- Chapter 81 - The Blind Man with a Cane
The green-haired woman’s face turned cold. She hadn’t expected to be tricked by the gray-clad woman. Heaven and Human Induction was powerful, but it wasn’t omnipotent. She had sensed the gray-clad woman before because the latter had been secretly observing her. But now, the gray-clad woman had learned her lesson and was no longer watching her, making it impossible for the green-haired woman to sense her presence.
“Sister Shuling,” the White Spirit Python spoke, “this human is too cunning.”
“Hmph, leaving the Mist Zone won’t be so easy,” Huang Shuling snorted. However, before she could continue pursuing the gray-clad woman, she suddenly sensed something, and her pupils shrank.
Despite being a Golden Core stage cultivator, she suddenly felt a sense of danger. Instantly, she realized that a truly powerful human had entered the Misty Area.
At the boundary between the outer and inner regions of the Misty Area, a middle-aged man holding a cane and with a black cloth covering his eyes walked through the forest. He appeared to be blind. Unlike others, he didn’t need to follow the Sui River; he moved through the forest without losing his way.
A roar suddenly echoed. The blind man stopped in his tracks. In front of him appeared a massive brown bear.
“Are you the Earthquake Bear?” the blind man said, his head bowed, not looking ahead but still knowing what was there. “No, according to previous records from the Qingzhou Prefecture, you were only at the second-tier before. Now you’ve reached the third-tier.”
His expression grew serious. “It seems you’ve seized the opportunity from the recent surge of spiritual energy in the world.”
The Earthquake Bear’s eyes were filled with wariness. It found that it couldn’t see through this human blind man at all. The man seemed like an ordinary person, but that was obviously impossible.
An ordinary person could never reach this place. Unable to comprehend, the Earth Bear decided not to overthink it. The next moment, the bear roared and charged at the blind man.
The blind man’s expression remained calm. Despite his small size compared to the massive Earthquake Bear, he raised his hand and calmly pressed forward. An astonishing scene unfolded.
A white light emanated from the blind man’s palm, forming a giant hand that stopped the bear in its tracks. Before the bear could react, the white light hand grabbed its arm and slammed it into the ground with tremendous force.
Boom!
The ground shook violently. The bear’s massive body created a crater twenty feet in diameter. The blind man moved swiftly, suddenly closing the distance between himself and the bear.
“Tell me, what is hidden in this Misty Area?” the blind man demanded. “Why are so many great demons gathering here?”
The bear did not respond but instead roared in fury. The blind man shook his head.
Boom, boom, boom…
The Earth Bear was utterly overpowered. Their battle continued until they reached the edge of the Misty Lake. The surrounding beasts, alarmed by the fierce battle, quickly retreated.
Suddenly, the lake’s surface churned, and a terrifying water monster emerged. A giant water palm struck toward the blind man.
“Sea Monk,” the blind man’s face turned grim as he finally took the fight seriously, swinging his cane. The cane moved like an unparalleled sword, releasing a terrifying sword energy that instantly shattered the giant water palm.
The two great beasts teamed up to fight the blind man, but even together, they were no match for him.
“You two are not enough,” the blind man said. “Bring out the one you’re serving and have it fight me.”
Sea Monk didn’t reply but instead emitted a strange, resonant chant. The sound caused the blind man to stumble, his senses overwhelmed by the intense vibrations. His acute hearing, usually an advantage, was now a vulnerability. The chant of Sea Monk’s Prajna Chant caused significant damage.
“Hmph,” the blind man grunted, not panicking. He flicked his fingers against his cane, producing a resonant sword hum that countered the chant.
Not holding back anymore, the blind man swung his cane with full force. A blinding white light flashed, forming a massive sword of light in the air. The sword struck down, gravely wounding Sea Monk. The lake’s surface turned crimson with blood.
“Still not coming out? Then I’ll wipe out all your subordinate beasts,” the blind man declared coldly. Just as he finished speaking, he suddenly leaped back. Several massive shadows passed through the spot where he had stood, raising a fierce wind that pushed the blind man back several steps.
Sweeping his spiritual sense around, he saw that the attackers were a group of giant crows.
“Supreme grade second-tier Spirit crows,” the blind man muttered, his expression darkening. One of these crows wouldn’t be much of a problem, but when his spiritual sense scanned the area, he found that there were ten of them. This was no trivial matter.
The ten Spirit crows launched a frenzied assault on the blind man, their speed so great that only their blurred forms could be seen by the naked eye. Even the blind man couldn’t underestimate such an attack.
“Such speed,” the blind man noted. “It would be a waste to kill you all. I’ll capture you instead and add you to my people’s fleet of flying mounts.”
With that, his attacks grew even fiercer. Soon, the crows began to falter. At that moment, the air around him suddenly turned icy cold. The blind man felt as though he was about to be encased in ice. This wasn’t an illusion; ice and snow actually started to form on his body.
The blind man wasn’t easily caught off guard. He quickly circulated his spiritual energy, shattering the ice. As soon as the ice broke, a leaf shot through the air toward him.
The leaf wasn’t particularly powerful, but the blind man sensed a deep danger from it. It seemed as though the entity behind the leaf could peer into his thoughts, anticipate his actions, and thus launch a perfectly timed attack.
With a swift movement, the blind man twisted his body in mid-air, dodging several feet to the side. The leaf grazed past him, slicing off a strand of his hair. Only then did he have a chance to look at his attackers.
It was a woman and a beast—a woman with a green veil and a thirteen-foot-long snow mink. The mink exuded the aura of a third-tier beast, while the woman’s cultivation was at the peak of the Foundation Establishment stage. Their cultivation levels weren’t higher than those of the beasts he had just fought, yet the sense of danger they gave him was far greater. Even Sea Monk, at the middle of the third-tier, wasn’t as threatening as these two.
Moreover, the blind man felt a strange familiarity with the veiled woman, as if he should know her.
“Are you human?” the blind man asked coldly. “If so, why are you consorting with demons?”
“Those who trespass in the Misty Area’s core shall be killed without mercy!” the veiled woman replied icily.
The blind man frowned, the woman’s voice striking a familiar chord. But he had no time to dwell on it as the veiled woman and the Snow Spirit Mink launched another attack.
