Suddenly Became a Boy – What Should I Do? - Chapter 75.1
“Hahahahaha—”
After an extended silence, Lin Xin, Cheng Shiyin, and Cheng Shiyin’s mother burst into synchronized laughter, their amusement lingering awkwardly. Then, as if on cue, they reached for their water glasses to cover up the lingering awkwardness. But no matter how they tried to mask it, the thick air of discomfort remained, impossible to dissipate even with an industrial-strength fan.
From the kitchen, Cheng Shiyin sped up her cooking. Moving with hurried precision, as if her dishes were restless teenagers eager to leave, she called out, “Dinner’s ready! Dinner’s ready!” She carried the dishes to the dining table, hoping to ease the atmosphere.
With Lin Xin’s knack for awkward jokes and Cheng Shiyin’s mother’s natural tendency to stir things up, the combination was bound to create chaos. To minimize potential embarrassment, stuffing their mouths with food seemed like the best solution.
When Lin Xin saw Cheng Shiyin emerge with plates in both hands, he quickly ran to her side to take them, saying, “Leave this rough work to me!” After carefully placing the dishes at the center of the table, he dashed into the kitchen.
This small act finally earned Lin Xin a positive impression from Cheng Shiyin’s mother. “He’s in good shape, and that explosive sprinting power isn’t bad at all,” she thought.
In the kitchen, Lin Xin intercepted Cheng Shiyin again before she could carry out another dish. Gently taking the plate from her hands, he placed it firmly on the countertop—a silent witness to many past mishaps. Without warning, he threw himself into Cheng Shiyin’s arms, wrapping his arms tightly around her waist and refusing to let go. He even playfully pinched her, making her squirm and giggle, her half-hearted punches on his back more like a shy protest.
“I messed up! Your mom doesn’t like me!” Lin Xin whined. Seeing Cheng Shiyin about to push him away, he added dramatically, “I’m not as good-looking as you—just walking into a room makes my mom’s eyes water!”
Cheng Shiyin, hearing this, abandoned her struggle. Smiling, she lovingly patted Lin Xin’s head and replied, “Don’t exaggerate so much.” But inside, she was beaming with pride. “Well, of course! I spent hours perfecting my makeup. Do you think I was just zoning out in front of the mirror?” she thought.
“Sigh… If only I were as amazing as you. I have no idea what kind of dumb luck brought a goddess like you into my life.” Lin Xin’s stream of compliments didn’t stop, though Cheng Shiyin didn’t find them entirely pleasing. His little habit of self-deprecation was creeping back.
In response, Cheng Shiyin wrapped her arms around him and whispered softly in his ear, “You’re the book I never tire of reading, the mystery box I can never fully predict. You’re always surprising me in the best ways, and only you can do that. You’re one of a kind, Lin Xin. You know that, right?”
Before Lin Xin could answer, Cheng Shiyin playfully tapped his forehead and said, “Alright, now let me go. The food’s getting cold.”
“Nope, not letting go,” Lin Xin teased, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. Though his words feigned reluctance, his joy was undeniable—his grin nearly stretching from ear to ear. He stuck out his lips in mock protest, his pout giving way to a playfully petulant tone. For someone over six feet tall, his antics could rival those of a seasoned expert in cuteness.
“How about this,” Cheng Shiyin offered, half laughing. “If I kiss you, will you let me go?”
Instead of agreeing, Lin Xin suddenly straightened up, stole a kiss from her lips, and declared smugly, “If you want to kiss me, just say so! No need for negotiations—so much trouble!” He darted out of the kitchen, chuckling as he saw her feigned anger. His legs slightly numb from squatting, he waddled out of the kitchen like a reluctant penguin.
