Suddenly Became a Boy – What Should I Do? - Chapter 57.2
This transformation couldn’t have occurred too long ago, as it had somehow slipped past the rigorous college entrance medical examinations. He had clearly been keeping it a secret, struggling to come up with an explanation.
“Are all these documents… really yours?” Cheng Shiyin asked, closing the file.
“Yes,” Lin Xin replied firmly. He noticed the doubt in Cheng Shiyin’s eyes and quickly added, “If you don’t believe me, we can go to the police station tomorrow to verify my fingerprints. Would that help?”
“There’s no need. I believe you,” Cheng Shiyin immediately dismissed his suggestion. The evidence Lin Xin provided was thorough and undeniably authentic. There was no reason to doubt him. By simply observing Lin Xin’s expression, she could discern that he wasn’t lying. After all, no one would fabricate something so absurd; its sheer implausibility made it credible.
Cheng Shiyin asked again, “Does anyone else know about this? Do your parents?”
Lin Xin shook his head. “My dad passed away several years ago, and my mom has heart problems. I’m too afraid to tell her. That’s why I didn’t go home during the break—I was scared she’d notice something.”
“But Shang Xiaoxia found out on the second day after it happened. Aside from her, no one else knows,” Lin Xin added.
“What’s your plan now?” Cheng Shiyin asked.
“I… I don’t know,” Lin Xin admitted. “I’ve wanted to tell you for so long, but I just didn’t know how. I never meant to deceive you. I’m sorry.” Lin Xin bowed his head deeply, almost brushing the floor.
Cheng Shiyin didn’t say anything and didn’t tell Lin Xin to lift his head. She simply stared at his bowed head, feeling an odd urge to smack him on the skull.
Why? Even Cheng Shiyin wasn’t sure.
Lin Xin had lied to her—or maybe he hadn’t. She had always assumed Lin Xin was a girl, but he had never explicitly confirmed it.
Cheng Shiyin was a girl, and Lin Xin was a girl. That hadn’t stopped them from choosing to be together.
Now, Cheng Shiyin was a girl, and Lin Xin was a boy. Without the constraints of societal judgment, what reason could they possibly have not to be together?
Cheng Shiyin didn’t feel betrayed at all; from the very beginning, Lin Xin’s gender had been irrelevant to her. Even when she’d first rejected his confession, it wasn’t because of their matching genders but because of a mismatched first impression. How could that even count as deception?
Cheng Shiyin understood, however, that Lin Xin didn’t think the same way. He had agonized over whether to tell her, walking a tightrope between honesty and secrecy every day. He had spent countless hours carefully preparing for the truth to emerge, steeling himself for the possibility of her rejection. And yet, after all his efforts, his carefully guarded secret had been revealed in the most humiliating way possible.
As Cheng Shiyin looked at Lin Xin now, a sharp twinge of irritation coursed through her.
She despised misunderstandings and detested unnecessary back-and-forth drama. Breakups, reconciliations, and more breakups—what was the point when the outcome never changed? Once they’d decided to be together, every obstacle became nothing more than a pebble on the road. Just kick it aside and move on.
Lin Xin’s fragile personality definitely needed some work. With everything they’d face—his mother, her mother, the school, and all the bureaucratic hurdles with identity records—this wasn’t the time for him to be so timid.
Her irritation deepened.
Suddenly, Cheng Shiyin stood up, grabbed Lin Xin’s ponytail, and forced him to look up. “Whether you’re male or female has nothing to do with me,” she said bluntly. “Or rather, I just don’t care.”
Lin Xin froze at her words. The impatient tone in her voice sent a chill through his heart. He felt dazed, his gaze unfocused, as though his entire world had just crumbled.
But Cheng Shiyin didn’t pause. She continued, “Do you like me?”
Lin Xin, startled by the directness of the question, instinctively nodded. “I like you.”
“Perfect. I like you too.” With that, Cheng Shiyin yanked Lin Xin toward her and kissed him.
Forget the questions. Forget the problems. None of it mattered anymore.
