The physical training instructor glanced briefly at the row of frail-looking students in front of him, then buried his face in the attendance list with a deep sigh before calling out the names.

“Zhang San,” he droned.

“Here!” came the weak reply.

“Li Si,” another sigh.

“Here!” echoed back.

By the time he reached the end of the list, his voice had withered into a series of weary sighs. He had taken the job of a PE teacher out of love for sports, but ever since being assigned this class of unfit students, he found himself growing a belly instead of cultivating any passion for fitness.

Finally, he reached the last name on the list. Calling it out lethargically, he said, “Lin Xin,” mentally preparing himself for another two hours of aimless babysitting. He was completely unprepared for the hearty “Here!” that reached his ears—a voice that didn’t match the “female” listed on his roster at all.

Frustration surged as he arched an eyebrow, scrutinizing Lin Xin’s face. He thought, “What am I supposed to say to this?” Was the class playing him for a fool? If they were going to send a stand-in, couldn’t they at least find someone vaguely similar?” He thought, “And if the substitute was going to be a man, couldn’t he bother to check that the attendance sheet included gender?”

The teacher beckoned Lin Xin impatiently, saying, “You. Come here.” His tone dripped with annoyance.

Lin Xin, unbothered, walked over with a calm smile, as if he had expected this reaction. In just two steps, he somehow produced a medical report and handed it to the teacher. “Sir, before you jump to conclusions, take a look at this.”

The teacher took the report skeptically, flipping it open. His expression turned from disbelief to stunned realization.

He thought, “It was Lin Xin… or rather, it was her?”

The report bore a photograph of Lin Xin from what seemed like years ago. Although the picture looked slightly different from the person standing in front of him, it still carried traces of their current features. The report confirmed her gender as female, though her listed height was a surprising 180 cm. The other physical measurements, based on the teacher’s years of experience, seemed accurate as well. Seeing no signs of guilt or hesitation on Lin Xin’s face, the teacher reasoned that she might have a hormonal imbalance. He made a mental note to recruit her for the next sports meet, then waved her off and resumed the class.

“Alright, since everyone’s here, let’s go over the rules for my class.” With the awkward moment behind them, the physical training class finally began.

But before the first 800-meter warm-up run was over, one of the frail girls collapsed, clutching her side. Her pale complexion convinced the teacher that she wasn’t faking, so he helped her to a bench and ordered the rest of the students to continue their warm-up laps.

Li Li, resigned to her weak constitution, sat quietly beside the teacher, assisting by timing laps with a stopwatch. She hadn’t expected to find someone exceptional—Lin Xin.

Compared to the typical college students, who could barely carry a backpack without breaking a sweat, Lin Xin was strikingly different. With just a faint sheen of sweat on his brow, he ran effortlessly, his strides smooth and controlled.

Initially scanning aimlessly, Li Li soon focused entirely on Lin Xin. She tossed the stopwatch aside, pulled out her phone, and, unnoticed by the teacher, began snapping pictures of Lin Xin’s smooth, effortless strides.

When Lin Xin finished his 800 meters, Li Li approached him, handing over a tissue and a bottle of water. “How are you so amazing?” she asked, genuinely impressed.

Lin Xin, ever modest, replied, “Oh, it’s nothing,” as he politely declined her offerings. As a dedicated boyfriend, he refused even casual gestures that might send the wrong signal. Besides, Lin Xin wasn’t entirely sure if there was an ulterior motive.

Li Li, unbothered by the rejection, wasn’t particularly disappointed. Her offer had been casual, and now she was more focused on using the close proximity to snap more photos. Her thumb moved deftly across the screen, capturing Lin Xin from every angle with rapid precision. After all, it had been a long time since she’d seen such a clean-cut, natural, and genuine boy.
