The slap landed so hard, Zhang Lei was stunned on the spot.

His mind went blank.

W-What?

Jiang Ning… was Miss Jiang?

How was that possible?!

If Jiang Ning was truly Miss Jiang, then what was going to happen to him?

His brain buzzed, his back drenched in cold sweat. His entire body trembled uncontrollably, nearly collapsing from shock.

Even Grandpa Jiang, Li Qiang, and Ma Gui froze beside him, unable to process what they had just witnessed.

A moment ago, Zhang Lei had been strutting around with arrogance. Now—he had been slapped in the face.

And Jiang Ning…

She turned out to be the “Miss Jiang” in Director Dai Shanlin’s mouth!

Dai Shanlin, the general manager of Shuangyou Property.

Also Zhang Lei’s relative.

Usually, he acted as though no one was worth his time.

But today, before Jiang Ning, his posture was that of deep reverence.

Could it be… this child Jiang Ning knew someone far more powerful than Dai Shanlin?

At that moment, Dai Shanlin quickly stepped forward, his voice low, his attitude humble.

“Miss Jiang, forgive me. I failed to discipline my staff properly and allowed them to offend you.”

Then, he turned and glared at Zhang Lei, barking, “What are you standing there for? Get over here and apologize to Miss Jiang!”

Zhang Lei’s legs felt like lead, his face ashen, his insides twisted with regret.

Never, not in his wildest nightmares, had he imagined Jiang Fuhai and Jiang Ning would one day trample him beneath their feet.

Barely aware of how he moved, Zhang Lei stumbled in front of Jiang Ning, his lips quivering as he forced out the words:

“M-Miss Jiang… I-I’m sorry.”

Jiang Ning didn’t even spare him a glance. Instead, she looked directly at Dai Shanlin.

“Your management skills leave much to be desired. When your subordinates are this rotten, yet you keep them on, what does that say about you?”

One sentence.

And she cut down two people at once.

Dai Shanlin’s forehead broke into a cold sweat.

So this was what it meant when they said a new ruler burns three fires upon taking office.

And Zhang Lei—was already the first firewood.

Hearing Jiang Ning’s words, Zhang Lei’s knees buckled, and with a thud, he fell to the ground before Grandpa Jiang.

“Old Jiang—no, Mr. Jiang!” His voice shook as he kowtowed. “I apologize for what I did the other day. It was all my fault, my mistake! Please—please be magnanimous and forgive me just this once!”

His regret was so deep it turned his guts green. He slapped himself again and again.

Smack, smack, smack!

The sound echoed harshly. He wasn’t holding back.

This job had been his lifeline—secured through Dai Shanlin’s connections. He’d been living easy, pulling in over eight thousand a month, doing little more than strolling around the neighborhood.

But now, nearly forty, with job prospects slim… he couldn’t afford to lose it.

Seeing Grandpa Jiang remain silent, Zhang Lei turned desperately to Ma Gui and Li Qiang.

“Old Ma, Old Li! I was wrong. You two are bigger men than me—help me plead with Mr. Jiang, I beg you!”

Ma Gui snorted coldly. “Now you know regret. Too late! Where was that regret back then?”

Li Qiang nodded sharply. “Exactly. When you insulted Old Jiang and made him wipe dog feces, did you think of this day? If Ning Ning were just an ordinary girl, would you be kneeling here? No, you’re not apologizing because you know you’re wrong. You’re apologizing because you’re scared. Scared of losing your cushy job!”

His words pierced like a blade.

For a moment, Grandpa Jiang’s heart softened at the sight of Zhang Lei weeping on his knees. But Li Qiang’s words snapped him back. He remembered Zhang Lei’s arrogance just days ago—and all pity vanished.

Dai Shanlin’s voice came down cold and final:

“Zhang Lei, you have seriously violated company rules. As of today, you are dismissed. You need not report to work again.”

The world collapsed around Zhang Lei. He clung desperately to Grandpa Jiang’s leg, sobbing.

“Mr. Jiang, I know I was wrong! I’ll do anything, just forgive me this once, please! I swear I’ll never dare again!”

“Let go! Let go of Old Jiang! Do you have no shame?” Li Qiang and Ma Gui yanked him away, one on each side.

Dai Shanlin bent respectfully, his voice soft. “Miss Jiang, please—this way inside.”

Jiang Ning turned to her grandfather. “Let’s go, Grandpa.”

Then she glanced at the two old men. “Grandpa Ma, Grandpa Li, come with us.”

“Coming, Ning Ning,” they answered at once, shaking off Zhang Lei and hurrying to follow.

…

Inside the office, Jiang Ning gave Dai Shanlin a few instructions before adding, “Find lighter jobs for Grandpa Ma and Grandpa Li.”

Dai smiled. “As it happens, the cleaning and landscaping departments both need supervisors. The work is simple—mostly checking sanitation and attendance. Salary is 5,500 a month. Would that suit the two of you?”

Ma Gui and Li Qiang exchanged shocked looks, then nodded quickly.

“Of course, of course! More than suitable!”

They had never imagined they’d get positions like this. Normally, Zhang Lei had hoarded all such posts.

