Chapter 21: Rosetta’s First Encounter and Level Up
I somehow managed to withstand the frenzy and succeeded in obtaining the Beginner’s Elf Language Dictionary.
It seems that the Elf language is quite useful for deciphering ancient languages.
After all, there are many similarities due to it being an old language.
Oh, right, since I’m an elf, why not directly learn magic from this person?
Well, since I’ve already made my move once, I can’t just turn back to the shop, so maybe next time.
No, I should ask now. In this second life, I’ll stop putting things off. I should do what I want to do now. As someone said, “When will you do it? Now!”
After returning to the shop, I decided to ask the elf guy if he could teach me magic. Yes, it’s a perfect time for action.
“Hmm, magic, huh? Elf magic is a bit different from what humans use… Alright then, I’ll give you this. Once you’ve mastered it, come back and ask me about magic again.”
With that, he handed me a book.
It seems to be a beginner’s spellbook for elves, perhaps.
Since it looks fun, I should start reading this in the afternoon.
Oh, wait. I can’t read it without learning the elf language. Alright, I’ve decided. I’ll do both at the same time!
After leaving the Elf Magic Tool Shop (temporary name), we headed back home.
Hmm. I definitely need some money I can use freely. I should think about it.
I feel reluctant to use Father’s money every time.
Alright, tonight, I’ll make plans for the future.
“By the flames of the Fire Emperor, the lower spirit Perkagara, I invoke the Fireball that pierces my enemies with a single blow, Shuperaflara! Fireball!”
When I returned home, I swung my sword in the garden, circulated my mana, and activated a simple spell while holding a piece of the magic book I bought with my rubbing hands.
It’s all well and good that I managed to conjure a Fireball, but apparently, it’s not okay to release it in the garden, according to Lionetta.
So, where am I supposed to release it then?! When I asked, she said she didn’t know. Figure it out somehow. Thanks a lot.
Am I supposed to just leave it to others? Is my magic treated as industrial waste? Dealing with industrial waste disposal is really tough, you know?
Well, I have no choice but to abandon it, so off it goes!
With the intention of flying farther away from the town, I throw the Fireball towards the sky with all my might, hoping that it will save someone in need.
Just as Lionetta is about to react with surprise, the Fireball flies high into the sky in a graceful arc.
“W-what are you doing!?”
“Well, you said I can’t drop it in the garden. Teehee?”
“W-what should we do? Do you know where it went?! I hope nothing bad happens…”
“Oh, I leveled up.”
Some white text appeared in the corner of my vision, saying “Level up: 1 → 2”.
And apparently, I defeated a goblin.
Huh, so there are goblins in this world too.
Wait, text in my vision? Is this like a game UI or something?
I couldn’t help but make a sarcastic comment.
Wait, is this like those games where you can see your status and stuff as a given?
Since there seems to be levels, it feels like there are various game elements in reality.
Show me my stats! Hmm, nope, nothing.
It seems like this isn’t a game world where stats are displayed.
This area needs verification too.
Well, since I have time, let’s take it slow and investigate each thing carefully.
For now, since there’s no text like “killed someone here,” the Fireball must have safely landed. Goblins aren’t considered people, so it’s all good.
“No, is there a problem!? Oh no, is this going to be blamed on me!?”
Lionetta starts panicking and running around with her hands on her head.
It’s fine, really. It seems like there’s no damage, and I even feel like I’ve gotten stronger since I leveled up. Though I don’t feel any stronger at all.
After that, Lionetta was in such a panic that I couldn’t even get her to practice. She kept saying it was dangerous and that we needed to be careful. So, today, I decided to stay quietly in my room, stretching while looking at the Elvish language textbook.
As for the Elven grimoire, you really can’t read it without understanding Elvish.
Ugh, it’s been a while since I did anything remotely resembling studying, so I’m having a bit of a reaction.
I hated studying itself, but I was desperate to learn various things because I wanted to be serious. Especially in my third year of high school, it was hell every day.
Thanks to that, I got into Tokyo University, but I ended up drifting apart from my friends from before.
Because they all went to nearby universities.
We all said, “Let’s all get into Tokyo University together!” Why did the all slack off instead of studying?!
I studied so hard every day after school.
I don’t know why, but I ended up at the top and got a scholarship!
Then, as a backlash, I became averse to studying and headed straight down the path of becoming an office lady.
I wonder if I could have gotten a PhD if I had kept studying.
Nowadays, I’m struggling because there’s hardly any place to put that hard-earned knowledge to use.
Memory techniques are about the only thing that comes in handy.
Plus, the knowledge I’ve gained from anime, movies, and games that I started learning afterward is more useful.
And if someone asked me to show off my Tokyo University knowledge now, I’ve pretty much forgotten it all.
I’m hopeless, aren’t I!? I’m heading straight down the road of stupidity.
I really need to study hard.
But I’ve already seen most of the books in the study.
Well, at least I have a wealth of basic knowledge, right? Memory techniques are really coming in handy.
Oh, right. Let’s go to the bookstore. There’s a bookstore, right? Since there are books, why not go to the library instead?
