Chapter 91: What Are You Talking About?!

***

Luo Yahan was completely puzzled.

This genius girl had rarely encountered problems she couldn’t understand since the day she was born.

Xia Mujin’s heartache was one thing, after all, no matter how she tried to reason it out, Luo Yahan really couldn’t think of any good way to rely on her own strength to mend the rifts torn open in people’s hearts by life and death separation. This failure, she had to admit.

But what was going on with Lin Yueye?

She actually managed to bring Xia Mujin out of the car?

From a distance, Xia Mujin and Lin Yueye supported each other as they walked toward Xia Muqing’s tombstone.

Though not particularly close, Luo Yahan could barely make out the faint smile on Xia Mujin’s face. Even though that smile was quite pale, it couldn’t change the reality that this girl who had been in despair for many years was actually able to avoid completely breaking down in tears on this day, at this cemetery of loved ones.

“How did she manage to do that…”

Luo Yahan muttered in astonishment, completely unable to believe that this scene was actually happening.

“Are you talking about Xia Mujin or Sister Yueye?”

“Of course I mean both of them… tch, why are you still here?”

“Hm? Where else would I go? Sister Yueye doesn’t want to go home yet, so I can only wait here with her, right? What a strange question you’re asking.”

Yuebing had a lollipop in her mouth, then somewhat disgustedly took out the candy core: “Not good… too sweet, salty is better, but unfortunately there’s none here.”

Luo Yahan turned back to look speechlessly at the girl who had somehow appeared behind her, and couldn’t help but think of a phrase.

—— Carefree and thoughtless.

She had no idea where all those different snacks from earlier had come from. You come to someone’s house to pay respects at their grave, and you bring a bunch of snacks? Do you think this is an elementary school field trip?

But…

While calling her carefree and thoughtless, Luo Yahan always felt that Lin Lebing had quite a lot going on in that head of hers.

Lin Yueye herself was hard enough to understand… why were the people around her so strange too?

By now, Lin Yueye and Xia Mujin had gradually faded from view, walking to the tombstone over a hundred meters away, seemingly discussing something.

Looking at these scenes… Luo Yahan naturally felt glad that Xia Mujin could take this step.

But deep in her heart, she felt somewhat uncomfortable.

“Lin Lebing… tell me, can she really do it?”

“Of course, Sister Yueye can do anything.”

“Are you still acting, or… do you really think so?”

“Who knows~”

Yuebing kept the lollipop in her mouth, hands behind her back, taking two nimble steps forward as if practicing tap dance. Her starry night-like flowing hair fell over her shoulder with a meaningful tilt of her head, and with a winking smirk, she said something puzzling.

“We learn as long as we live… Although Teacher Luo is our teacher, there’s still so much to learn.”

“Are you mocking me…?”

“Hehe, not at all, I’m just telling you not to look down on Sister Yueye~ We poor people have our own way of living, and if you think she’s just after your measly wealth, then you’re completely wrong.”

“You seem to know something… can you tell me straight? What does she want?”

“How would I know? Sister Yueye is Sister Yueye, and I am me, just like you don’t know what Xia Mujin wants either.”

“……”

If she knew… wouldn’t she have already fulfilled her promise to Xia Muqing and taken good care of her?

If she knew… she wouldn’t have been so derelict in her duties all these years, staying by her side yet accomplishing nothing.

As her cold-colored eyes dimmed, she saw a small hand stretching out toward her.

Looking closely, Lin Lebing had her palm open, seemingly trying to “hint” at something.

“Do you have something else to say… Although it doesn’t quite connect, I feel like you’re not as carefree as you appear on the surface.”

Luo Yahan’s gaze was different from others, as if able to see through appearances to the essence, staring intently at the petite girl before her.

“Are you worried about something, are you helping Lin Yueye plan her future life, or are you trying to improve your own life through this, or…”

“Can you give me 5 yuan?”

“?”

Yuebing thought she was just holding out her hand with no other intention?

Seeing Luo Yahan’s surprised and stunned expression, Yuebing even got a bit anxious.

“Don’t… don’t refuse! We’re out of salt at home, and I saw a supermarket at the cemetery entrance… Hey, Teacher Luo, think about it, I’ve been working super hard lately helping Sister Yueye act, right? You can pay me separately, Sister Yueye is very good to me, but she’s strict with money, so wanting to buy some food is really… well, you can settle accounts with me separately, I don’t need much, 5 yuan is enough!”