Now they understood having someone powerful above you truly changed everything.

Jiang Ning was too outstanding—too capable.

Dai nodded. “Very well. Prepare your things and come at one in the afternoon to complete the onboarding.”

“Yes, yes!” Both old men beamed, turning gratefully to Jiang Ning. “Ning Ning, thank you!”

She smiled gently. “It’s I who should thank you—for standing by my grandfather when he was wronged.”

In a society full of scheming and selfishness, such pure, genuine loyalty was priceless. She truly felt grateful for her grandfather’s sake.

“Don’t say that, Ning Ning,” Li Qiang chuckled. “Your grandfather’s our dearest old brother.”

“That’s right,” Ma Gui agreed. “We’ve been brothers for decades. Of course we’d speak up for him. And besides—he’s always treated us well.”

After settling things, the two men left to prepare, hearts light with newfound hope.

Grandpa Jiang, watching his old friends given stable jobs, suddenly grew anxious.

“Ning Ning… why don’t you ask Director Dai to arrange some work for me too? I hate being idle at home.”

Jiang Ning chuckled. “From today on, you’re the boss of Shuangyou Property. Since when does the boss do chores?”

She had acquired the company partly to keep her grandfather occupied. After all, the elderly could never stay idle for long.

“B-Boss?” Grandpa Jiang’s eyes widened.

“Yes,” Jiang Ning nodded. “I’ve already purchased Shuangyou Property.”

He nearly leapt out of his chair.

“Purchased?! Ning Ning—you’re not joking?”

He had assumed Dai Shanlin was helping because of personal ties. Never did he expect his granddaughter had outright bought the entire company.

“It’s true, sir,” Dai Shanlin confirmed with respect. “Miss Jiang now owns us. From now on, we await your guidance.”

Grandpa Jiang’s mind spun. He stammered, “But… but I’m not qualified to be anyone’s boss…”

“You are,” Jiang Ning said firmly. “With Director Dai here, you don’t need to worry about management. Just oversee things casually, enjoy your flowers, practice your tai chi. Leave the rest to him.”

Dai Shanlin looked at Grandpa Jiang with open envy.

If only he had a granddaughter like Jiang Ning—he could die without regrets.

…

On the way home, Grandpa Jiang finally asked the question burning in his heart.

“Ning Ning… how did you do this? Where did you get the money to buy a property company?”

She smiled softly. “Grandpa, I told you—I came back to give you a good life. Over the past year, I’ve learned more than you can imagine. I can earn money, real money. Today is just the beginning. From now on, our days will only get better.”

Only then did Grandpa Jiang truly believe her earlier words.

She hadn’t been boasting.

…

Meanwhile, at the Cheng household.

Cheng Zijun worked until three in the morning. He slept in, not walking until half past ten.

The moment he opened his eyes; he grabbed his phone.

Surely, overnight, Jiang Ning had sent him pages of heartfelt confessions.

His lips curved in anticipation as he saw over a dozen unread WeChat messages.

He knew it. Jiang Ning could never resist him.

Unlocking the screen, he opened his messages—only to freeze.

None of them were from Jiang Ning.

She hadn’t sent him a single word.

In fact, she hadn’t even approved of his friend request.

The eighteen unread messages… were all from Zhang Shuyi.

[Zijun-ge, are you awake yet? I made you soup.]

[Picture.jpg]

[I cooked it myself.]

[Do you prefer sweet or savory?]

[Zijun-ge, why aren’t you replying?]

[Zijun-ge?]

[Where did you go?]

[Can you answer me, just once?]

[…]

Before, he would have replied instantly.

Now, all he felt was irritation. His mind spun with only one thought:

Why hadn’t Jiang Ning accepted his request?

This wasn’t like her.

She loved him too much to ignore him.

Gripping his hair, he finally convinced himself—maybe the request hadn’t gone through.

Yes. That had to be it.

He quickly entered her number again and resented the friend request.

Ding! Sent successfully.

Relief washed over him. This time, there would be no mistake.

Soon, he’d be flooded with her love notes again.

…

At Shen Residence.

Shen Jingnian was in the gym, training.

His shirtless upper body glistened with sweat, muscles chiseled—broad chest, perfect eight-pack, every movement exuding strength and masculinity. A white towel hung around his neck as beads of sweat traced down his torso, disappearing into forbidden territory.

The door burst open, and Yun Haotian stepped in, eyes going wide at his uncle’s physique.

He glanced at his own belly and sighed miserably.

Everyone said nephews took after their uncles.

So why didn’t he have abs?

So unfair!

“Xiao Jiu.”

“Speak.” Shen Jingnian lifted a ten-kilogram dumbbell with one hand, his tone flat.

“Uncle, tomorrow Dr. Jiang will come to give you a follow-up checkup.”

“Mn.” His voice was indifferent. “I know.”

Grinning mischievously, Yun Haotian lowered his voice. “I also prepared a surprise for you.”

“What?”

With exaggerated secrecy, Yun Haotian pulled out a book from behind his back. “Look, Uncle!”

Shen Jingnian accepted it, raising an eyebrow as he read the title.

“How a Steel-Straight Man Can Win a Woman’s Heart.”
