It was just a subtle twitch of her fingers.

Shi Nanyue continued pushing the supplements down Shi Nanxing’s gastric tube, not even noticing the slight movement.

Knock, knock, knock—

A knock came at the door.

“Come in.”

Shi Nanyue replied in a calm, unhurried tone.

A young doctor in a white coat stepped in—handsome, refined, probably around twenty-eight or twenty-nine.

He was the doctor specifically assigned to Shi Nanxing’s recovery: Zhang Wenyun.

“Miss Nanyue.”

Shi Nanyue had just finished pushing all the supplements through the tube. Hearing Zhang Wenyun’s voice, she stood. “Doctor Zhang, you’re here.”

Zhang Wenyun nodded politely and approached the bed, opening his medical kit to examine Shi Nanxing.

Shi Nanyue stood by, her voice soft with concern. “Doctor Zhang, how is my brother’s condition now?”

His voice was soothing, gentle, eyes kind as he met hers. “Miss Nanyue, please rest assured. I will do my utmost to ensure your brother recovers quickly. I won’t let you down.”

Shi Nanyue smiled and nodded. “Thank you, Doctor Zhang. I’ll leave it in your hands.”

Two days later.

Jiang Ning successfully obtained her Hong Kong–Macau permit and boarded the flight to Xiangjiang with Yue Qianlan.

Yue Qianlan was ecstatic. “Ning Ning, this is my first time traveling with a good friend!”

She was used to going with her parents and older brother.

“Me too,” Jiang Ning said quietly. She had never had a close friend before, preferring solitude.

After more than three hours of flight, the plane landed at Xiangjiang Airport.

As soon as they disembarked, they spotted the airport’s iconic photo spot.

Yue Qianlan immediately handed her phone to Jiang Ning. “Ning Ning, take a picture for me! I want to post it in our family group.”

“Sure.”

Jiang Ning took the phone and snapped a photo of Yue Qianlan.

Then she handed her own phone to Yue Qianlan. “March, take one for me too. I’ll send it to my grandfather to let him know I arrived safely.”

Jiang Ning had never needed to check in with anyone before. But Yue Qianlan’s words reminded her. That morning, her grandfather had asked her to send a message once she got to the airport.

“Okay.”

Jiang Ning positioned herself in front of the landmark, flashing her signature V-sign.

Meanwhile, He Suosuo’s childhood friend, Feng Xiaojing, had just landed. Seeing Jiang Ning taking photos, she froze for a moment before letting out a cold snort. “What a peasant girl! So embarrassing!”

In Feng Xiaojing’s eyes, only someone utterly unworldly would behave like Jiang Ning—taking endless photos as if the whole world must know she’d arrived in Xiangjiang.

Feng Xiaojing leaned closer to He Suosuo. “Suosuo, do you know her?”

Feng Xiaojing, like He Suosuo used to be, came from a modest family of five, living cramped in a run-down apartment.

He Suosuo had agreed to come along purely for the sense of superiority! Their families had been equal once, but now hers was far better off, and she enjoyed being fawned over by Feng Xiaojing.

This feeling was far better than the fake admiration she had gotten from Lin Wanyi and Xu Lin. Now, she could boss Feng Xiaojing around like a servant.

“I know her,” He Suosuo said. “She’s that abandoned baby Jiang Fuhai picked up.”

Since Grandpa Jiang had severed ties with Jiang Dongsheng, she didn’t need to call him grandfather anymore.

Feng Xiaojing, curious, asked, “Hasn’t she divorced the Cheng family already?”

“Yes,” He Suosuo smirked. “So now she’s just a discarded secondhand.”

Feng Xiaojing’s eyes were full of disdain. “Divorced and still acting like she’s someone special in broad daylight, taking photos? If it were me, I’d just jump into a river.”

“Excuse me! Coming through!”

A voice rang out suddenly.

He Suosuo and Feng Xiaojing looked up to see a group of bodyguards clearing a path for a powerful middle-aged man.

Next to him was a woman in a cheongsam with a coat draped elegantly over her shoulders, clearly well-maintained and strikingly beautiful, her age impossible to guess.

The scene was grand, drawing everyone’s attention at the airport.

Feng Xiaojing gasped. “Oh my god! Are they celebrities? So impressive!”

He Suosuo’s eyes narrowed in disdain. “Xiaojing, how clueless can you be? They’re not celebrities!”

“Then who are they?” Feng Xiaojing asked, bewildered. “Who else could make such a scene at an airport?”

He Suosuo rolled her eyes. Typical of someone from the bottom tier—her world’s idea of the rich went no further than celebrities.

“They’re far more prestigious than any celebrity,” she explained. “They’re Second Master Si Huawu of the Si family in Xiangjiang and Second Madam Sun Jiaqi. Second Master Si runs a renowned entertainment company—top actors and actresses are all under him. His status far exceeds any celebrity.”

She continued proudly, “Ten years ago, his net worth already surpassed twelve digits. Sun Jiaqi is the number-one heiress in Zhucheng. Together, they’re a powerhouse! In Xiangjiang, only the Si family’s second branch could compete with them.”

Feng Xiaojing’s jaw dropped. “Wow, Suosuo! How do you know all this?”

He Suosuo beamed. “My cousin is Second Madam’s personal assistant! Look, the one standing next to her holding her bag—that’s my cousin!”

The Si family. Xiangjiang’s undisputed first aristocracy. Ordinary people could never become the personal assistant to Second Madam Sun Jiaqi.

He Suosuo had long taken pride in her cousin. Her trip to Xiangjiang was partly to see her, and to mingle with the upper-class elite.

Catching her cousin’s wave and smile, He Suosuo bristled with pride. “See that? My cousin greeted me! After graduating college, she’s worked as Second Madam’s assistant, rubbing shoulders with people we ordinary folks only see on TV!”

She then looked at Jiang Ning with a smirk of superiority.

Having a cousin in the inner circle of the Si family, Jiang Ning couldn’t compete. Seeing He Suosuo wave to Zhang He (her cousin) would undoubtedly make Jiang Ning green with envy.

For a moment, He Suosuo felt a swell of superiority.

But when she glanced back, she noticed Jiang Ning’s eyes locked on Si Huawu in the crowd.

Yes—Jiang Ning was staring at him.

For some reason, despite seeing him for the first time, she felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity—a strange warmth that made it hard to look away. Her heart swirled with complex emotions that words could not describe.

Seeing Jiang Ning staring, He Suosuo snorted disdainfully.

She knew what Jiang Ning was thinking: scheming to hook up with the Si family!

Shameless! Truly shameless!

Does Jiang Ning think that looking pretty will instantly make her a phoenix, attracting the Si family’s attention?

A peasant girl like her? In this lifetime, or the next, she’d never have a chance with the Si family.

He Suosuo squinted. The only one who could get close to the Si family was her—after all, her cousin was Second Madam’s personal assistant.
