Suddenly Became a Boy – What Should I Do? - Chapter 56.1
“Help… with what?”
Cheng Shiyin blurted the question without thinking. Inside her mind, a miniature version of herself was frantically pounding her head and shouting, “Why are you stuttering? Can’t you just shut up for once?”
Her inner critic continued, “Should you even ask that? Are you sure you want to hear the answer? What on earth do you think you can do to help him in this situation?” The tiny version of her even mimed wildly, pointing downward in exasperation.
By this point, Cheng Shiyin’s composure was completely shattered. Her tears hovered on the brink of her lower eyelids, ready to spill over at any moment. Just a moment ago, she’d felt like the hero of her own story—a warrior ready to fight through thorny obstacles and rescue her brave princess. But now? She was clumsily cradling Lin Xin, caught in a bizarre, wildly inappropriate parody of a romance novel. Worse, she’d willingly recited a ridiculous line and trapped herself in an unbearably awkward situation.
Lin Xin, meanwhile, wasn’t in any condition to notice Cheng Shiyin’s internal struggle. He was too preoccupied with the sheer effort of keeping his wits about him; the task itself felt Herculean. Ironically, he was somewhat grateful for the drug’s paralytic effects—they kept him from doing anything reckless that he’d regret forever. After all, Cheng Shiyin had dressed up beautifully for their date today. She deserved to keep that beauty untarnished.
All Lin Xin wanted was to sit up and grab something to cover himself so he could maintain a shred of dignity. In his mind, he thought, “This entire situation is unbearably pathetic.”
But Cheng Shiyin didn’t see it that way. To her, Lin Xin wasn’t pitiful at all. If anything, he exuded an irresistible charm—a raw magnetism that made it impossible to look away. His flushed face wasn’t the pink of embarrassment or the peach of romantic tension—it was a deep, burning red, the color of undeniable intensity. His forehead shimmered with beads of sweat, and his teary eyes carried an intoxicating haze. Though his gaze was unfocused, it radiated an unspeakable danger—a danger Cheng Shiyin found herself inexplicably drawn to.
Lin Xin opened his mouth, preparing to respond to her earlier question. But before he could speak, Cheng Shiyin’s hand shot out, covering his lips. “I understand everything,” she said softly. “You don’t need to say it.”
Lin Xin, touched by what he interpreted as their shared tacit understanding, gave her an encouraging look, full of expectation.
Seeing the change in his expression, Cheng Shiyin’s face turned even redder. She quickly turned away, unwilling to meet his eyes, while her trembling hand reached toward the “open door” of his disheveled clothing…
“Wait. What?!” Lin Xin suddenly realized, “We aren’t on the same wavelength at all. In fact, we’re not even in the same galaxy!” His panic was palpable. He tried to stop her, but his mouth was still covered, and his increasingly frantic gaze wasn’t getting through. He could only widen his eyes in horror as Cheng Shiyin’s hand inched closer.
And yet… a tiny part of him wondered, “What would it feel like?”
“That hand must be so soft,” he thought. But then, “Wait, haven’t I held it before?”
Just as this absurd thought crossed Lin Xin’s mind, veins popped on his forehead—and its forehead too. The tension was so intense it bordered on terrifying.
“Bang!” The door to the private room was suddenly kicked open.
Cheng Shiyin froze as if caught red-handed, her hand snapping back like a guilty child’s. At the door stood Wu Lian, holding an accomplice in tow.
Wu Lian scanned the scene with a sharp gaze and immediately zeroed in on Lin Xin. His pent-up anger erupted as he stripped off his coat and threw it over Lin Xin’s most vulnerable spot. The heavy winter coat landed with a thud, making Lin Xin yelp in pain. “Ow!” But aside from crying out, Lin Xin had no other recourse—he was still too immobilized to move.
Cheng Shiyin glared at Wu Lian for hurting Lin Xin. However, upon noticing the coat now covering Lin Xin’s exposed form, she let out a small sigh of relief. At the same time, a tiny pang of disappointment flickered in her heart.
“Disappointed by what, exactly?” she thought. She wouldn’t say.
But Wu Lian’s fury hadn’t subsided. Helping Lin Xin had brought him to the boiling point. After learning that Lin Xin, a male, had been living with Shang Xiaoxia for an entire year, his anger skyrocketed.
“Does Shang Xiaoxia even know about this?” he thought bitterly.
Fueled by righteous indignation, Wu Lian turned his ire on the helpless Lin Xin. With a sly smirk, he echoed Lin Xin’s earlier words in a teasing tone, “Do you need help?”
“Huh?” This time, it was Cheng Shiyin’s turn to be confused.
