- Suddenly Became a Boy – What Should I Do?
- Chapter 61.1 - I Told You So (Expanded by 200 Words)
Swimming class was technically required but disguised as an elective, giving students the illusion of a democratic and free university. The class never appeared on the academic schedule, so when Lin Xin learned about it through the class notification group, he had less than a week to figure out how to handle this impending challenge.
Fortunately, Lin Xin had connections.
At this university, any problem Lin Xin faced could be solved with a word to Shang Xiaoxia. From there, Wu Lian, the son of a board member, would step in. For someone like Wu Lian, even mandatory physical exams could be bypassed with a single phone call. This time, he handed Lin Xin a pre-filled medical report stating, “The student has otitis media and should not participate in swimming classes.”
Students exempted from swimming due to medical reasons were instead required to complete a high-intensity physical fitness course to earn their credits. However, any so-called “high-intensity” activities graded on the female standard posed no challenge to Lin Xin. Failing was out of the question, and retaking the course was even less likely.
For Wu Lian, this minor favor barely required any effort. However, Lin Xin couldn’t help but wonder what would happen after graduation, when Wu Lian’s influence could no longer shield him.
Every lie has an expiration date. Lin Xin knew this all too well, and the nagging thought of his time running out had begun to seep into every corner of his mind.
Lin Xin had already experienced the fallout of a lie being exposed. While Cheng Shiyin had embraced him with unconditional love and rescued him emotionally, the overwhelming flood of negative feelings from that moment still haunted him. He didn’t want to endure it again.
So, even though the falsified medical report sat quietly in his drawer, ready to shield him from this round of scrutiny, Lin Xin made a bold decision. On the eve of the physical exam, he chose to confess everything to his two uninformed roommates.
It was a daring attempt, fraught with risk.
Unlike Shang Xiaoxia, who thrived on curiosity, or Cheng Shiyin, who had a foundation of deep affection, these two were just ordinary college students—the type who might find it hard to understand or accept something outside the norm, making Lin Xin’s revelation all the more precarious. Lin Xin had mentally rehearsed every worst-case scenario. Disgusted looks, the silent judgment of seeing him as a freak, or even his secret being broadcast publicly the next day and landing him on urban gossip shows he desperately wanted to avoid.
Better to take the initiative than wait to be exposed. At least this way, Lin Xin thought, he’d have some psychological preparation.
To be safe, Lin Xin had also stashed some “tools of persuasion” in the dorm. If things went south, he was ready to employ a trusty blunt object for a strategic memory-erasure operation.
The dormitory atmosphere was thick with tension, resembling a miniature tribunal. Four of them perched on small stools, facing each other with unblinking stares, as if locked in an unspoken contest of wills. On the desk, Cheng Shiyin’s video chat window was open, her face watching like a remote commander issuing orders.
When their eyes started to show veins from prolonged staring, Lin Xin turned his back nervously and applied eye drops. When he turned back, his tear-glossed gaze sparkled with sincerity. “Today, I need to tell you all something.”
“It’s a very serious matter.” He let the words hang, using the silence to build suspense and tension. He hoped his roommates’ imaginations would conjure up wild crimes like murder or arson. That way, when he finally revealed the truth, they might think, “Oh, it’s just a gender change? That’s nothing,” Lin Xin thought.
But his pause barely lasted two seconds before Zhang Yun interrupted, “You’re broke, aren’t you? Well, join the club. I don’t have any money to lend you!” As if to prove her point, she emptied her pockets, revealing absolutely nothing.
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Lin Xin thought.
