The paparazzo, seeing nothing suspicious and finding no opportunity for further scoops, abandoned the story and slunk away. Unaware of this, Lin Xin lay in the operating room and cheerfully asked, “How long do I have to lie here before I can leave?”

None of the medical staff responded, too focused on preparing for the procedure. Lin Xin observed them sidelong, noting their realistic preparations. He thought, “They’re really selling it, huh?”

Then, in the next instant, all the staff converged on him, pinning his limbs down as the anesthesiologist approached with a syringe in hand.

Lin Xin was too shocked to react. Suddenly, his pants were pulled down, and the anesthetist’s syringe—with its long, thin needle—was injected at the base of that thing.

“Ah!” he yelped, though it didn’t hurt. The local anesthesia seemed to have worked; he couldn’t feel anything there anymore. However, his mind was still sharp—too sharp, perhaps—and the loss of sensation only heightened his unease. Lin Xin’s eyes were glued to the gleaming surgical knife in the doctor’s hand, his body frozen stiff. It was almost like full anesthesia, as he dared not even twitch for fear that one slip would undo everything and return him to being female.

While Lin Xin was overwhelmed by his fears, the medical staff chatted away cheerfully, clearly unfazed by what they saw as a routine procedure. For Lin Xin, the surreal sight of people laughing and joking about his lower half was deeply unsettling.

Though he understood that their banter was meant to put him at ease, he couldn’t bring himself to engage. Instead, he listened carefully, hoping to glean why he was enduring real surgery despite the whole situation supposedly being staged. Unfortunately, their conversation was an endless stream of jokes and small talk, offering no answers.

Except for one phrase that stuck out: “Now that we’re here.”

Lin Xin couldn’t help but groan internally. “Of course. The phrase that Chinese people love to use for every inconvenient situation.”

The procedure wasn’t over yet.

As Lin Xin lay on the operating table, a faint smell of charred meat reached his nose. It didn’t take long for him to realize that his own flesh was burning. He now understood perfectly what was happening.

It was just a minor procedure—one nearly every man would experience at some point.

After ten more agonizing minutes, the surgeon set down his knife, and Lin Xin let out a long sigh of relief. They wrapped the area in a layer of elastic gauze, then a layer of regular gauze, and declared the operation a success.

The doctor, evidently proud of his work, held up a bloody piece of tissue and brought it closer to Lin Xin, boasting, “Look how clean and even my incision is!”

Lin Xin glanced at the object, immediately regretting it. His vision swam, and he fainted on the spot.

Two hours later, Lin Xin woke up, not in the familiar comfort of his VIP room, but in a crowded urology ward filled with elementary school-aged children.

The children were engrossed in their mobile games and paid no attention to the older newcomer in the room. Their parents, however, couldn’t ignore him. Every mother cast Lin Xin a strange, scrutinizing look, while every father gave a knowing, sympathetic glance that sent chills down his spine. As if on cue, they all curled their lips in faint, sardonic smiles, as though laughing at Lin Xin’s naivety.

At that moment, Lin Xin couldn’t fully comprehend what he was going through.

Though the anesthesia had long worn off, a couple of painkillers made the physical discomfort manageable. What truly pierced him was the heat of the judgmental gazes surrounding him.

Struggling to sit up, Lin Xin reached for the call button and pressed it. When the nurse arrived, he asked, “Why am I here? Isn’t this supposed to be a VIP room?”

The nurse hesitated before replying, “I’m sorry, but your VIP room reservation expired. If you’d like, you can pay to extend your stay, and we’ll move you back.”

“…”
