Suddenly Became a Boy – What Should I Do? - Chapter 72.2
“Uh… my dormmates were gaming. Too loud,” Lin Xin lied smoothly, stepping onto the balcony. Turning his phone’s camera to the sky, he said, “Look, the moon’s so round tonight.”
Setting her pen aside, Cheng Shiyin lifted her phone to admire the same moon, letting her thoughts slip. “I miss you.” It had only been six hours since they parted.
Lin Xin smiled. Though they had just resumed school and Cheng Shiyin had started a new internship, their schedules left little time to be together. The earliest they could meet again would be Friday night.
On Friday, Lin Xin bolted out of class and headed straight to Cheng Shiyin’s school. Despite her reminders not to arrive too early—she had a mandatory meeting that wouldn’t end until after 7 PM—Lin Xin couldn’t wait. He felt as if she were his lifeline; the closer he was to her, the more energy he had.
Humming a cheerful tune, Lin Xin clutched a fresh bouquet of flowers, purchased with “approved romance funds” from his mother. His oversized frame hopped down the road like a giant rabbit, his bouncy enthusiasm shaking the pavement. The thought of seeing Cheng Shiyin brightened his face like sunshine after a long storm, causing pedestrians to squint as they shielded their eyes from his radiant grin.
Although it was still over two hours before the agreed meeting time, Lin Xin staked out a spot near the school’s gate, striking the most ostentatious pose he could muster.
“Hey, kiddo. Waiting for your girlfriend?”
His conspicuous stance immediately drew the attention of a man in sportswear, who approached him directly.
“Uh… yeah,” Lin Xin replied, slightly caught off guard.
The mature man’s face was full of teasing amusement, and Lin Xin instantly felt like it was Lunar New Year all over again—cornered by nosy relatives endlessly prying into his love life. His face turned red under the man’s gaze, which only seemed to delight the man further. Laughing heartily, he exclaimed, “What a young buck you are!”
However, the man didn’t leave after his laugh. Instead, he draped an arm over Lin Xin’s shoulder and launched into an unsolicited monologue.
“You must be a college student, right? You look about the age.”
Lin Xin didn’t respond. “So what if I am?”
The man, apparently considering himself a modern-day Sherlock Holmes, continued, “I heard our school recently got a batch of intern teachers. All of them are college students.”
Lin Xin shot him a sidelong glance. “Okay, maybe he’s got a brain after all.”
“And they’re all so young and beautiful,” the man added, though his phrasing could use some work. “I’d love to have a college-student girlfriend myself.” Smiling, he asked, “Is your girlfriend pretty?”
“Pretty?” Lin Xin thought indignantly. “Take the ‘pretty’ and add ‘heavenly beauty descended to earth,’ and you’re still not close.” Hugging his bouquet tightly, he stepped back cautiously, ignoring the man.
But the man wasn’t about to let him go. Being a P.E. teacher, he was quick on his feet and chased after Lin Xin. “Hey, hey, hey! Why are you running? I’m not a bad guy. I’m just curious,” he explained. “I’m actually waiting for someone here too. It’s just boring waiting alone, so I thought I’d chat for a bit.”
