    Chapter 75: Acceptance

    ***

Yuebing’s suggestion was something that Lin Yueye found a bit absurd in their originally planned “script.”

Yuebing was quite clever. Upon hearing that they needed to give Xia Mujin some mental stimulation, she thought they might as well go all out and give her a bombshell.

For instance —【Lin Yueye, let’s just pretend to date. After all, you don’t mind that I’m short, and I don’t mind that you can’t eat salt properly.】

【I guarantee this will infuriate her to death.】

Wow, it really did sound like a brilliant plan.

    Brilliant…

    Brilliant my foot!

I’m already having a hard enough time at school, and now you want to add this drama?!

To be fair, society’s attitude towards two girls being together has become much more relaxed than before, but that doesn’t mean everyone can treat it normally when it happens around them, or genuinely wish them happiness.

Especially for someone like Lin Yueye who’s already pitied enough, there are already too many rumors. If she now “scores a loli,” she might end up being verbally crucified and universally condemned.

Taking the direct romantic route wouldn’t work.

    However…

Lin Yueye thought that while they couldn’t be direct, there might be a roundabout way.

In response to Yuebing’s earlier comment, Lin Yueye gave a sweet smile. That sugary smile and her slightly playful response were all caught in Xia Mujin’s nearly dead gaze.

“Yeah, if I could become Lebing’s lover… maybe that would be quite happy? Haha, just kidding. Lebing is skilled, can cook and do laundry, is talented in many ways, and always willing to protect me… whoever gets to date Lebing would definitely be very lucky.”

Can cook, meaning she can dump half a bag of salt into takeout food.

Can do laundry, meaning she even forgets to take off her clothes when bathing and washes them together.

Multi-talented, meaning she can turn traditional comedy into rap, can create entertainment, and her talents are growing day by day.

What’s casual banter for some is a matter of love and hate for others.

Xia Mujin’s mind was buzzing now, you know.

Her eyes were filled with Yueye’s sweet, happy smile, the kind of smile she’d dreamed of making her show.

Now she saw how beautiful that smile was.

But this smile had nothing to do with her at all, it was all blooming towards that sneaky cat… towards Lin Lebing.

    How could this be acceptable…

How could Yueye think about dating someone else… no… she wasn’t serious just now, she was just joking.

But even if it was just a joke… why did it make me feel so uncomfortable and restless…?

    No…

    Don’t do this.

Are you going to leave me too…?

“Classmate Mujin? Your face… doesn’t look too good, should I… should I take you to the infirmary?”

    “Hm?”

Yueye’s voice came closer, awakening Xia Mujin’s consciousness that was gradually sinking into uncontrollable depths.

She stared blankly at the otherworldly beauty so close to her and those petal-like lips, unconsciously licking her tongue, like a traveler who had walked far in the desert under the scorching sun.

But that was just for a moment, just a few blinks, and Xia Mujin was back to being that elegant young lady without any flaws.

“I’m fine? Hmm… I just remembered my parrot again, that parrot died quite tragically.”

    “?”

Yuebing tilted her head, staring directly at Xia Mujin’s smiling face.

Your parrot died, why are you smiling at me? I’m not a parrot.

“Is that so, phew… good that you’re okay.” Lin Yueye sighed in relief, seeing Xia Mujin’s pale face, she was genuinely worried.

—— This worry came from nowhere, like an instinctive reaction emanating from deep within her dormant heart.

And this concern, in Xia Mujin’s eyes, was like a small sun being placed in the dark desert, along with heaven-sent sweet rain for nourishment. With this feeling, even camels could gallop!

“Yueye…” Xia Mujin really couldn’t help it, wanted to reach out and touch her cheek, but due to being in the classroom, and due to her promise with her, she could only smile bitterly and sigh, “You… are really a cunning person… if you don’t want to get close to me… wouldn’t it be better to just be decisive? Why must you make it so I can’t move on… you’re really too much.”

    “?”

If you’re saying I’m leading you on, then yes, I’m quite bad now, and Yuebing is even worse than me.

    But if you’re saying I’m cunning…

Come on, I’m poor and have nothing but one set of clothes and a cat, how could anyone be more sincere than me?

    “Cough cough… cough.”

This wasn’t Lin Yueye acting, but rather her body was naturally weak, and she would occasionally cough like this.

But she didn’t expect that this casual cough would make Xia Mujin turn serious and earnestly instruct Yuebing.

“Classmate Lebing, I won’t say anything else for now, but since you’re living with Yueye, you should properly supervise her taking medicine, you can do that much, right?”

“Ah…? Class monitor, why does it sound like you’re entrusting Sister Yueye to me?”

“I just can’t constantly monitor her health. Besides, I’m not entrusting her to you.”

“No no no…! You misunderstood, class monitor, that’s not what I meant!”

“Is that so… I know I’m thinking too much, and I understand you’re definitely not arguing with me about what I’m thinking.”

“Right, what I mean is Sister Yueye was already mine to begin with, how could it be your place to entrust her to me?”

    “You’re really…!”

“Classmate Mujin! Calm down! She’s still immersed in that variety show and hasn’t come out of it yet!”

Lin Yueye quickly tried to calm Xia Mujin down.

Now Yuebing was performing beyond expectations, she had already gone far beyond the script!

Xia Mujin barely believed it was just dialogue from a variety show.

She would have to check what show it was when she got back, and if she could intervene, she would definitely have the Xia family invest and get that damn script changed!

    Now, time was almost up.

Looking at the clock, twenty minutes of the long break had passed, and there were about three minutes left before class started.

Xia Mujin had just noticed that the female classmate who originally sat in this seat had been circling the front of the classroom several times, deliberately not coming over because if she did come over, she wouldn’t know what to say to make Xia Mujin leave.

This was the pressure of the Xia family’s young lady, like an immovable mountain.

But actually, Xia Mujin really disliked this feeling.

Xia Mujin didn’t intend to put her in a difficult position.

She sighed lightly as she stood up, and smiled as she stood beside Lin Yueye.

Perhaps remembering something, her expression showed a moment of loneliness and sadness, but quickly, as if gathering courage, she repeated these words again.

“Yueye… tomorrow, that funeral, you’ll come, right?”

“Funeral… is it about the message Classmate Mujin sent me last night?”

“Yes, and it’s also like a favor I’m asking… I… don’t really like these occasions, I hope to have a friend accompany me. And also…”

Xia Mujin smiled gently, a smile that even made Lin Yueye pause when she saw it.

“Moreover, Yueye is the only person I’ve invited.”

“Is… is that so… that’s really an honor… to be repeatedly involved in Classmate Mujin’s family matters… your family won’t find me annoying, right?”

    “That’s impossible! I guarantee!”

“Hmm… then alright, I’m willing to go. But Classmate Mujin, can I make a small request?”

“Of course! If it’s Yueye, you could make ten requests and I’d agree to all of them!”

    Well then, I’ll say it.

Lin Yueye’s gaze slowly turned towards the confused Yuebing, who had already started practicing writing “π” in her notebook.

By the time Xia Mujin noticed this gaze and showed signs of uneasiness in her eyes, wanting to revise what she had just said.

Lin Yueye had already beaten her to it.

“Then can I bring Lebing along? Classmate Mujin said you hoped to have a friend accompany you, so having one more person… should give you more strength, right? Besides, I don’t feel good leaving her at home…”

    I knew it!

    “Please allow me to ref…!”

“Didn’t Classmate Mujin just say that even ten requests would all be agreed to… surely… you won’t go back on your word?”

    “!”

Look at those clear big eyes!

    Look at that enchanting voice!

    To this.

What else could Xia Mujin say?

    Just accept it.
