Manager Zhang’s words were firm and absolute.

After all, hadn’t Old Man Jiang once begged him to pull some strings so his granddaughter could get into First High?

If Jiang Ning really had the ability, why would she need to rely on him?

And besides—

The school leaders from First High were here looking for a Jiang Ning who lived in Building 5.

If his memory served, Old Man Jiang lived in Building 2!

The nerve of this old fellow, trying to claim glory that clearly wasn’t his.

Did he really think his granddaughter was that capable?

At first, when he heard the name “Jiang Ning” from his colleague, Grandpa Jiang’s heart had leapt with excitement. But Zhang Tao’s icy words drenched him like a bucket of cold water.

He looked at Zhang Tao and said, voice trembling but resolute:
“Manager Zhang, I won’t deny there may be others with the same name. But my granddaughter’s grades are excellent, why wouldn’t she get into First High? Do you really mean what you said just now? If my granddaughter does make it into First High, then you’d better eat your words!”

Zhang Tao sneered. “Exactly. But only if your granddaughter actually makes it in.”

“Fine. I’ll remember you said that.”

Zhang Tao had no interest in wasting more breath on the old man. He quickly strode to catch up with the two school leaders.
“Principal Li, Director Zhou, please come this way.”

Once they left, colleagues gathered around Grandpa Jiang, patting his shoulder in comfort.

“Old Jiang don’t take it to heart. Manager Zhang’s always been like this that mouth of his is rotten.”

The old man only chuckled. “No matter. The truth will speak for itself. I believe in my Ning Ning—she will get into First High.”

His colleagues exchanged looks, their expressions complicated.

They all thought Old Jiang was being too naive.

Zhang Tao’s words might have been cruel, but there was truth in them. Jiang Ning had been out of school for a year. To leap into First High now? That was no different from reaching for the heavens.

Meanwhile—

Zhang Tao had already brought the two school leaders to the Jiang family’s door. He smiled obsequiously.
“Principal Li, Director Zhou, allow me to knock.”

He rapped on the door. Moments later, it opened.

Standing inside was a delicate young girl. Jiang Ning’s clear eyes regarded the three strangers.
“May I ask who you’re looking for?”

Principal Li stepped forward with a kind smile.
“Hello, young lady. We’re here looking for Jiang Ning. Does Jiang Ning live here?”

“I’m Jiang Ning. Do you need something from me?”

She’s Jiang Ning?!

The three men froze, shock flashing across their faces.

No one had imagined that the top scorer would be so breathtakingly beautiful.

Principal Li hastily pulled out her exam file and compared it. There it was—her name, her photo.

Yes, this really was Jiang Ning.

Both Principal Li and Director Zhou were stunned.

In their minds, academic prodigies always looked plain—thick glasses, bookish, with little thought for appearances. If someone’s looks were too outstanding, surely their studies would suffer.

But Jiang Ning shattered every assumption.

She was brilliant and beautiful.

Principal Li’s smile grew wide.
“Student Jiang Ning, hello. I am Li Bin, principal of First High. Congratulations—you’ve passed our transfer student examination with the highest score. This is our Director Zhou. We’re here today to personally invite you to school to complete your enrollment.”

The words “first place” stirred no visible ripple in Jiang Ning’s calm expression.

It was exactly as she had expected.

“Hello, Principal Li, Director Zhou. You mean we should go handle the paperwork now?”

“That’s right. Are you available now?” Principal Li asked warmly. “If not, we can wait, or even send someone to deliver the documents here for you to sign.”

A student like this—their first place—they couldn’t afford to let any other school snatch her away.

“I’m available but let me tell my grandfather first.”

She dialed her phone as they all headed downstairs. But before the call connected, they stepped outside and spotted Old Man Jiang hurrying toward them with his colleagues.

“Grandpa!” Jiang Ning called, quickening her pace.

Grandpa?

In that instant, Zhang Tao froze.

She was calling who Grandpa?

Jiang Fuhai?

The same man he had just mocked mercilessly. The same man to whom he had sworn he’d eat shit if his granddaughter got in?

Zhang Tao’s face flushed red, then pale. He wanted to sink into the ground.

So, so humiliating!

Principal Li and Director Zhou, too, were stunned.

A cleaning worker grandfather… had raised such an extraordinary granddaughter?

Seven hundred and ten points.

If this had been the national college exam, that score would have been enough to top the city rankings.

Meanwhile, Grandpa Jiang himself hadn’t yet pieced it together. “Ning Ning, where are you off to?”

Before Jiang Ning could reply, Principal Li eagerly stepped in, gripping the old man’s hand.
“Mr. Jiang, my apologies, we didn’t recognize you just now! I’m Li Bin, principal of First High. We’ve come to deliver wonderful news—your granddaughter has been admitted!”

Director Zhou seized his other hand.
“Indeed, sir. Your granddaughter’s future is limitless. You’ve truly raised an exceptional child.”

Old Jiang’s eyes lit with joy, his hands trembling. “So… my Ning Ning really got into First High?”

“Not only did she get in,” Principal Li said proudly, “she took first place.”

First place.

The words echoed in the old man’s ears, leaving him dazed. Then his eyes filled with tears of joy. He turned to his colleagues, voice breaking.
“Did you hear that? My Ning Ning—she’s first! I wasn’t dreaming after all!”

At that moment, Grandpa Jiang stood taller than ever, pride radiating from his very being.

His colleagues could only gaze at him enviously.

After all, in this world, there was no greater glory than academic achievement.

And Old Jiang’s granddaughter had just won them the highest honor of all.

“Congratulations, Old Jiang!”

“Are you treating us tonight?”

“Of course he is! Come on, we’re going to Fuding Hotel. Tonight, we drink until we drop!”

Laughing through tears, Old Jiang nodded. “Yes, yes! Ning Ning, you go on with the principal and director to school. Grandpa will be waiting at home.”

“Okay, Grandpa. I’ll be back soon.”

As Jiang Ning departed with the school leaders, Old Jiang turned to Zhang Tao with a sly smile.
“Manager Zhang, didn’t you say my Ning Ning couldn’t possibly get into First High? Looks like she’s a bit more capable than your son, wouldn’t you say?”

Zhang Tao could only force a smile. “Well… your granddaughter is… pretty good.”

“And that business about eating shit just now? Ha! Never mind. Tonight, why don’t you join us at Fuding Hotel for a drink?”

The words cut sharper than any blade.

Zhang Tao’s face darkened, his smile stiff. “I… I’m busy tonight.”

Busy? More like utterly humiliated.

Damn that old man—what was there to be so smug about?

Who knew if Jiang Ning had really earned that score fairly?

And even if she hadn’t cheated, so what? Girls’ brains could never compete with boys’. By the time she reached her senior year, she’d be overtaken by her male classmates for sure.

And with a face like that? She’d fall in love, maybe even end up pregnant before graduation.

A fallen girl, a ruined reputation.

Let’s see how long that old man can keep gloating then!
