- Chapter 60.1 - A New Beginning (Expanded by 800 Words)
Lin Xin had truly become a young man now.
From a distance, Cheng Shiyin watched Lin Xin, now nearly six feet tall, running toward her with an unfamiliar gait that hinted at his recent transformation. His outfit, once well-fitting, now resembled the mismatched, outdated style of “Village Zhao Si,” a fashion disaster she’d once joked about.
She sighed deeply, muttering to herself, “Is it too late to break up now?”
The sound of her sigh didn’t escape Lin Xin’s newly enhanced “dog-like” ears. He sprinted toward her at full speed, stopping just short of colliding with her. “What’s wrong?” he asked, his concern evident. “Are you feeling unwell? Do you need to rest somewhere? Want some hot water?”
The deep, masculine timbre of Lin Xin’s voice filled Cheng Shiyin’s ears, reverberating like a magnetic echo. This was not the gentle, melodious tone of a woman. The deep vibrations wormed their way into her head, making her clasp her hands together as she chanted silently, “Don’t listen, don’t listen.”
Lin Xin’s sudden growth spurt left him struggling to navigate distances. What he thought was a gentle stop in front of Cheng Shiyin ended up being more like charging into her personal space. By the time he stopped, his long legs had carried him so close that the space between them vanished, leaving an almost intimate closeness.
What used to be their familiar eye-to-eye gaze had turned into Lin Xin’s warm breath brushing against Cheng Shiyin’s ears. The sensation sent shivers down her spine.
With Lin Xin so abruptly invading her comfort zone, Cheng Shiyin’s thoughts about his unfortunate fashion choices were wiped clean from her mind. Her gaze unconsciously shifted to his skin—his exposed neck, to be precise.
Even in winter, his neck, unprotected by a scarf, was an unguarded invitation. Unlike the rest of his body, concealed beneath layers of winter clothing, his neck was exposed, offering a strikingly vulnerable and alluring contrast. The skin there, a healthy wheat-gold hue, revealed perfectly taut neck muscles. The sternocleidomastoid, trapezius, and platysma stood out in precise harmony, as if his neck alone adhered to some hidden golden ratio—even if it had nothing to do with the famed 0.618.
“Damn,” Cheng Shiyin thought. “I like this Lin Xin even more.”
She swallowed, momentarily speechless as her thoughts scrambled to make sense of the scene.
If her initial attraction to Lin Xin stemmed from the innocent charm beneath his dark, gothic makeup, and her growing affection was fueled by the intense love radiating from his eyes, then this transformation was the cherry on top. Every change in his appearance seemed uncannily aligned with her preferences, as if fate itself had shaped him into her ideal match.
Ask her now what “breaking up” meant, and Cheng Shiyin might not even recognize the term. She was utterly enchanted, completely taken in by Lin Xin.
“What a devious liar he is,” she thought. “There’s no need for words or explanations anymore—let’s just have a proper romance!”
Clearing her throat, Cheng Shiyin suddenly had a bold idea. She felt an urge to reintroduce herself to this transformed version of Lin Xin, as if their story was starting anew. As a man and a woman, they could begin anew—two perspectives converging into one love story.
But before she could speak, Lin Xin, moving at lightning speed, ushered her to a nearby bench. Without a word, he disappeared for a moment and returned with a cup of perfectly warm snow pear soup.
Cheng Shiyin took the cup, sipped it gently, and immediately felt the soothing liquid melt over her tongue. She had no idea how Lin Xin had managed to find such high-quality soup so quickly, but the beads of sweat glistening on his forehead suggested it hadn’t been an easy task.
Even those drops of sweat, she thought absurdly, probably tasted sweet.
