verdict? What’s going on here?”
The old man seemed uncertain.
“Brother Liu, although not as renowned as you, is known as a true gentleman with unwavering integrity. His reputation isn’t immense but certainly not insignificant either.”
However, amidst that swirling black aura, could it truly signify such noble righteousness?
Zhao Gou stared, bewildered.
“Unwavering integrity?” He looked at Liu Shunyi, finding it hard to believe.
Liu Shunyi was speechless.
“What’s with that look? Is it not true?”
Zhao Gou fell silent, his previously light mood suddenly soured.
“Ai, indeed, the Dao of Fortune Telling cannot be trusted.”
Liu Shunyi’s face darkened.
“I feel like you’re insulting me!”
Zhao Gou smiled.
“No, really not. I just think fortune telling can’t be relied upon.”
Liu Shunyi sighed.
As soon as the Heaven Wrath Temple members left, Liu Shunyi courteously bowed to the old man.
“Many thanks, esteemed sir.”
With those words, he tossed the old man a thousand Spirit Stones and took his leave.
Zhao Gou followed suit, departing alongside him.
Just after Liu Shunyi and Zhao Gou left, the three skeletons sprang into action. One delivered a flying kick, knocking the old man to the ground. The other two grabbed stools, joining in for a full-on brawl.
“S-s-stop hitting me!”