Well then.

Now, Luo Yahan couldn’t see through her at all.

As it happened, Luo Yahan was in the habit of carrying some change for unexpected needs, so Yuebing’s outstretched little hand didn’t come up empty.

“Here’s 20 yuan, what can you buy with 5 yuan?”

“Wow, look how generous and wealthy you are, may good people be blessed with peace!”

……………………………….

“Brother, how are you now?”

I’m not well at all.

I’m dead, how could I be well?

Lin Yueye was being held by the arm by Xia Mujin, but the complaints in her heart hadn’t stopped.

Looking at the black and white photo in front… the familiar handsome young man’s appearance, Lin Yueye could only feel like crying but having no tears.

I’m outside, I’m inside.

Heh, what a peculiar experience indeed.

Now the relatives had all left first, going to a nearby restaurant to eat, which gave Xia Mujin the chance to come talk at the tombstone alone.

Lin Yueye’s feelings were both simple and complex, but for Xia Mujin…

It wasn’t nearly so easy at all.

The arm she was holding onto Lin Yueye with was still trembling slightly, and even though she tried to smile at that photo in greeting, the trembling voice with traces of crying that squeezed out of her throat was still hard to control.

This was normal.

If it weren’t like this, Lin Yueye wouldn’t have needed to agree to come with her.

“It’s okay.” Yueye spoke as gently as possible, tilting her head like moonlight glimpsed in a warm night flower garden, “Just say whatever you want to tell him, I think… he can hear it.”

“Really…”

“Mm, I’m very sure.”

This one thing alone, I couldn’t be more certain of.

Xia Mujin nodded, managing a bitter smile while voicing some small complaints to Lin Yueye.

“Is that so… Speaking of which… Yahan is such a ‘traitor’, she actually told Yueye about my brother long ago… I really wanted to tell you myself…”

“That’s only because Teacher Luo thought you didn’t have the courage to say it yourself… She told me these things hoping I could guide you a bit, though I know my own capabilities well enough.”

“Hmm, Yueye really needs to eat more, you’re too thin now, aren’t you?”

“Classmate Mujin, that cold joke of yours isn’t very funny.”

Xia Mujin smiled warmly at these words, she certainly knew Yueye’s “capabilities”, that weight might be much heavier than she herself thought.

Indeed, in Yueye’s eyes, she had no reason to like her.

But in Mujin’s eyes… in her empty world, this different person was initially a faint light, something that just made her curious, made her chase after it, wanting to see if there was any hope she yearned for within.

But recently, this light had grown brighter, even making Xia Mujin feel somewhat “nervous.”

Moreover… Xia Mujin was also grateful that Yahan had told her about her brother.

After all, letting someone she cared about and cherished know about the traces of her brother’s existence, when she shared this weight with her at the same time, the pain on her shoulders suddenly became much lighter, and it had been a long time since Xia Mujin had been able to breathe so deeply.

Then.

Xia Mujin slowly, wearing a smile she tried her best to maintain, turned back to face the tombstone.

She gazed at the departed one in the photo for a long time.

Xia Mujin’s thoughts seemed to have flown very far away before returning to this early autumn, returning to the fallen leaves where she stood.

“Brother, long time no see.”

“Today I brought a friend to see you?”

Xia Mujin shifted slightly to make space, letting Yueye’s figure appear more completely in front of the tombstone.

“Her name is Yueye, Lin Yueye, she’s a friend I made at school.”

“Didn’t you always say that with my personality, even if I made friends I’d just make them cry? Haha… in a sense, I did make Yueye cry, but that doesn’t prevent us from still being friends now, she’s very excellent, so I brought her to meet you…”

“We’re good friends now, but brother, I have a goal I want to tell you about.”

Squinting her eyes, taking a deep breath, Xia Mujin clasped her hands in front of her and tilted her head with a smile.

“Jin’er is working hard to pursue her, working hard to like her, hoping that one day she can become my girlfriend… I’m striving towards this goal.”

“……”

Lin Yueye was shocked.

Hey hey hey…

What are you saying in front of my tombstone?!

Thank you for reading. I’m sorry to say this, but I may have to drop this novel. It’s a good story, but it remains unpopular and has been for a long time. I suppose tearjerker dramas aren’t to everyone’s taste. If you enjoy the story, please help by giving it a good rating and writing a review on Novel Updates.
