Chapter 9: Rosetta’s Expedition for Essentials 3

She arrived at the blacksmith.

This time, it’s not a place dealing with nobles, but a blacksmith wholesaling equipment for adventurers. Naturally, it’s a shop in the commoner district. Therefore, there’s a high possibility that the owner is a rough and rude type with a coarse demeanor.

When dealing with nobles, they just make flashy and extravagant things. I was shown my father’s sword, but it was all just fancy with no practicality.

I heard that the swords used by the Kingdom’s army are ordered from the same place that makes weapons for adventurers, so I chose this blacksmith.

Well, the most important thing is still whether it’s usable in battle, right? A sword isn’t just for show.

“Boss!!”

When I approached the blacksmith’s ordering counter, the clerk panicked and retreated to the back, saying a noble had arrived.

Hey, that’s a customer, you know? It’s not right for a clerk to look at the customer’s face and then retreat. It’s against the rules. It’s bullying. You’ll make me cry, you know?

With a slightly teary-eyed expression, an older man with a shiny bald head comes out from the back.

He’s a muscular old man who gives off the vibe of a typical blacksmith. He’s probably tone-deaf. Do you need ingots?

“Hey, miss. I don’t know what you’re here for, but this is a blacksmith. We make weapons and armor here. If you’re looking for accessories, try a jewelry store.”

“Don’t worry. I’ve come to make a request to the blacksmith. Please forge a weapon for me.”

“Huh? You want a weapon, miss?”

The old man was genuinely surprised. Speaking like that to a noble could be seen as disrespectful, you know? You might get hit before you even swing your hammer. Are you sure?

Don’t worry, I wouldn’t do something like that. I’m not a villainess. Good job, me.

Anyway, since continuing the conversation like this might lead to an argument, I take out the parchment I prepared yesterday and spread it out on the counter for taking requests.

“Huh? What’s this…”

“I would like to place a custom order. I’ve also written down the instructions for it. I’ll come back to check on the progress in… seven days. I’ll pay then.”

He probably hasn’t made something like this before. Leaving the trembling old man with the parchment, I turn on my heel.

Now then, I wonder if the blacksmith here will be able to make it well? I’ve written down the instructions as detailed as possible, so it should be possible unless there’s something drastically wrong. I hope they can make it properly. If not, I’ll just have to use a regular sword.

With that done, I’ll leave the commoner district.

Next is the tailor in the noble district for a custom-made outfit.

If it’s for exercise, it’ll be gym clothes. Should I go for bloomers? Should I even include a race number? Should I write “Rosetta” in simple hiragana? Might be a bit too forced? Maybe I’ll skip the race number.

I managed to get exercise clothes, but adventurer gear is just too tacky.

So, I’ve decided to have it custom-made at a high-end tailor for nobles.

I did write something down yesterday, but it’s only one sheet, so I wonder if they can do it. It might be impossible. I didn’t even write down the materials.

“Welcome, young lady.”

As I enter the shop, all the staff stop their work and bow.

It’s a far cry from the commoner’s shop earlier.

Luckily, it seems there are no other nobles around, so I casually look at the fabrics.

In noble clothing stores, they don’t usually make clothes in advance. It’s mostly custom-made.

So, apart from a few samples, you choose the fabric and give detailed instructions on where to use which fabric, and then the artisans start making it.

It’s quite a hassle and takes time, but that’s generally how it goes when dealing with nobles.

What nobles seek in clothing isn’t functionality. It’s appearance. Even if it’s hard to move in, as long as it looks good, that’s all that matters. Innovation is the essence of fashion.

I hand over the parchment and give some instructions.

Without making a blue face or a dubious expression, the clerk kindly assisted me.

Truly a seasoned veteran who has dealt with nobles. They’ll probably gossip about that noble later in the staff room, saying all sorts of things.

I asked if they could try, even though they’re not sure if they can do it, and they agreed, so I decided to entrust them with it.

Basically, the clerks here won’t reject orders they can’t fulfill.

Nobles often come with impossible requests and if you can’t fulfill them, they might try to kill you. Plus, if you go against them, you’ll be judged by noble law, even if you’re a commoner.

It’s truly an unfair society. Hail to the nobles. It’s good to be a noble. Can’t imagine being a commoner or a slave. …Wait, do slaves even exist here?

Oh well. They said it would take a few days to estimate the order, so just like at the blacksmith’s, I tell them I’ll come back in seven days to check on the progress and then leave the tailor’s.

Clothes do seem better at noble shops than at commoner ones after all.

Next up… is the magic shop.

According to Lionetta’s information, there are quite a few types of shops in this city, even in just the noble district. There are some in the commoner district too, but they’re mostly inferior versions of the ones in the noble district.

For weapons and armor, it seems the quality is higher in the commoner district since there are adventurers there, but for magical items and books, which are more expensive, you can only find them in the noble district.

They exist in the commoner district too, but the quality is significantly lower.

As for daily necessities, they’re in the commoner district. The higher-quality luxury items are in the noble district. Different shops handle different purposes.

Thanks to that, there are several magic item shops in the noble district alone, each offering its own unique magical items.

I’d like to visit all the shops, but it’s practically impossible to cover them all in just one day. So this time, I’ll visit only the three major stores and check out what they have to offer.
