Honestly speaking,

Lu Yibei’s performance of “I’ll Share My Juice With You” was nowhere near as impressive as Ji Qingqian’s rendition of “Courage.”

On top of that, “Courage” itself was on a whole other level in terms of lyrics and melody. With “Courage” as the benchmark, Lu Yibei’s performance didn’t quite leave the freshmen awestruck.

Still, his voice was clear, youthful, and sincere.

Plus, “Juice” had a cheerful tune. Many students swayed along with the music, and quite a few hummed along.

But Liu Jie wasn’t impressed.

“The song Lu Yibei picked is still a bit weak. Qingqian sang with so much emotion; she clearly prefers Cantonese ballads. He should’ve gone with something like Fuji Mountain or Love and Sincerity to match her…”

Hao Zhangwen agreed:

“If he sang Joey Yung’s Timid, that would’ve been killer—but unfortunately, that’s not an option.”

If Lu Yibei could have matched Timid with Courage, the crowd would have gone wild. Maybe Qingqian would even take notice.

After Lu Yibei went on stage, Liu Jie and the others moved closer to the freshmen.

They overheard a small cluster of students whispering, impressed.

“Wow, Lu Xuezhang really knows his stuff.”

“Damn, I’m jumping the queue here.”

“All this time everyone’s been talking about showing off, but he’s actually impressive? And here I am, acting like a fool?”

Yes, those quietly admiring Lu Yibei were all students from Ji Qingqian’s class.

Unlike other classes, they had witnessed the scene yesterday when the campus beauty Ji Qingqian handed half her juice to Lu Yibei.

—The moon bends~ soft soft soft soft, twining~ I’ll share my juice with you, love shared in halves~

Some were listening to the song.

Others were listening to… an autobiography.

“The dog food in the groove is still chasing me!”

“Thanks… noticing I didn’t eat enough dinner, you made sure to stuff this in.”

Liu Jie overheard but didn’t quite get it.

He had a weird sense of déjà vu, like he’d missed an episode.

Li Si stood nearby, lightly clapping in rhythm.

He glanced sideways to see Xia Li giving him a sly, playful smile.

“What’s up?” Li Si asked with a grin.

Xia Li’s tiny tiger teeth glinted as she licked her lips, squinting:

“I know what you’re thinking.”

“Really?”

“Because I’m thinking the same thing,” Xia Li said. “At this welcome party, we have to drag Brother Yibei along as a laborer…”

“What do you mean, laborer?”

Li Si shook his head helplessly. “It’s so the juniors can see the charm of their senior…”

Xia Li scoffed:

“Smooth talk, one line after another… classic you, Fox President.”

“…“

Before Li Si could reply, she added:

“You shameless old pervert!”

Lu Yibei’s song was nearing its end.

Liu Jie’s gaze was fixed on him when someone tapped his left shoulder twice.

“Stop it.”

Liu Jie brushed the hand off, thinking Zhao Sun was joking.

But a calm, gentle voice spoke:

“Liu Jie.”

He froze and looked left.

His face lit up with joy, but then he remembered his friends were nearby. If he expressed too much excitement… there’d be endless teasing back in the dorm. So he restrained his smile.

Happy, but not fully.

“Chen Dan…”

Hearing this, both Hao Fatty and Zhao Sun turned their heads.

Hao Fatty: “Chen Dan, huh.”

Zhao Sun: “Good evening.”

They weren’t very familiar with her, but since she was the chosen future daughter-in-law, they spoke politely.

Chen Dan greeted them back and asked:

“What are you doing here?”

Hao Fatty replied: “Oh, Sun’s curious about this classmate, so he asked me and Liu Jie to come take a look.”

Zhao Sun nodded repeatedly: “Yes, yes, I’m interested, I’m interested.”

Though they joked and teased normally, in front of a girl they liked, Hao Zhangwen and Zhao Sun still tried to save face for Liu Jie.

Chen Dan glanced at Lu Yibei holding the microphone:

“Liu Jie, take Lu Yibei and go in a bit.”

Liu Jie wanted to ask why she was here but couldn’t understand the reasoning.

“Why?”

“Zhou Zhou is here.”

Hearing this, Zhao Sun laughed. “What, we’re afraid of her?”

“Zhou Zhou… is not alone,” Chen Dan said, her tone loaded.

She also glanced at Xia Li and Li Si nearby.

Though they were from different departments, Chen Dan knew Li Si, the club president.

She didn’t know his relationship with Lu Yibei, so she didn’t elaborate.

Li Si got the hint and stepped back a couple of paces.

But Xia Li, hearing “Lu Yibei,” leaned in:

“What’s wrong? What’s wrong? What happened to Brother Yibei?”

Chen Dan didn’t answer, just subtly glanced in a direction.

Everyone followed her gaze. Zhou Zhou wasn’t particularly tall, but being the top sophomore beauty, her appearance was striking.

Next to her was a man they hadn’t seen before, staring at Lu Yibei on stage.

The relationship was unknown, but their closeness suggested it wasn’t ordinary.

Zhao Sun sneered: “Liu Jie, act it out… that thing…”

Liu Jie: “?”

He didn’t get it.

“Idiot,” Zhao Sun said, tilting his head, mouth slack, almost drooling, dumbly mimicking: “‘I didn’t want to date in school’—”

After the sarcastic act, he laughed: “Damn, so many stick figures.”

Chen Dan remained silent, knowing Zhou Zhou had previously used this as an excuse to reject Lu Yibei.

“She seems triggered by Lu Yibei…” Chen Dan said.

Ever since Lu Yibei removed her from his friend list, Zhou Zhou had been meeting new boys constantly—almost as if to prove that besides Lu Yibei, she had plenty of suitors.

Now that she ran into Lu Yibei again, she’d surely want to provoke him.

Though Lu Yibei seemed emotionally steady in the past two encounters, he had chased Zhou Zhou for over two years unsuccessfully.

Less than a month after giving up, Zhou Zhou already had a boyfriend. The contrast would sting.

Chen Dan thought Zhou Zhou was ruthless.

But there was nothing she could do. Luckily, Liu Jie was here.

Zhao Sun continued to mock:

“The dog doing the chasing isn’t fazed, but the one being chased gets triggered? What a reversal…”

Chen Dan didn’t know how to respond to Zhao Sun, so she quietly advised:

“Anyway, you guys should take Lu Yibei back to the dorm… better he doesn’t know for now.”

After saying this, she quickly left, worried Zhou Zhou might notice.

“What? What?”

Xia Li was still clueless.

She didn’t know Lu Yibei’s history from high school and freshman year.

Zhao Sun looked at her thoughtfully, then briefly explained the “fish-raising” story.
