In the forbidden zone, where the blind man had always been invincible, he now encountered a significant challenge. Every attack he launched seemed to be anticipated by the veiled woman, putting him at a disadvantage. The Earthquake Bear and Sea Monk took the opportunity to join in the assault on the blind man.

Boom!

After dozens of exchanges, the blind man staggered. The veiled woman seized the moment, conjuring a green leaf that sliced toward him like a flying knife.

Rip!

The blind man’s topknot was cut, causing his hair to fall loose. The black cloth covering his eyes also tore, revealing a pair of gray-white eyes. At the same time, the veiled woman was struck by the blind man’s counterattack, causing her veil to fall to the ground.

“It’s you! How can it be you!” The blind man instantly recognized the veiled woman, his eyes filled with disbelief and deep pain.

Three months ago, a genius had emerged in Green Hills Mansion, named Su Yao. As time passed, Su Yao became increasingly brilliant, drawing the attention of many high-ranking officials in the Great Xia Empire.

The blind man was none other than Dongfang Xuan, the Grand Seer of the empire. He had seen immense potential in Su Yao and had intended to bring her under his wing. The idea of recruiting Su Yao to the Heaven and Earth Pavilion had been his.

He had deep connections with the Heaven and Earth Pavilion. The plan was for the Heaven and Earth Pavilion to recruit Su Yao, train her, and, once she matured, Dongfang Xuan would decide how best to utilize her. If she continued to shine, he might even consider grooming her as his successor.

But never had he imagined that the one he had marked as his successor would appear in the Misty Area, allied with a group of demons, and even join them in attacking him.

“Grand Seer Dongfang,” Su Yao said coldly, “I was born in the Misty Area. We were never meant to meet here. Now, one of us must die.”

“Good, good, good,” Dongfang Xuan laughed in anger. “If that’s the case, I’ll purge you, this traitor, on behalf of humanity and the Great Xia Empire.”

The next moment, his gray, seemingly blind eyes glowed with a dull light. A forbidden power began to emanate from them.

Buzz!

Dense gray patterns spread from his eyes, quickly covering the area around his eye sockets.

“Demonic power?” The lieutenants of the Misty Area were shocked. They could feel the intense demonic energy emanating from Dongfang Xuan’s eyes.

“Heaven and Earth’s Eye?” Su Yao was startled. “The empire found the Heaven and Earth’s Eye in an ancient cave. It was taken in by the Heaven and Earth Pavilion. I didn’t expect you to have fused with it.”

“Indeed,” Dongfang Xuan replied calmly. “With the Heaven and Earth’s Eye, I can create a doppelgänger. Can you defeat two of me?”

As he spoke, the gray light quickly condensed in the space his eyes focused on. In an instant, a second Dongfang Xuan appeared.

Su Yao’s expression darkened. “You accuse me of consorting with demons, yet you’ve merged a demonic eye with your body. Are you any better?”

“I’m not like you,” Dongfang Xuan retorted coldly. “I use the demonic eye as a tool. In my heart, demons are still my enemies. You, however, truly ally yourself with them.”

The two Dongfang Xuan figures moved simultaneously, a terrifying sight. The surrounding Misty Area lieutenants could no longer hold off Dongfang Xuan.

Suddenly, one of the Dongfang Xuans appeared before Su Yao.

Boom!

The Snow Spirit Mink was sent flying. Su Yao was left alone in front of this Dongfang Xuan.

“Who will save you now?” Dongfang Xuan asked coldly.

“Dongfang Xuan, my disciple’s life is not yours to take,” a calm voice rang out.

Dongfang Xuan paused. Su Yao’s body stiffened, and she slowly turned her head to see a familiar figure—a stunningly beautiful woman.

“Master…” Su Yao felt a rare pang of guilt. The woman was Xia Yuerong, the Great Elder of Green Hills Mansion. Unlike Dongfang Xuan, who viewed everything from a perspective of self-interest, Xia Yuerong genuinely cared for Su Yao, treating her like a daughter.

Dongfang Xuan only valued Su Yao for her potential, and if she ever lost that potential, he would discard her without hesitation. But Xia Yuerong had taken Su Yao in, nurturing her as a true disciple.

Hearing the voice, Xia Yuerong looked at Su Yao. Su Yao was stunned. The Xia Yuerong she saw now was completely different from the one she knew. The Xia Yuerong she knew was both a mentor and a friend, someone with whom she shared a natural rapport.

They had similar temperaments and interests and often spoke freely with each other. But now, Xia Yuerong’s eyes were indifferent, or rather, desolate and empty, as if she had long since lost all hope and lived in a deep abyss.

At the same time, Dongfang Xuan looked at Xia Yuerong with a complicated expression. “Junior sister,” he said slowly.

Su Yao’s eyes widened in shock. Did Dongfang Xuan just call Xia Yuerong his junior sister?

“Dongfang Xuan, I am no longer your junior sister,” Xia Yuerong replied. “You killed our master and our fellow disciples for the sake of your path. I only survived because you wanted someone to witness your ascension.”

Dongfang Xuan responded calmly, “Junior sister, it was their honor to sacrifice themselves for my path. It was your fortune to witness it.”

“And what is your path?” Xia Yuerong asked.

“My path?” Dongfang Xuan smiled faintly. “Every era of spiritual revival is a time for proving one’s path. In ancient times, the greatest sage was the Dao Lord of the Supreme Way. It is said that if Heaven had emotions, it would grow old. Heaven’s Way endures because it is unfeeling, and the Supreme Way is one of forgetting emotions and erasing desires, perfectly aligning with Heaven’s true nature. I am merely walking the same path as the Supreme Way. When I complete my path, it will be a time of great prosperity for humanity. That is more important than anyone or anything.”

His words sent chills through the Misty Area’s lieutenants. Xia Yuerong, however, remained unperturbed. “And what is my path?” she asked.

“Oh? What is your path?” Dongfang Xuan asked, puzzled.

“When you destroyed our sect, I lay in a pool of blood for three days and three nights,” Xia Yuerong replied. “I wanted my body to decay along with the blood, but I couldn’t accept it. I struggled to my feet, wandering the land like a walking corpse. I didn’t expect that, as the era of spiritual revival began, my strength would grow with each step. But even as my power increased, I remained lost, unsure of why I continued to live. It was exhausting, so I decided to settle in Qingzhou for a time. I didn’t expect that this choice would lead me to my path.”

Dongfang Xuan frowned. “You found your path in Qingzhou?”

“Not in Qingzhou, but in Yao’er,” Xia Yuerong said.

Dongfang Xuan seemed to grasp something. “She reminds you of your younger self.”

Xia Yuerong nodded. “Yes, in her, I saw my past self. Like her, I was once gifted, vibrant, and admired by my fellow disciples as a celestial being. But now, although I may appear radiant on the outside, my heart has long since rotted. Yet, seeing Yao’er, I knew how to revive our master and the others.”

Her eyes grew empty. “The past me is dead, yet not dead. I used Yao’er as a model to create a past version of myself in my heart, then severed it, allowing it to exist independently within my soul.”

“You severed your past self? You’ve gone mad,” Dongfang Xuan finally lost his composure.
