Thanks to My Enemy, I Become Immortal Emperor - Chapter 102
Over the past few days, Leng Shuang had been secretly investigating the disappearance of the Heaven Wrath Temple members.
During her investigation, she felt increasingly uneasy and fearful.
The circumstances surrounding their vanishing were truly bizarre.
Initially, Leng Shuang had prepared herself for death, even selecting a burial site.
However, to her surprise, the investigation proceeded remarkably smoothly, almost suspiciously so.
It seemed that whenever she sought information, it would quietly or coincidentally reach her ears.
Eventually, through hints both direct and indirect, her search led her to a cave.
Upon arriving there, Leng Shuang’s legs went weak with fear.
She found the corpses of Heaven Wrath Temple members scattered around, as if they had endured a fierce battle.
Strangely, she noticed their weapons embedded within each other’s bodies.
“Was this…a self-inflicted massacre?” Leng Shuang quickly concluded.
Continuing deeper into the cave, she suddenly spotted a black gourd emitting intense dark light.
“A treasured artifact?” Leng Shuang was astounded.
She couldn’t determine the gourd’s quality at all.
Moreover, despite its allure, she harbored no greed to claim it for herself. With the entire Heaven Wrath Temple wiped out, she lacked the courage to touch such an object.
Leng Shuang cautiously retreated from the scene.
After marking the location, she hastily contacted the remaining members of the Heaven Wrath Temple.
“What? A Supreme Treasure? Did everyone from the Heaven Wrath Temple die for that treasure?”
Leng Shuang nodded.
“From what I’ve observed, it seems so.”
The communication token fell silent for a moment before asking, “Describe the gourd’s appearance in detail.”
Leng Shuang peered into the cave and then replied, “The gourd is pitch-black but emits a strong emerald green glow. Being enveloped by this green light feels quite comforting.”
The other end remained quiet for a while.
“And besides that? Are there any other distinctive features!”
Leng Shuang looked again, only to be startled as if she had seen a ghost.
She noticed the gourd using its leafy tendrils to grab a backscratcher and start scratching itself!
Uncertain at first, Leng Shuang rubbed her eyes and took another look.
By then, the gourd had resumed its stillness.
Swallowing nervously, she said, “I don’t think there are any other notable features!”
The communication token stayed silent for a long time, with Leng Shuang even hearing faint sounds of pages being flipped.
After an unknown duration, the voice spoke once more.
“Go check the backside of the gourd; does it have a pattern resembling a smiling face?”
Leng Shuang paled. “Th-that… I…”
“Stop stalling and quickly check it.”
“Fine!”
Gathering her courage, Leng Shuang lifted her skirt carefully, stepping over each corpse one by one, until she finally reached the back of the gourd.
As expected.
There indeed was a smiling face on the reverse side.
Leng Shuang promptly responded, “Yes, there is!”
The other end questioned further.
“Is that smile very benevolent?”
Confused, Leng Shuang stared at the menacing grin on the gourd, unsure how to describe it.
“Speak up!”
Startled, Leng Shuang hastily replied, “I suppose you could call it benevolent!”
“What do you mean ‘suppose’?”
Just then, Leng Shuang noticed a drop of water falling from the cave’s ceiling, perfectly landing at the corner of the gourd’s smiling mouth. It looked as if the gourd were drooling at him.
Terrified, Leng Shuang turned pale-faced and swiftly fled the scene.
“It’s nothing; just that the smile seems overly benevolent,” she muttered under her breath.
However, chaos erupted within the Heaven Wrath Temple.
“The Supreme Treasure, the Dust Cleansing Gourd!” They became visibly agitated.
Immediately, they instructed, “Guard that location strictly. Do not let anyone approach.”
With those words, the communication ended.
Leng Shuang glanced at the pile of corpses, her body trembling uncontrollably.
“I… Ah, this is unbearable!” She felt deeply distressed.
Leng Shuang, being naturally timid, found guarding these corpses unbearable.
In distress, she curled up in a corner, covering her face with both hands.
“Pffft…”
Suddenly, someone let out a fart.
Leng Shuang stared, bewildered.
Then, an unforgettable scene unfolded before her eyes. All the corpses turned their heads to look at one particular individual, who appeared quite embarrassed.
“I… couldn’t hold it back!”
“Ahh…” Leng Shuang screamed in shock.
Immediately, the group of corpses shifted their gaze towards her, some still dripping blood from their faces.
Overwhelmed, Leng Shuang fainted and collapsed onto the ground.
This caused the corpses to become restless. One of them grabbed the person responsible for the fart and proceeded to pummel him mercilessly.
“You damn fool! If you mess up King Yama’s plan, we’ll all suffer consequences. Have you forgotten the methods those two employ?”
The beaten individual felt deeply wronged.
“It wasn’t intentional! B-but I just couldn’t hold it back!”
“Hold on, stop beating him. What should we do about this girl?”
A momentary silence fell over the group.
“Put her back in the same position as before; we’ll lie down again.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
They carefully repositioned Leng Shuang, curled up on the ground with her hands still covering her face.
Then, all the corpses lay down once more.
Everything returned to calmness.
“Tap-tap-tap-tap…”
At that moment, the three skulls’ mouths trembled incessantly, as if trying to speak. However, all they could produce were tapping sounds.
The old man surrounded by these skulls felt overwhelmed, almost on the verge of tears.
“Ancestors, since we can’t communicate verbally, how about writing it down? You three old bones, constantly rattling at me with those clacking noises, is making me anxious!”
“Bump~”
One of the robed skulls gently tapped the old man’s head with its hand drum. Then, picking up a twig, it began writing on the ground:
“Come, follow us!”
The old man’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“No, Ancestors, I’m not ready to leave yet! Are you really taking me now?”
“Bump~”
Another skull lightly struck the old man’s head before also writing on the ground:
“You must come; there’s a demon nearby. If you don’t, your fate will be sealed!”
The old man stared bewilderedly at his three ancestors.
Wait, what?
Are you skulls missing brains or something? I’m on the verge of achieving great success; why would I leave now?
“Tap, tap, tap… Tap, tap, tap-tap-tap…”
Another skull approached the old man.
Its jaw continuously moved up and down as it pointed towards the sky, then to the ground, followed by a bone-clapping gesture before spreading its arms wide.
“Tap, tap, tap-tap-tap! (Do you understand now)?”
The old man’s face was filled with confusion.
He glanced at the other two skulls nearby.
“What is this Ancestor trying to say?”
One of the skulls wrote on the ground:
“From the heavens above to the earth below, chaos will engulf this world, leading to an impending Grand Tribulation. If you do not leave, you’ll be consumed amidst this tribulation, which would not bode well for us. Do you comprehend now!”
The old man remained speechless.
